Lots to say about my older brother.  He didn't tease me all the time like my younger brother.  Told way too many tall stories that were frequently  funny.  He loved cars. He chromed everything on his 55 Ford that you could possibly chrome.  I think Tom Persing started calling him Chromit.  He also changed the transmition from an automatic to a 4 speed on the floor.  He loved animals.  Actually gave me my first 2 German Shepherds and occasionally a cat.  He was so good at keeping in touch with family and loved holidays.  Christmas was his favorite and he practically was Santa Claus to my kids when they were little, then Jim's girls and then their kids plus nieces and nephews.  After my mom passed in 2011 he then spent a lot of time with my dad at his assisted living place.  He even bought him recliners so they'd be comfortable when watching TV.   I loved him and miss him a lot more than I thought I would.   Especially happy that he showed up at the last class reunion.  That was the last time I saw him and it made my heart happy.  His passing was not expected.  We all thought he would be okay.

I also found out that he bought pizza weekly for the staff where he was staying.  So typical of him.

Lu, thank you so much for posting this.

Gina, My condolences to you on the passing of your brother Bill.  So glad you were able to see him at our last reunion...."Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us every day.  Unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed, and very dear."  You will have the many memories to cherish.

William Forest Cornett was a one-off.  In any interaction with Bill, you knew exactly where it was going to take the both of you.  Nobody did a better job of taking an actual and relatively innocent event and turning it into something worth handing down from generation to generation.  His capacity to see the potential humor in life was truly commendable and surely played a big role in our friendship. I distinctly remember an evening in the Summer of 1964 when Bill and I walked out of a friend's house where he had entertained for the evening with memories that only had a slight relationship to reality--as I recalled them.  As we got into my car, I raised the matter of accuracy with Bill and his comment was "...well if Gaffaney had been there that is exactly what he would have done."  What could I say, Cornett was correct.

Gina

I remember you guys living across the street from us on Kaufman ave.  Your brother was alway kidding around he alway was cracking jokes.  You guys were always good neighbors over the years.  Those years growing up were a lot of fun.   Have not made the class reunions but keep in touch with a few but sorry I did not get to visit with him at the last reunion
