David Lynn "Dave" Jirout, 69, of Roanoke, Virginia, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2026, in the city where he was born and raised. Born on April 18, 1957, to the late Gretchen A. Jirout and Robert A. Jirout, Dave spent his life bringing joy and laughter to those around him.
Dave is survived by his loving wife, Eva Jirout; his children, Matthew, Michelle, John (Valerie), Mark, and Michael Jirout; and his brother, Michael Jirout (Missy). He also leaves behind extended family members and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Known for his sharp wit and a seemingly endless repertoire of "dad" jokes, Dave had a remarkable ability to bring smiles to everyone he encountered. His sense of humor was matched only by his passion for hockey-a sport that played a central role in his life. Dave proudly served as an official with the Roanoke Railyard Dawgs, a position he held with great enthusiasm and pride. His dedication to the sport extended beyond the rink as he supported youth hockey in the community.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family, who will direct donations to support the Valley Youth Hockey Association-a cause close to Dave's heart. Your support can help provide essential resources and create a safe space for young athletes to thrive. Please consider donating or sharing this message to honor David’s legacy.
