Questions & Answers

Northwood High School Class of 1970

50th Reunion

Frequently Asked Questions (And Answers)

Covid

What about Covid?

We have been monitoring closely the state of the pandemic and will continue to do so.

Currently, infections and hospitalizations are declining, and we believe it is safe to go ahead with planning our belated 50th Reunion.

At the time of the Reunion, we will comply with the Covid policy in affect in Montgomery County and the Marriott.  For any other events, we will comply with the  Covid policy of that venue.

If classmates have other suggestions, please send them to northwoodhs1970@gmail.com and the committee will take them into consideration.

Reunion Information

When is the reunion?

August 20, 2022 6 pm – 11 pm.

Where is the reunion?

Gaithersburg Marriott Washingtonian Hotel (RIO)

9751 Washington Blvd., Gaithersburg, MD 20878

How much do tickets cost?

Early Bird Ticket - $110 per person

if you buy before April 30th.

Regular Ticket - $130 per person

If you buy between May 1st – July 31st.

August Ticket - $150 per person

If you buy after July 31st (or at the door)

Why are there different ticket prices?

When we signed the contract with Marriott, we made a significant financial commitment to the Marriott.  To encourage classmates to purchase their tickets sooner, we are offering the Early bird discount. This will help us meet the payment milestones stated in the contract.

When can I buy tickets?

Tickets will go on sale sometime in late February.  Watch your emails, Facebook post, or the NHS Class of 1970 website for the announcement.

When we are ready to accept payments, there will be a link on the website to purchase tickets.

How can I pay for tickets?

When tickets go on sale, we will provide a link on the website where you can purchase your tickets with a credit card.

Alternatively, if you want to pay by check, we will provide additional payment information.

What if I have dietary restrictions?

When we develop the menu, we will do our best to accommodate most dietary restrictions.

Lodging

What about lodging?

We have an agreement with the Marriott with rooms available for a discounted price of $109 plus tax.

Alternatively, there are other hotels close-by classmates may book if they so desire.

How do I register for a hotel room?

Marriott will provide us with a portal that will allow classmates to register for a room at the discounted rate.  When the portal is available, we will post the link on the website.

Marriott will require a credit card and will initiate a charge for the first night.

When is the last date to get the discounted rate on the room?

Marriott will honor the rate until July 29th, 2022. After that date, classmates will register for rooms at the prevailing rate.

Can I get a refund on my room if I find alterative lodging or decide not to attend?

No, once booked, Marriott will not issue a refund. Furthermore, rooms can not be transferred to another party.

Will I have to pay for parking?

If you are attending the Reunion but not staying overnight at the hotel, there is no charge for parking.

If you are staying overnight in the hotel, there is a $10 per night charge if you are parking a vehicle at the Marriott.

Donations

Can I make a donation to the class?

Yes, this year we have set-up a donation program. Classmates are encouraged to donate if they are able to do so.

How will these donations be used?

Donations will be used to offset the cost of maintaining the website for another five years and offset any reunion cost overruns.

Additionally, the committee is discussing the possibility of setting up a scholarship program to assist those classmates who may not be in a position to buy a ticket but would like to attend the reunion. The last two years have been difficult for many families.

We have not made a final decision on how this program would be administered but we will post additional information when a decision is made.

How much can I donate?

Donations will be accepted in any amount.

Bronze:       $5 - $25

Silver:          $26 - $50

Gold:             $51 - $75

Platinum:    $76 - $100

Champion:  $101 - $200

Angels:         Over $200

Will my donation be acknowledged?

Yes, for acknowledgement purposes, we have set up the donation classifications listed above.  There will be an indicator on the name badges acknowledging the donation.

Is my donation tax deductible?

No, we are organized as a 501 c(7) legal entity (social group). Only 501 c(3) donations are tax deductible.

Are Reunion Committee members compensated financially?

No, all classmates are volunteering their time and talents.

What will happen to any leftover funds?

Funds are required to maintain the class website and other minor business expenses.   A decision about leftover funds will be made at a later date. That might include a 75th birthday bash.

Other Questions?

How can I help with the Reunion?

Plan to attend and buy your ticket early!!

Reach out to other classmates (or their siblings) and make sure that they know about the Reunion.  Not everyone has an online presence. There are over 200 classmates that we have been unable to find, so your help is appreciated. Additionally, others have moved or changed email addresses and are not getting our updates.

I no longer live in Maryland but would still like to help.  Is there any remote support I can offer?

Robin Dinsmore is conducting an online search for missing classmates.  If you have a computer and basic computer skills, she is looking for help.  Please send us an email, and we will contact you.

What should I do if I want to volunteer my time?

Send an email to the address at the bottom of this page, and someone from the Reunion Committee will be in touch.
