Tell us about your grandchildren (if you have any!)

None yet, thank God. (First things first- like marriage)

Comments:

At the prompting of a friend in your class (well, actually an ex-friend) Scott Harms, I’m posting a profile on the website. I’m not actually in your class (I’m class of ’68), but as my wife (Ann Abbott) my sister (Julie) as well as many friends are, I’d like to think I’m pretty close.

I’m in town (still) and have been married to Ann for 27 years now. We have a daughter, Whitney, that is about to enter nursing school at Samuel Merritt in the City, and a son, Ryan, who is loving life at Cal Poly SLO. Ann works in the molecular laboratory at Stanford, and enjoys master swimming, biking and salsa dancing.

I am a Realtor at Cashin Company here in town (I have to get a plug in for all those who might need a Realtor in the area). I’m also on the Board of our little San Carlos History Museum. You all should know that along with a bunch of S.C. High stuff, one item we have displayed is the ’69 yearbook permanently opened to the famous (infamous?) picture of the mud bowl that year. I’m sure everyone still looks exactly the same.

I’m also on the Park & Rec. Commission in town. We are still in a huge controversy over whether or not to install synthetic turf at Highlands Park (formerly the high school). It’s been going on for years. There’s more passion on both sides (and apparently less solvable) than the Middle East!

I’ve always thought you guys were one of the best classes to come out of S.C.!

Cheers,

Gordie Burton

The teacher who had the most positive impact on me at San Carlos High:

I would say a coach had the most impact on me-Jerry Drever

My favorite subjects in high school were...

Does anyone remember the "Boy's Foods" class? It was really fun (and worthless- which was why it was fun- and why it only lasted one year)

Some of my best friends in high school (and what I liked most about them):

Lots!

Classmates I keep in touch with (frequently, often, sometimes)

From your class, I still see my buddies Scott Harms and Rich Ryan fairly regularly (although I'd be happy to see other people instead- if you have any suggestions)

The scariest moment of my life since graduating from SCHS was when...

The scariest moment had to be when Ann and I were leaving the hospital with our first born, and thinking "Are these people utterly stupid? How could they possibly entrust this baby with people as incompetent as us?"

25 Random things about me...

I love sports- hiking, biking, skiing, etc. But my favorite thing is tennis, which I love playing, especially against my son Ryan, and getting my butt kicked. I know this window closes way sooner than we want, but I'll treasure it while it lasts.

The things I am most passionate about these days include...

I love being on the Carlmont Relay for Life committee. We spend about 6 months preparing and organizing this event, and we've managed to raise a little over $100,000 in each of the last four years for cancer research. Anyone who's lived a while has been touched in some way by this disease, so I think it's worthwhile

I'm also really passionate about ethics in government reform. There's so much money being funneled to politicians that inevitably it unduly influences the system. It's really an non-partisian position, but I don't hold out much hope as it is opposed by our strongest political party... no not the Republicans or the Democrats, but the incumbent political party!.

What I think about this web site, and what I think would make it even better:

Nothing- Ellen (and whoever else) have done a wonderful job!!
