Carla -- I know that a friend of mine who taught advanced grammar to 2nd graders did her tests that way. I don't know what the purpose is, but she even got confused as to which group and which spelling word she was on. I can ask her what is the purpose of giving a test this way. But, I agree, if the teacher gets confused, then why shouldn't the student get confused as well. I also know from working in a school system, that if one child had to have specialized treatment during a test, then that student would work on reading, etc.. during the test and then the student would take the test during break, etc.. so that the student is not singled out. I would stay on the teacher, but if you do not see much progress, then I would contact the school. I wouldn't do it in a complaining manner, I would just let them know of your concerns. :)
