After high school I got a job for a year as a draftsman with an Air Conditioning Contractor, until they went out of business.
Then I went to work for various engineering firms (3) and I got my P.E. license and did HVAC/Plumbing design work. I was a Chief Engineer for 15 years before getting out of the design end. We did work for NASA, the Navy and developed new energy standards with the DOD.
I now do due diligence work for lenders. Between 1988 and 2006 I looked at high rise buildings for people buying and selling and wrote reports indicating required mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection and elevator repairs. Projects were in Canada, Mexico, Hawaii and almost every state. If a building is over 50-stories, chances are I've been on her roof. Now I do environmental, seismic loss analysis, and property condition reports on commercial projects I can drive to and from in one day. Airplanes suck.
