Jolee Clarke (Preston)

Hope to see you all this Friday at lunch. I guess we need to pick a time...12:00 good? Erik, you coming? Steve Jones is and Marvin Brown is...me and Carla...

As for Oct. 10th, I am game for tailgaiting...and then whatever afterwards. The last place we went to on that night burned down...let's see who we can light up this time!I will send an email out to the class to let everyone know about Homecoming.

Everyone keep the Goode's in your thoughts and prayers. September 8th will be a year since we lost Mike.

Jolee-lunch tomorrow at 12 sounds good...count me in.

To clarify, the football game is Friday, Oct 9th. If we wait until Saturday the 10th to tailgate, we'll be doing so before the dance. But hey, we might start a new trend, right?! I'm down with whatever...just thought I'd put the idea out there.

Vicky-we'll make sure you get home earlier this time...like maybe 2 am!

I knew you would look out for me Erik :)

Well I will be traveling back from Boone NC Friday night, so I can't make the game...bummer. But hey if everyone still wants to do a tailgate we can go to Carvins Cove (if it still exists)...re-live some memories...or not...LOL :p

Vicky --- unless things have changed in the past year, you now have to pay to enter Carvins Cove. Just thought that I would put that out there!

I hope that everyone is doing great. Have a FABULOUS weekend and please be safe.

I was really hoping that we could all get together to remember Mike on his 1st year anniversary. Since it is on Tuesday (I think) then that is going to be difficult -- especially for us out-of-towners. Anyone have any recommendations for how we can remember him together as a group? (BTW, a friend of the family bought his house and had nothing but positive words for the previous owner!)

Vicky:
I haven't been on the site in awhile and I just saw your post about App. My neighbors' girls go there and play softball. Teri is a 5th year senior (because of softball) and Kristen is a junior (I don't think she is playing at App). Both girls babysat my boys until they went to college. They love it at App. I have never been there but based on their mother's and my discussions, it sounds a lot like VT but in NC. Mountains, small town, cold in winter, but absolutely beautiful. I am sure that the girls would not mind talking with your daughter if she would like to talk with them. Just let me know on Facebook as I don't get out here that often.
Happy Labor Day!

Hey guys-
I am making plans to come to homecoming this year. Brnadon has now transferred to Raleigh (no more beach) and has weekends off so he will be able to keep the children. It takes about four hours for the drive. I'll take a half day off work, so I woild be up there at a decent hour. Just let me know where to meet everyone when you make the final plans.

The class of '87 is planning on tailgating before the football game on Friday night. We can do that for anyone who wants to. Since Vicky can't come to that and she is coming in too, why don't we go out on Saturday night, even if it's just to eat like at Martin's or something? Just ideas....

Mom's surgery is scheduled for Saturday. Unless that changes, I am completely out of commission.

Chris Akers

Jolee - sorry to hear your Mom is having surgery. We'll be thinking about you. Eric isn't the only one not on Facebook, so some of us just aren't in the loop. :(

As far as Saturday goes, it's looking like my Dad is also going to be in from Cali, so we'll probably be doing a family thing.

Thanks Chris. This has been beyond bearable. Mom's tongue cancer is back. It is in her lower jaw bone as well as the surrounding gum. They are going to take out a big piece of her lower jaw and then use grafts from her back or butt to rebuild the jaw. They will also either use a prosthesis or a bone graft for the jaw. Either way, she will come out of surgery in horrific pain, which she is already in, and with a trach to breathe through. She has a long road to recovery and it is just devastating news to once again hear the Big "C." I will have to split my duties between JCHS teaching and clinicals with my parents Mechanical Contracting company. I am the only one who knows how to do payroll, billing, AFLAC, workmans comp, child support, all that since I worked there before heading back to nursing school. Any connections with the Man Upstairs would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry I don't live closer Jolee so I could help with the family business. That's right up my alley. Keeping you and your mom in our prayers.

Jolee Clarke (Preston)

Just want to thank everybody for all of the texts, phone calls, messages, and words of support while my mom is going through this horrific ordeal. Being the life-long smoker that she is and me being an oncology nurse my thoughts all along would be that she would be plagued with lung cancer and pass away as many do from that diagnosis within 6 months. When the diagnosis of tongue cancer came to be, it really floored me. There are no labs that can be drawn to measure its severity, like other cancers. Some say it is "curable" others say deadly. But either way, it is usually a long, drawn out process riddled with excruciating pain. And that is where we are now. After meeting with Dr. Barton Thomas, he postponed her surgery for three weeks (Oct. 9th or Homecoming night...of course), and demanded she quit smoking or he will not do the surgery at all. It is a 9-12 hour MAJOR surgery with a microscope involved to repair her blood vessels. She is tough...no doubt.

To Faye, Kelly HB, Vicky, Kristen W. Bray, Beth Stewart, Amy Foster, Ann Stewart, "The good twin" Erik, Carla, my girls Trina(Folden and Clark), Preeti, Paige, and so many others I can't even think of right now...I so appreciate you.
