Remember El Fredo's Friday July 25th 6:30pm

You don't have to drink beer to attend, but the pizza
is a must!!!!!!!

If anyone else is interested let me know I have a room reserved for us I just want to make sure it is big enough

We're in trouble; we had to get 2 guys from '89? They don't get to start. I still have a Fred Key trading card somewhere...

Here's the strategy: Carmen spots up at half court where they are not likely to guard. They won't guard Brock either because of the gray hair - very intimidating (they can sub for each other). Todd, you bring up the ball and use Dave or Brock as a screen. I'll use the glare off my forehead to freeze 1-2 defenders while Rob jumps out to the 3 point line and makes his defender slip on the crap that was in his hair and is now on the floor (I am assuming that we are going retro, here, and that may require a wig). Brian, talk enough smack to your guy so that he over-plays you and lets the back door open. Todd, you can now take it to the hole, hit Rich cutting, kick out to Rob, or kick way out for Brock or Carmen's sure 3. It will work!

In all seriousness, is anyone taking wagers on how many people get hurt?

One more thing. Who is officiating? Ron Hayden needs to know whose head to throw the ball over and pick up a T.

Hey Todd, I can bring something. If by chance I end up not getting there in time (I have to take my son to Sioux Falls in the morning)...then I think Lori said she was planning on coming to the game so she should have some too. John, your game plan sounds like a lot of work! But, of course also sounds like a winner. Robin, I was perusing youtube and found a care bears video that totally made me think of you. I swear you brought care bears to English class in eighth grade, didn't you? From there I found this clip of pound puppies. Too funny!

Have you guys seen this? It is hilarious, especially if you are a mom--

!!!IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT!!!

THE DATE & TIME FOR THE 1988 VS. 2008 BASKETBALL GAME IS CHANGED TO
FRIDAY, JULY 25 AT 7:00 P.M.
WEST MIDDLE SCHOOL GYM

Due to two schools being in one building this summer with little communication between the athletic directors, West Middle planned an 8:00 a.m.--9:00 p.m. tournament in their gym for Saturday the 26th. Without asking me they thought we would be content to play in a side gym with one row of seating in folding chairs three inches from the out of bounds line. Aside from the safty concerns with little children, the lack of a sound system, no score board, the noise of two other games going on simultaniously, and a seating capacity no bigger than the Dr. Cady's office, I told them, "That's not good enough for the class of 88! We're not a second-class class running a popcicle stand. We had Gerald Sims and Teri Guy in our class for Pete's sake." After I mentioned the name "Teri Guy," it turned out the gym was free for Friday night the 25th.

I had to take a Friday game as the best alternative. Playing amid all the caos of two other games taking place at the same time, would've turned this thing into nothing more than a scrimidge with room for 10 spectators. That is not how I envisioned this thing.

I'm sorry to everyone for the change--especaially Robin--since it crowds in on the plans for El Fredos that night. But on the bright side, it will be more like a Friday night high school basketball game with a pizza bash at El Fredo's follow the game. On the down side some people may not be able to make the game who otherwise would've been able to go. I hope EVERYONE who was going to go to the game can still make it!

Teri Guy (Skrdla)

Todd....if anyone is not able to make it due to the change, (speak up so we know!)...I can check with a church over by Kelly Dempsey's house (well, her parents'/by Briar Cliff) to see if the gym there is available. Or maybe someone else has a location idea. ?? I haven't been to the middle school, but is that side gym really all that bad? Maybe all those people going to that tournament would want to come watch you guys? :)

Not Saturday? I don't think I can be up there by 7 on Friday. Is there an alternative like what Teri mentions?

I haven't sat on the bench in many years and was looking forward to it.

Hey Todd gotta do what we gotta do, Elfredo's isn't that big of a deal. The only thing is that they are only open until 10PM. Yea that's what I thought too.

Should I maybe call them, explain our situation and see if they might stay open alittle later?

Do you know how we could get the BBALL info on the outside billboard at West High or West Middle? That might be kind of cool.

For the auction I have my West High BBALL megaphone and cheerleading jacket they are not high end items but might bring in a buck or two.

Hope you all had a great weekend!
So, what did you guys decide about the game?

Robin Roach (Campbell)

Teri,
I havn't heard from Todd.

My weekend was good. Did you get hit by the storm?
We lucked out no damage or trees down here.
I just down loaded 2 Outfield cd's I've been in heaven listening to them....Oh what memories listening to The Outfield in my Kraco stereo in my '77 Gold Honda w/ the big black racing stripe down the side, I wore that tape out and had to buy a second...aahhhh

Robin
Oh and as for Care Bears I still have all mine, and then when Claire was born we called her claire Bear and so she received a couple for her nickname, we still watch them there are so many new ones, we also love Strawberry Shortcake.

07/22/08 09:29 AM #51

Teri Guy (Skrdla)

robin! i forgot about your gold honda. i had an '80 gray chevette. and i had a tape that got stuck in the tape deck for awhile...i think it had a mix of songs on it. i put an outfield song on the playlist on the home page.

i wonder what it cost in gas to fill up those cars. what, twelve whole dollars maybe?

07/22/08 04:06 PM #52

Tina Blackburn (Benton)

Ok,
All this talk about cars.....at least most people only had one or two to speak of. I had at least 25 through out my driving career in high school. I don't know if anyone even remembers but mine always had "For Sale" signs in them-compliments of my Dad. I had one without reverse (which happen to be one of my favorites!), sometimes I would forget what car I had at the end of the day.

Good times!
Can not wait to see everyone this weekend.

John, I'm really bummed out if you can't make it. We spent some serious time together on the bench. With all that time on the bench didn't you make a 'weird al yankavitch' type rap based on the experience of sitting on the bench? Still remember it?

It would be really hard to switch the time or place now. Even Sunday at West Middle is not an option, because the 80+ game tournament goes on for most of the day Sunday as well. Another reason it'd be hard to switch, is that just today the AD at West Middle showed me how to use the microphone, scoreboard, and consession stand. On Friday he said he'd made sure everything would be set to go--so we only have to walk in and play. No where will this be so simple. Plus my cross country runners are buying up hot dogs and pop and candy to be stored in and sold from the consession stand near the gym.

I believe, aside from Marvin and John, the rest of the 88 team is intact. Two 'scheduling casualties' is two too many, but there wasn't anything I could do about it. Again, I am sorry.

Oh, does anyone have an 80s type boom box? The only way we'll be able to pump in some music will be to put the mic near the speaker of the boom box. Along with the boom box, if anyone wants to bring in some cardboard and baby powder, Jerry Turner said he will moon walk on it. Just kidding, Jerry didn't say that.

Teri Guy (Skrdla)

tina, i do remember that your dad always got you the car hookups! (like my dad --).. i remember your probe. i wanted to upgrade to that when it was for sale!LOL

it is going to be so great to see everyone! we are going to have to do a 25 year reunion rather than wait 10 years from now! life is too short!

teri

John Iverson

Well if Marvin isn't there, then you'll need me down low won't you? I'd hate to think that all this effort I have been giving to be able to touch the rim again would be wasted.

Mark me as tentative.

P.S. Let's run a high-low with a lot of ball screens. It works for KU...

Thanks to whoever added the 80s playlist - LOVE IT! Playing it right now at work - yeah, I got a slack job! I don't care what anyone says - 80s music like totally ruled! Long live the 80s!

07/23/08 05:02 PM #57

Teri Guy (Skrdla)

hey carolyn! i love 80's music too. if anyone has a request for the playlist, just email me or post it here and i will add it.

i am getting anxious to see everyone! the basketball game/elfredo's sounds fun. BA's and the picnic too!

07/25/08 08:58 AM #58

I hope someone is bringing a boom box, as I am bringing a couple of mix cd's with some tunes geared toward hoops:

Kurtis Blow (of course), Technotronic, early PE, Run-DMC, Beasties, Michael, Newcleus, even JJFad.

I think we can use old school rhymes to distract the other team.

Todd I can bring the "boom box" is there anything else you need??????

I took a few pictures at BA's and at the picnic which are now on my profile.
