Patrick Kent Gwaltney, 51, of Sedalia, passed away Friday evening, July 22, 2016, due to an accident. Gwaltney was riding a bicycle on the shoulder of HH road when he was struck by a motorist.

He was born January 31, 1965, in Cheyenne, WY, son of Dale W. and Ethel Marie (Johnson) Gwaltney, who preceded him in death.

On March 31, 2012, in Las Vegas, NV, he was united in marriage to Shani Kristine Cooper.

Kent was a 1983 graduate of Smith-Cotton High School. Gwaltney owned and operated Patrick Kent’s Lounge in Sedalia and worked for Ditzfeld Transfer for the past twelve years. Gwaltney enjoyed sports and admired excellence in athletics. He was a lifelong Oklahoma Sooners fan. Kent was a standout basketball athlete at Smith-Cotton High School and played college basketball at Grand View University in Des Moines Iowa. He led many youth sports teams, coaching for the Sedalia Football League as well as several area traveling teams. Gwaltney was the Defensive Coordinator for the Sedalia Outlaws. He was a landscaping enthusiast and was well known for his Southwest Village holiday lighting displays.

Surviving are his wife, Shani, of the home; his son, Zach Gwaltney, of the home; daughter, Andie Rea, of Sedalia, and son Cooper Rea, of the home; and his brother, Dr. Kevin Gwaltney, of Lake Ozark, MO.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 28, at Smith-Cotton Junior High School Gymnasium, with the Rev. Gary Smith officiating.

Honorary bearers will be Dave Loveland, Dave Couch, Mark Stockstill, Mark Thompson, Ronnie Ditzfeld, Rick Yount, Martin Jackson, Butch Walker, Chip Thompson, Eddie Horn, Mark Wheeler, Bob Paul, Jim Caton, Joe Beykirch and Ben Lyles.

Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, at Smith-Cotton Junior High School Gymnasium.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to a college education fund for Kent’s son Zach.
