Trina its the wrong day to ask......she is wearing black polka dot top, black pants, black polka dot headband, black shoes, black socks with the matching pink heart that match the top..............its an illness! this kid does not stand a chance see why I only had one...........

Anders is in the house wonder if he will go back and review how many times he has been referenced too........talk about some math adding up......:)

He's a ghost reader...but he's reading...I have messaged him to plead his understanding that I am not stalking him. I could see him smiling on the other end of the computer when he replied that it was okay...whew!!

Hello to all!
I was unable to attend the reunion and was really sad about that so i think i will try to make it to the Homecoming game. Sounds like a lot of fun! I would be interested in hooking up with you guys on Saturday as well. See you then!

Trina Schossow (Folden)

Kristin - welcome to the forum!! This is a great source of fun, friendship, and therapy. The Homecoming Game will be great, and can't wait to see you there!

Damn! (sorry Faye) Trina beat me to Jolee's answer! I was so excited to see a math problem I could solve! I agree that part of the problem is that they keep changing the way they teach stuff. Sometimes Mason will get the right answer, but I have no idea how! Parents can't help if they are confused. Susie...I wish you lived here so you could tutor Mason!
Whoever mentioned the lack of enough specials in school hit the nail on the head! For four years I worked at our school teaching art to K-2 because the county refused to pay a techer to do this. The PTA paid me a little...but it was mostly volunteer. Stuff like that is so good for young kids. SOLs are putting a big dent in that stuff.

Kristin~
I was looking at your profile and I see you are a Supervisor at a Mental Health Unit...now, do you mean you are a stay-at-home mom or are you REALLY out there...it just seemed to correllate with what I would call myself if I stayed at home with small children....

:)~

LOL! Too funny, no i am really out there working in the real world. Interesting work to say the least.

Kristin you are at the right place because speaking for myself I need as much mental help as I can get...........maybe between you and Ken (not Kenny Haines he goes by Ken now.........I still see a cute little Kenny when I look at his profile) can tackle my issues......OCD, color coordination that is the mental help I probably need the most with right now...........

Hey you all- I am like others and not going to even try to play catch up- I did see one thing though- and I have to say, as a teacher, and a Special Education one at that-No Child Left Behind is ridiculous. The principle behind is was wonderful, but the actuality of the situation is terrible. Oh and don't forget about our special needs kids. They have to be tested too. Not on the SOL's but on the VAAPs- which is like that, just for special needs students. I have a child that can not remember what you just asked him to do when he's 6 steps away from you, and I have to find a way to test him on Social Studies. Now try that one. Oh, and the brilliance of this is that once you test on a particular item or skill, you can't do it again the following year- EVEN WITH CHILDREN THAT ARE BEHIND AND WILL NEVER BE CAUGHT UP- complete lunacy!!!!!!!

I teach self-contained Trainabley Mentally Disabled children. They are in my room all day long. I do not have enough help, 4 out of the six really need one on one attention, and its me and two assistants. I am potty training 3 of them- and the youngest is going to be 6 next week. I meet these little ones at their bus at 7:20 AM and have them until they leave on their buses at 2:45 PM- I eat lunch with them and since our bathroom is in our room- usually pee with one of them banging on the door- which is just like life at my house.

All this means is that we don't always agree with what we have to do, but its the way it is. Even though we see this ridiculous stuff- be glad that we can criticize our government. No one is going to come put us in jail for it, or kill us because we won't do exactly what they say. In some countries, I wouldn't have to teach Special Ed, because when there is a child with those needs, they just kill them and are done with it.

I do have to say, our precious cafeteria manager would never let a child go hungry- that makes me sad.

Susie- you go girl- and yes, I know what its like and I do it with 4 of my own- I generally sleep between 2 and 3 AM- that's about it- LOL- Hugs and Blessings everyone!!!!!!!

Vicky Lakes (Fuller)

Michelle - all I can say is WOO HOO...you go girl. You hit the nail on the head with that one.

Faye, I just read the post about the no money for lunch...my mom worked in the office at Middlesex High School where most of the kids were poorer than dirt...most did not have lunch money, the ones that did it was usually because they had a job of their own...my mom was fortunate enough to get to know some of these kids, and more often than not paid for their lunches, especially the ones she knew had nothing, nor parents that cared. They didn't always know how money appeared on their accounts, but it may have been the only meal they had that day. It's a real shame when you have to turn kids aways because their parents can't afford to feed them, or are too lazy to make sure they have lunch money...I'm sure it goes both ways. I have to admit, that here in our school district a kid gets lunch whether he has money in his account or not, it may only be the basic one, but it's a meal none the less. Some things out there are far worse than worrying about test scores.

oh, and by the way, I got a email from Anders that he plans to attend the Game. So Anders, you better show up...or you may get stalked...lol.

Trina Schossow (Folden)

Hey Vick...if Anders is coming, do you think we'll get a chance to see you girls in their rickshaw?? (-:

09/18/08 07:38 PM #253

Kelly Houston

I have given up on the rickshaw. I think we scared the hell out of Erik. I'm sorry, Erik. Maybe at our 60th reunion we can do rickshaw rides. I probably won't be able to walk by then anyway.

Well, lunching ladies. I may be able to join you now and then in the near future. I gave 4 weeks notice today...so Low Moor is soon to be no more. I'll be doing home health and will have a fabulously flexible schedule so LET'S EAT!

09/18/08 08:04 PM #254

Trina Schossow (Folden)

Congrat Kelly! I know you were having a tough time deciding that one. Good for you! We'd love to have you for lunch, we will keep you posted on date/places/times!
Again, Congrats!!

Jolee Clarke (Preston)

Vicky ~ You'd better back off....lol

Diane ~ Tell Amy I am excited we get to play with she and Brian tomorrow evening! Yayyyy! Fun friends!

To all~ Did anyone see that there are 55 of us registered to come to dinner and the game....and that doesn't even count families! Ummmm....does anyone besides me think that we should call El Toreo and make sure they can handle such massive Vikingness?!?! I am hoping to do dinner around 6'ish...everyone just order as they come in...and then plan a meeting place around 7:30pm for Mike's memorial service. I'm trying to work in the tour in there...but bear with me...nothing will really be concrete until the week before.

And THANK YOU to all of you who have sent money for Mike's funeral spray. I do have extra money and plan to help cover the scrap book costs for the kids. But thanks to all who wrote notes, thanked me for doing what I am put on this earth to do, take care of others. Although I am always exhausted, it keeps me focused....and karma...I truly believe what goes around comes around and pay it forward....

Talk to you all soon!! REAL soon!

(hi anders...thanks for the message...I bet all the other girls would like to know what you wrote...let's just keep it between us....if Kelly starts sending you messages...just delete them...or else next thing you know, she'll be walking with crutches, she'll have gauze pads all over her face, or have clumps of hair missing....I don't think I could take that....)

Faye..im glad to read your response...about the cafeteria..as a teacher..i buy lunch for kids everyday.

It's sad and here in texas if kids don't have money they get a sack lunch or breakfast if a teacher isn't there. Our cafeteria ladies learn who the kids are that usually never have money and "let" them go with food. Some of our kids do not even have running water at home. So testing is not just one of the things we deal with.

I love teaching and am so glad I made the decision to change careers. I will never do anything different. We don't make the money we should and probably never will but all the money in the world would never make me do anything different.

Michelle...I love special education and help these kids tremoundously when they are in my class but what you do every day...it's a blessing..you guys are right up their with our soldiers and deserve medals of honor in my opinion.

Vicky Lakes (Fuller)

Great, here I was all ready to come in and ride in the rickshaw..dang.

Whoever gets to do the crablegs tomorrow with Jolee, have some for me and Carla...I've thought about that all day. The closest thing I have to seafood around here is the McDonalds filet o fish. I'd have to be extremely hungry to resort to that meal.

Kristen, missed you at the reunion, hope you will come to the game. You need to post some pictures. I think this year must have been the year for our class to have babies...seems there were alot of them born in 2008.

Faye, I still crack up reading about your princess being dressed to match down to the socks. I did that with my first also...but by the 4th well we are lucky to have matching socks most days..and she pretty much picks out what she wants to wear...oh well as long as it's clean.

Diane - I know exactly what you mean about your little guy and the bedtime stories...I miss that so much..Zach's was the Harold and the purple crayon book..he's still my cuddle bug.

Trina - we welcome all to our seating section, no matter what level of math you can pass :)

Jolee, yes, I think it's awesome that so many have signed up to come...and no I don't think the Mexican joint will be prepared to deal with all of us...we may just have to take over the entire place for dinner.

Question, do you need CD or Sweatshirt money now, or do we pay when we get them? I can send it or bring it?

09/18/08 10:37 PM #258

Carla Boyd (McCabe)

Kristin FR...Okay, maybe you actually leave the house for your job...I don't(other than the taxi service I run), but I love the title! That is officially my new title! Carla McCabe - Supervisor at a mental health faciity! I hope they pay you better! Okay...all jokes aside...if Mason sees me getting stressed, he comes up and puts his arms around me and says "Mommy, you just need a hug". Actually, I think I get paid pretty well! That might not remove the stress, but it sure does put it in perspective!

09/18/08 10:56 PM #259

Carla Boyd (McCabe)

Jolee...Ummm...yeah, if we have that many coming you better call ahead. Is the class of 87 talking about coming to that? The restaurant may not hold that many! See what they say. We may have to bring food and crash the parking lot!
I am planning to talk to the shirt guy Friday and see the final design with the words added. When they are done, I can just pay for them and then people can bring me either a check or money in an envelope with their name on it so I can keep up with it all. I'm very "organized" you know! Whatever way you want...but I don't mind to do that. I'll get with you as soon as I have seen it and we are ready to order!
Girls...prepare yourselves...Dick Miley usually attends
football games...and anything else where he can be creepy! If he offers me a lick of a lollipop someone may have to remove my foot from his face...my kids take karate and I have picked up a few things myself!

09/18/08 11:10 PM #260

Melissa Weaver (Lynskey)

Jolee...I didn't get a chance to talk to Michelle yet about the folks from the class of 87 but I do think they are planning pretty much the same thing as we are for dinner before the game. I promise to find out who the contact is for that class so we can have a count for the dinner...that is a lot of people so far. I also talked to David Milliron (well...emailed him)...he lives in Richmond and said he would like to come to the game as well...I forwarded the link to the site for him to get him to put a profile but I do not see anything out there yet. I also emailed Cammie Darnall and I think she may be coming to the game as well. I need to find out if she signed up for a hoodie...I will email her. Trying to get Tammy Webb (Chittum) to come to the game as well...

Faye...you are really scaring me with the matching outfits for your daughter! :-) I am glad to hear that she was wearing the correct hairbow today! I have a daughter and never did that with her but what I did do when she was a little girl...I would dress her up and take pictures of her...I did this from the time she was really young till she was probably 5 or 6 years old. That is what happens with your first child...but poor Cody has very few pictures. But if you ask my daughter, she will tell you in a heart beat that Cody is my favorite!

Diane...hope to see you this weekend!

Hey girls..I have a call into Mr. DONNIE DYER...Hopefully he will be able to make it too.

Also...he's thinking about the cheerleading picture..Amy..he thinks he remembers but he said Im older let me think and Susie I will get back to you on that one...he has the stories He remembers stuff that will blow your mind...He was very sad to hear about Mike and wanted me to send His love to us all. I am talking to him this weekend either saturday night or sunday so I can take notes..Im getting some dirt on us all! :)

Annette Gilliam (Nicely)

Thank you Jolee and Carla for all your hard work! Love ya!
Have a great day everyone. I'm headed to the Homestead this morning for a day and night of pampering. Can't wait!

Vicky Lakes (Fuller)

Melissa W - Yes, I too have the albums of pictures from the first child...second one not so many, 3rd one is on cd's and the 4th, well...she's loved even if it's not recorded anywhere. And I hear all the time how Zach is the favorite. Some days he probably is.

Annette, have fun today...some of us have to attend a college application breakfast at the HS, and then off to work..ugh.

Carla, can't wait to see the artwork. I'm sure it's awesome.

Jolee - enjoy dinner tonite.

Faye - dress the princess everyday, take lots of pictures..before you know it she'll be grown and out the door. I still can't believe we are doing college applications...what happened to my little girl that sported the matching Osh Kosh outfits and hair bows?

I agree with Carla, we may need to check on the occupancy maximum..we may need to do a tailgate party in the parking lot....but think how great it is that we can pull this many people together for an event. We Rock.

09/19/08 08:52 AM #264

Lara Payne (Walker)

I think the tailgate party sounds like a great idea. I know the class of '83 is tailgating at 5:30 in the parking lot – they’re providing drinks and snacks to the classes of '81 – '85. Sounds like there will be a good turnout!

Unfortunately, I don’t know if we’re going to be able to make it this time. I eventually hope to show up for *something*.

Hello everyone! A couple of comments from reading some of the posts hear.

First, my wife graduated from Northside several years after we did (no we didn't date when we were in school, the age thing would have been creepy then) and she said to tell you all that Mr Miley was a sicko when she was in school too. She remembers the loli pop deal. He is a classic example of someone we should never let around children.

Faye - The lunch story breaks my heart. I can't imagine a little child going through the line all excited about breakfast/lunch and being told they don't have the money for it. I know times are tough but I get angry when people don't even try to take care of their kids. I would work 10 jobs if I had to so my child could eat.

Jolee - Maybe with that many people coming to the game we should do a BYOF tailgate party. They did just open a new Bo Jangles on Peters Creek! Sweet Tea and Chicken, YUM!
