ROCK HILL - Mr. Charles Henry Elkins, 66, of Rock Hill, S.C., died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at his home.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, at St. John's United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Debra Quilling Smith and Rhett Haselden officiating. Visitation will follow the service in the St. John's Center.
A native of Rock Hill, S.C., Mr. Elkins was the son of the late Robert Cooper and Lucy Lineberger Elkins. He was a graduate of Appalachian State University and retired from Waste Management International & Domestic which took him all over the world. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, a member of the Hejaz Shrine Club, Masonic Lodge 111 and VFW Post # 2889. Mr. Elkins loved playing golf and building and riding Harley Davidson motorcycles. He enjoyed the fellowship and friendships he made during that time. His favorite pastime was spending time with his three grandchildren whom he loved dearly.
Mr. Elkins is survived by his wife, Rebecca Sutton Elkins of the home; his son, Charles Hamilton Elkins and his wife, Beth; and his daughter, Sarah Nicole Elkins, all of Rock Hill; his brothers, Bobby Elkins and wife, Mary of Moncks Corner, S.C.; Miles Elkins and his wife, Pat of Aiken, S.C.; Johnny Elkins of Rock Hill, S.C.; and Tommy Elkins and wife, Susie of Weddington, N.C.; three grandchildren, Wells Henry Elkins, Sarah Kate Elkins and Charles Graham Elkins of Rock Hill; and many nieces and nephews whom he loved like his own.
Memorials may be made in Mr. Elkins' name to St. John's United Methodist Church Building Fund, 321 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Charles Munn
I met Charles our first day of school, first grade. He was one of the first friends I had at Central. We were in the same classes first through eigth grade. He was one of the best people you ever wanted to meet.
In high school we played sports together. Again, one of the best team mates ever. He would do anything for you. You don't meet many like that. I will always cherish my memories of him.

Ernie Nivens
I was the Bearcat football Head manager for four years when Charlie was a stand -out player. I can close my eyes and see bow-legged Charlie leaving the defenders in his dust! He always thanked me for taping his ankles and knees, giving him a drink of water, popping an AM-Cap (ammonia cap) to bolt him back to attention. When Charlie was around, there was always laughter. His Memorial Service was a "Party" and a real celebraton of his joyful life. I am saddened just knowing that he has gone on. No worries, by faith we shall see him again.

I too remember Charlie from 1st. grade at Central. He was a good friendly kid then and throughout our High School Days. He was a good athlete in all sports from Grammer School thru High School. It's sad to move away from a city as Rock Hill (34 yrs.) and not see all my old friends on a regular basis. God be with your family. I'm sure your were a great Dad/Grandpa to your kids and grandkids and a good husband to Becky. Time passes to fast not to take a moment and thank God for what we had and have.
