Patrick Skeen

Carl Patrick Skeen of Roanoke left us suddenly on Monday, December 12, 2022, succumbing to injuries from a stairway fall. He passed peacefully without regaining consciousness.

Born April 16, 1957, to Lois Avery Skeen and Clyde Edward Skeen, Pat was preceded in death by his parents.

Pat will be remembered for his good nature and ever present, contagious smile. He had a big heart, an insatiable appetite for making friends, socializing and enjoying life.

He will mostly be remembered for his love of family, friends and his selfless dedication.  Pat lived these values every day, highlighted by his commitment and long-term concern for Andria Mathenea and his Father. Pat was the primary care giver during his Father’s final years.

Pat loved Dogs, especially his beloved Phil. He volunteered at the Roanoke Valley SPCA and his favorite hat was embroidered with “Hold my drink, I gotta pet this dog.”

Pat remains in the hearts and memories of his siblings and extended family including  Bill Skeen; Cathy and Mike Horn; Susan, Matt and Amanda Dillon and Jay; Sommer, Nate and Sawyer Bryant; Thomas, Carrie, Taylor, and Braxton Horn; Samantha, Jarrett, Finn and Archer Wilkinson; Joey, Sam, Hunter and Izzie Skeen; Jonathan and Jordan Skeen; and Ben, Sarah, Lilly and Andrew Skeen.

He will be missed by his extended family:  Cindy and Ron Gabor; Lauren Gabor, Derek and  Emersyn Baxley; Morgan, Brad, Carter and Camden Bowers; Sandy, Dusty and Rickey Harrell; Laura Harman; Michael Dale, Christopher, Sharon, Allie and Aaron Avery; Jeanette, Stephanie and Michelle Seay; and Linda Hodges.

Special Friends included Cara and Richard Perdue, Karen and Mike Pittman, Beth and Kenny Mullins, Beth and Mark Farris and a host of Cave Spring High School alumni.

Pat had many interests and accomplishments. In his formative years he swam, fished, camped, and hiked as a Boy Scout and attained the rank of Life Scout at Windsor Hills Baptist Church, Troop 218. He was an accomplished tennis player, playing on the tennis team at Cave Spring High School where he lettered in his first year. While living in Atlanta, Georgia, Pat played competitive tennis for many years in the Volvo Leagues.

Pat was retired from Phillip Morris where he worked as a Sales Representative and from Allied Universal Security Services.

Many friends have commented:

“You always had a good time when Pat was around.  Pat had a big heart, was a great guy and a good friend.”  “He was one of my all-time favorites.  Pat had a gentle spirit, always smiling and had awareness far beyond our comprehension.  Pat made an impact on so many lives.  He had an infectious smile which made making friends his second nature.  He will be missed by his friends at the Roanoke Elks Lodge.”

The family wishes to thank everyone for their thoughts, encouragement and prayers, and the Roanoke Memorial Hospital doctors, nurses and professionals who tended to Pat’s needs as a result of his sudden accident.

The family will receive friends and visitors from 6 to 9pm on Friday, December 16, 2022 at Oakey’s South Chapel.  A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, December 17, 2022 also at Oakey’s South Chapel, with internment to follow at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem. Condolences can be made at Oakeys.com

The funeral service will be informal and we are hoping that many of his friends will attend and share a story or memory of Pat during the service. His funeral service will be live streamed and can be viewed at Oakeys.com
