During WWII our parents went to the Rendezvous to dance to the sounds of the Big Bands - Harry James, Artie Shaw, Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, Gene Krupa, Woody Herman, Lionel Hampton, Benny Goodman, and Les Brown.
The Rendezvous was passed to our generation in 1959 with the initial appearance of Dick Dale & the Del-Tones. Their opening show was to an audience of only 17. Soon, however, we packed the place for performances by groups such as; the Righteous Brothers, Jan & Dean, the Nocturnes, the Bel-Airs, the Surfaris, the Cantays, and the Challengers. The Rendezvous was destroyed by fire in 1966.
