When we moved to JAX & bought a house in '90, I was really "green",...now it's a bit deal...it only took me two years to kill our yard, because I wouldn't use chemicals, & I'm the mower...sand & weeds are not fun! Finally had tomatoes in our ornamentals, because they were in the compost! Don't say I didn't try!

$45 a night is sweet! When I called, they were still at $85 which includes the 10% price break for the reunion. Please keep us posted on the price since I haven't booked yet.

Remember with Priceline.. you have to take what they give you..so if the convenience of you or your spouse going upstairs when you are tired is important to you...go with the Marriott discount price. You may get the Hampton across street which wouldn't be bad.. or you could get the other two very close, but a long walk. It is up to you. Thanks for sharing Mary Jane... there are some great deals out there. The best deal is the 3 fun nights we are planning for $50 pp. I hope those who are still on the fence- decide to come to one or all the festivities for our 40th reunion.

We had a great reunion meeting on Thursday.Locals John Meehan, Dave Ellich, Jim Metcalf, Pam Cherry, Laurie Van Duesen, Russ Ruskay and Ron Doll, who drove from Orlando, met to make final plans for our wonderful weekend less than a month away. We have made a few changes.. The Sixty-Niners Beach Party will set up during the day.. feel free to stop by after 1 and visit Ron and Russ as the prepare to party down around 6. We came up with a list of food that people can bring to accompany the pizza.
Chicken wings - cheese plate- veggies & dip- chips & dip.
Beer, sodas, water will be available. Feel free to bring wine or your drink of choice.
Please let us know, if you have not already, if you are going to attend. Thanks

Friday night the cocktail/get together will be around the pool from 6-7. Doors will open for dinner at 7 and we will have a chance to visit and talk until 9- when the band..Nick-O-Rockwa and the Contraband (Nick Lioce) will play until 1. It should be a terrific night.

I don't want to sound like a broken record, but some people have not paid and this could cause us to miscount the number of people to provide food for.. so please send in your check or call/email if you want to make other arrangements..

Looking forward to a great reunion weekend !!!!!!

Hey Donna,

Would you please list what the attire is for the various events from the beach Party, Dinner Dance and Buzz? Thanks. Do I need to pack my thong?

05/12/09 03:21 PM #166

Donna Day (Bailey)

Thursday is beach/casual... There is not a/c at the Civic center so plan for ocean breeze temperature. If no breeze could be a bug or two. On Friday night we have mentioned casual.. Anything that you would like to wear will be fine. The same goes for Saturday's Buzz. There is not a theme and nothing dressy for any of the weekend parties.
Unless you want to wear a thong or toga..It would make for interesting conversation.. I am leaning towards a moo moo... ha

Hey Chip & Donna!

I just don't know why, and it is really, really hard to understand, but that thong thing for the Sixty Niner Beach Party Chip started has caught on like wildfire!

Metcalf, Ellrich, Rhine, Meehan, McLaughlin, Wilson, Lott, Robinson, Carter, & Cox all called me yesterday morning as soon as you posted your thong thing, Chip. And get this, they all want to wear thongs, too!

Word must have spread cause by lunch time Rimi, Barnhart, Mueller, Bubba, Engel, Delosh, Donahue, & Ruskay all wanted in and believe it or not, they already own thongs!

Oh, it gets better, by 5:00 Juan Cunningham calls me & wants to wear his as well as Teater, Cromwell, & MJ Anderson. Anderson tells me Hunter has offered to make everyone custom thongs in either white, green, or gold with a hornet on the front & 69 on the back! How COOL will that be?

And bless her heart, Pam Cherry has kindly offered to instruct the guys how to properly wear their thongs by modeling her collection for them! I'm thinking the guys are hoping more girls will wear their thongs & this is their way to try & make that happen!

Even better, rumor has it that you, Donna, and your sidekick Donna Samples already have original matching one piece Joslin Thong-kinis ready to go for Thursday night?

Any way, I am so stoaked that I got involved in this beach party cause there's something new happening every day! I'll keep you posted on the thong count, Chip!

For everyone who has not, please make plans to be at the Sixty Niner Beach Party Thursday, as it will offer us all more time to renew our friendships. And, it may well be another night that will be hard to forget!

I learned today classmate Larry Mueller & wife Jeanette, are at Shands Hospital in Gainesville where she is recovering from a life threatening illness of which she was almost taken from us last week.

Larry's phone is 772-485-2513. I called & left a message & I'm sure it will help if some of us called and let him know we are behind him.

We started together and we need to stay together.

I left a message for Larry...we all need to know that when we picture each other & remember, we do need to stick together...same goes for Pam Hunt, with her husband very ill...only I don't have a phone number, & after all this time, I'm really not intrusive, unless I'm on here, & then I get carried away!

I have some thoughts about this thong thing..this sounds like a 90% Monty, which I'm still trying to get a handle on, but I haven't decided if I want to see it mentally or physically....but, I do remember visiting my brother at the U of Penn, when he played Rugby & I went to an after-game party (which females weren't usually invited to) & seeing the "elephant walk"---are y'all willing to do that? Will you put together a show for us? (Like Drew Carey & the guys with the boxes?) I'm quivering with anticipation & excitement! Don't disappoint us Ron & the rest of you! Don't be all talk & no goods delivered!

Jack Rhine

Larry called me last night and they have been at Shands for two weeks. They plan to take Jeanette home to Stuart today. He has stayed with her the entire time at the hospital and is extremely tired and weary. He is sincerely grateful for all the calls and cards and wanted to apologize to everyone for not being able to respond to all of us right away. He will be sending out information to all of us and if you would like to email larry and be on his list to receive updated information write to him at larrym9@comcast.net. His message to me and to everyone was that this has been a life altering event and we should cherish everyday as we do not know when something may happen to anyone of us. Yesterday is gone, tomorrow is in the future, so make today the very best we can. Thanks Ron for your message to everyone.

Couple of things. Thanks Mary Jane for filling all of us in an the Priceline stuff. I didn't want to risk staying across the street so I called the Marriott and asked them what they could do for me and they took $10 off the $89 price. You should all try this in this wonderful economy. Also, what time is the Hornet Buzz Saturday night? I'd like to have brunch with some relatives and don't want to miss any of the fun.

And another thing.... I'm wondering about the fear many have in posting their 1969 "then" pictures and the "today" pictures. A lot of us have taken that deep breath and done it, but what about the others???? I'm curious why the warriors of our class from Ron Doll, Jack Rhine, John Meehan, and others haven't had the b--, I mean courage, to take the plunge. A lot of talk about thongs, but I'm not seeing a lot of cohones on this site. Maybe the thongs will help.

Hey Ann! Good to hear from you! Can't wait to see ya, it's been a while! You may not recognize me as I got a bunch of Mike Tyson tat's..... all over!

On a serious side, Alan Rhine's (Jack's son) girlfriend of several years died in a car crash this past Friday night. He's pretty shaken as are Penny & Jack as they knew Gina real well. Jack's # is 863-214-6577.

Well,... we are in this together and we must continue to take the sorrow along with the happiness!

Nice Meehan, how am I supposed to take that "head" nurse thing?? Whatever, some things never change! And Ron can't wait to see the tatoos, hopefully you had them put on places that are still fun to look at! And Donna, there is no damn "e" on the end of my name! How many years have you known me!! Has anyone heard from Franny Willis
? I will never forget her throwing a Coke machine down the stairwell at UofF. By the way Meeham, oh ne
ver mind..Donna Samples you are still a lady! Looking forward to seeing you all!! Take care.

At least John didn't accuse me of being "cocky". It would help, though, if all of us made an effort to post then and now pix, especially the now ones. I barely recognize myself anymore.

Horrible news about Jack's son's girlfriend. Sudden deaths are the most difficult to handle. Jack, you and your family is in my prayers. Thanks again for the wonderful call you gave me when my dad died a couple of weeks ago.

05/19/09 11:23 AM #182

Donna Samples (Pintsak)

I'm so sorry to hear about Alan Rhine's loss. When it comes to our children and our friends, their joys are our joys and their losses are our losses. Let's all send out a thought or prayer to the Rhine family.

On a lighter note it is great to see the banter and camaraderie going on this web site. When the talk about thongs started I was going to change my flight to Alaska instead of Florida. The thought of our almost 60 year old bodies in thongs is truly frightening! I know there are some who could pull it off but not my lazy ass! However; I am so excited about seeing so many old friends that I've kept my reservations for Florida. We are going to have a great time and I want to thank everyone who worked so hard putting this reunion together. My special thanks to Donna Day and Jack Rhine for making me feel involved and needed.
I'm headed to Fla. this Sunday and can't wait to see you all!!!!

Hi everyone!
Donna,
I wanted to say what you said, but more like "I hope there are no children around to run screaming to their parents!" However, I didn't want to discourage the "boys"! Keep on going you guys!
We're leaving in 2 days to LAX to pick up Roger & Glenys (Steven's dad & wife), then making our way to RBHS69!
Can't wait! Hope we survive this road trip! See ya!

Donna,

Bless your pea-pickin', chicken pluckin' heart. You are so on-point about Alan Rhine's loss. We truly share each others' losses; but we also share the triumphs (Jack Rhine-Palm Beach County Athlete Hall of Fame). Bless this class for coming together. John Meehan tries to strike the good ol' boy pose, but he is truly changing lives by being there for folks who need a helping hand in this wonderful economy. Sherrie Lefkowitz and Jack Cox are doing the same in the courts. In the late 60's and early 70's our goal was to change the world. Many of this class have done their part to make this a better place. I can't wait to see all of you.

Patti,
I wondered if you all were going to make it a road trip in the RV. Sounds like fun. I was just up at LAX on Monday,
keep in mind we have been rocking and rolling from a series of moderate earthquakes and aftershocks. Seems like a good time to get out of town. Hope you have a safe trip!
