Pat we need money ASAP. We are going to have the reunion, there is not doubt about that as you can see everyone is interested. We could set up a pay pale like the class of 88 does or just mail in donations. I believe our class already has a bank account. We need to have a meeting I totally agree. We could meet for homecoming, we could meet at Embassy suites in Little Rock, they have a spacious room. I hold my Fantasy Football draft there every year for ten years now. We could even have our meeting in a yahoo chat room if you would like and just invite people from the class of 89. We could log on at the same time, get a chat room and discuss ideas of planning the reunion. If I have time tomorrow I will call the Belle of Hot Springs, The Austin Resort to get price quotes. If we just chipped in 10-20 a month or every other month it would help pay a lot for the reunion. This is the first time in 20 years, I think we should make this a historic event. Let me know what everyone thinks.

This is freaking hilarious! I have missed you guys! I love this site...thanks again Pat!
I think all of the ideas are great! I would love to make it a full weekend too but I would HATE to know that someone didn't come because it was cost prohibitive. I haven't been back to Sheridan much either but I don't think it can compare to Hot Springs. Maybe something in both places would work best? I just think we need to keep all of it in mind. Like others...I'm good with whatever! I am just so excited to be hearing from everyone!

We are making this reunion way too hard as far as financially. Here is something I come up with, see what everyone thinks. If we have 100 people put in $50 that would be $5,000. We have probably until May till August to have our reunion. That is at least 7-9 months away. If you just put in $10 a month until you reach $50 that would really cut the cost down where everyone would be able to afford and have a great time. I think everyone could afford $10 a month spreading it out for 7-9 months. We should already have a 1989 class account set up? What does everyone think about that?

Richard- i'm not too sure you haven't had a little 151 before hitting the msg board. haha. Just as long as you don't get into a pkg of those red dyed hot dogs. I'm not sure mom's vacuum ever recovered from that night. It's a wonder you didn't drown! LMAO!!!

I have a recurring dream of Cort and Carrie jousting on unicorns (how weird you brought that up) haha.

Let's have a get together meeting. If we put a chat up, we will have too many minds in the mix. Better be a commitee, and I want in!

I feel so left out here!

10/08/08 08:54 PM #105

Robert Welch

Don't feel left out. Everyone's welcome here. Its kind of like "Cheers."

Here's the bonus question for today:
What kind of car does Rob's wife drive?

A) a 1972 VW Bug painted up like Herbie
B) a 1985 Cadillac hearse
C) a 1990 Ferrarri Testarosa

Easy money here.

Hint..... its B. I'm hoping to get it cleaned up so we can drive it to the reunion. Iowa winters really hurt the old girl.

Jamie Gartman

Well, jump on in, Gwen. The water is warm, and apparently so is Richard's blood.

Yeah, I missed that party, too. I was with Chris that day and we were expecting to go to that party. At the last minute his parents told him to take me home and that he was spending his birthday with the family. So, unfortunately, was I. That sucked.

Robert, of course it's a hearse. You can't fit jousting swords(are they called swords?) in a Ferrari Testarosa. Believe me, I've tried.

Chris, I'm all for the $10 a month. Just let me know how and when.

Hey I called The Austin Resort Today in Hot Springs, Arkansas and here is what they told me.
* Ballroom Rental & Set Up Fee $400 for the evening. This includes: set up,linens, all dishes & utensils needed, 3 free ice water stations, staff on hand to serve & assist you, and clean up.
* Cash Bar Set Up & Bartender Fee $100 per bar
* Dance Floor $175*
DVD Projector $175+ tax*
6 Ft Screen $12 or 8 Ft $19.50+ tax
* Assorted Soda's & Bottled Water $1.50++*
* DJ & Karaoke $175- $250
$5,000 would cover this event with just 100 people easily. That would be $50 a couple. I kinda feel we would have between 150-250 people at least. I know our lives are busy, but it really seems a lot of people who are interested in seeing each other after 20 years!
Also I talked to a photographer yesterday, the one who took pictures for our 1987 football team reunion. He said he would take pictures at the event, the thing I really liked when I talked to him, was he said he brings a trailor with him, and when he takes a picture he produces the pictures there that night right on the spot. I told him we would definately want a group picture of our class, and I am sure various other pictures of that night. He said he would walk around and take pictures throughout the night, print them out and have them on display for us to evaluate to see if we want to purchase them. The only thing he would charge us for is whatever pictures we wanted to purchchase.
I will have the menu items on the next message

I don't know how many of you have ever planned a reunion or event with 150-250 people possibly for a reunion, but I have 4-5 times. I mean I think waiting until January 24th will be a MAJOR mistake. Ask Aaron Wilson, I have talked to him several times, he has helped me out more than he probably wanted to. One of the first things he commented to me about the reunion was at least your getting a head start. We got this website from his idea, and they are having their reunion in January of 09. Lets learn from there mistakes and take advantage while we can. I mean if we want to get something really nice, we have to book these rooms months in advance. See what everyone else thinks about waiting to plan, but I would hate to look for a place to have the event and then have them say sorry that room is booked for that night. I mean this is our 20 year reunion, I would like this night to be as perfect and special as possible.

The Belle of Hot Springs: I called today about booking the boat. If we have 150 people we have the boat to ourselves. The boat holds 250 people max. The price would be $32-47 per person depending on what menu we decided to eat for that night. This includes a cash bar, DJ, boat ride, Cash Sodas, tax, tip, and dessert. This is a 3-hour boat ride, if we want to ride an additional hour it would cost $300. We have the Austin Hotel all night long if we decided to choose that one. Magic Springs,I called them today. for a group rate. $28 per person. I personally thought The Belle of Hot Springs and Magic Springs were kinda pricy, but I am just one man and we have many in our class. Just some ideas to ponder on. This is the only thing I come up with, b/c I have planned 3 functions in this town and have worked with the Austin Resort and Lake Hamilton Resort. See what everyone thinks.

Jamie where the heck was I? Oh...grounded by Mr. Gartman! Probably for not attending church. I never knew you had so much fun without me! I still feel you could have stayed a little longer the night I asked you to! He HE. I never knew you could squeel tires on a gravel road!!!

I think the banquet room sounds great. $50 would be affordable.

Can everyone post their opinion.

Pat mentioned earlier that $100 and under should be our focus (not a direct quote.) That leaves the 2nd night or first (whichever order we are going in) up in the air and we are attempting to include family in this one (I think.) The Belle would be hard for a family event at $32-$47 per person. Actually, Magic Springs would be also.

Question: What big group activity could we do (family theme) for another $50 per family? I feel that this event should probably be a non-drinking event (or at least very toned down), while the banquet could be an all out, go for broke, party.

Picnics are cool and could be catered with games (kickball tournament??) for kids and adults, but the possibility of rain could mess that up. Is there a cool place to that anyone knows of in the Hot Springs area for this or something else?

As for the lodging, some will want to stay in Hot Springs and some will want to commute. We can not expect to stay under $100 per couple with lodging. I would like to see those who want to stay in Hot Springs for that weekend to try and stay together or close so that we can visit, get reaquainted, and just have fun. We would have plenty of time do small group activities (shopping, eating, etc.) between the major planned events.

I like the Hot Springs idea better than Sheridan, but I am only representing myself. Lets (everybody) post our opinions so we can kinda see where we stand and get something rolling.

And you know what, I miss all of you very much. This has been quite a treat for me to hear from all of you. Lets keep this site hot.

FYI - The webhosting company is in the process of some major upgrades to their servers this week. If you notice strange things happening...pages taking longer to load, message forum posts getting added twice, etc. it is due to the work being done to the server and software. The server upgrade should be completed in the next few days.

I just found out from the high school athletic department that the 2009 football schedule will not be finalized until March or April. Since a lot of what we plan will be date specific, if we want to stay with the homecoming game weekend we will have to wait until the spring to have that date finalized. The majority of the people who have responded to the website survey seem to want to try to plan on homecoming weekend.

10/09/08 01:32 PM #117

David Fort

I agree that we shouldn't wait until January to meet. That seems to be pushing it a little. We will wind up in a rush to finalize our plans.

If we go to Hot springs, I don't think we need to worry about homecoming. I, for one, don't want to drive to Hot Springs after the game. I would rather go to Hot Springs during the warmer months. That way, the family day could be planned outside at one of the parks or lakes for a cookout.

The family day might be better planned back in Sheridan so that more people will be able to pick up their kids. I imagine most of us will have family keeping kids in the East End/Sheridan area.

Breit - ditto on your sentiment. I really enjoy getting back in touch with all of you.

Jamie - You could've called someone for a ride. We could've sent Richard after you.

Chris - Whatever we have for dinner make sure there's a nice bottle of Chianti and some f-f-f-fava beans!

I agree with David about homecoming. I just want to see my old classmates from 1989 and catch up on old times, and the new times. I can't wait to see the coolest guy I know affecionately known as cool hicks. We also must remember about our kids who have ball games on the weekend, and tournaments. Does anyone have a neutral month they can think off where kids are slow on tournaments? I am thinking April or May, but I could be dead wrong. There will probably not be a perfect date. I have a friend I went to college with at Henderson State, he is the over the parks and recreation at Hot Springs, I will see what he recommends about a family event.

10/09/08 05:00 PM #119

Robert Welch

Here's an idea. We go with Chris' plan for the hot Springs banquet for the first half of the event and have a picnic the following afternoon at the rec center in Sheridan like Chris Paty suggested. I personally will have a bit of trouble affording a place to stay in Hot Springs but could drive back to Sheridan afterward to stay with my brother.
Those of us who haven't been around Sheridan for a while could look at all the changes and say things like, "What were they thinking?!" I know the last time I passed through, I was surprised that the WalMart store is now sideways from what it used to be. I thought someone had stolen the front doors. I would like to take some time to show my wife and kid the place where I was raised.

Jamie Gartman

Melody, the night in question was prom night junior year. I think you were gone by then, but probably grounded anyway. I think your dad still grounded you from time to time out of habit after you moved away.

All these ideas are good for me. I'm really open to just about anything. I would suggest that if we don't do it during football season, that it be during the summer since we are talking about Hot Springs and the lakes. A lot of us are involved in baseball and softball during the spring.

They ALL seem like great ideas!!!! I think Chris is doing an awesome job on finding all this information out. I'm just glad this site is up and running, thanks again Pat! Its great!!! I can't wait for the reunion!! By the way, Gayla Rice is officially a grandma now!! Her daughter had the baby over the weekend!
