I'm saddened to hear about Randy today. Although Randy and I went our separate ways after Cave Spring days, he was a ton of fun to be around. I recall many Friday and Saturday evenings driving around in his Rambler (or something like that) doing what we did back in those days - Randy always preferred Molsen. His car was the first place I heard Bowie's Ziggy Stardust album, on cassette of course, the latest technology. I recall that Barksdale often called him 'Meh-toes' which mildly irritated Randy - and inspiration to Robert to continue, of course. I've often wondered how his life turned out. He was a good guy.
Randy made my High School years a lot of fun .I can still see the twinkle in his blue eyes when he was being mischievious . He was brave ---he taught me how to drive a car on the Blue Ridge Parkway and grabbed the wheel when things started going amiss ..... I am saddened to hear of his health struggles and wish peace for his remaining loved ones . More and more I am aware that we need to take time to reach out to old friends before the opportunity is gone .
I also have fond memories of hanging out with Randy. Always calm and easy to get along with, never had a bad thing to say about anyone. I can't even remember him raising his voice. Always a smile on his face. And that twinkle in his eyes that Wanda Kay referred to was spot on. After college we got together in Colorado a few times and discussed how we might use our geology degrees to work together. Randy had big plans for doing oil and gas and mineral exploration with a new concept he had come up with. We lost touch at some point. I will always remember Randy as a kind and gentle soul.
Robert Barksdale and Randy were like the Bobbsey Twins with their same height and build . Randy and Robert would come into the Winn Dixie on Friday nights thinking they could pass as Adults and buy Beer . Randy would see me working and just shrug his shoulders and turn around ! He knew that my Dad was the WD Supervisor so I had to stick to the rules and card everyone ! We had a lot of fun at CSHS . It was a gentle crew just out to have fun

I will always remember Randy as the gent who introduced me to the AT. For that, I will be forever grateful. He was a good guy. . .
