The band. Marching at football games and parades. The band picnics with Tug-O-War. VO'K and his blue convertable porsche. Howie Lynch with a string around his finger. And all of the secret loves that I could only dream about in high school.

Being in Madrigal!!!  I played the violin in the orchestra for one year.  Then Roberta Scougall signed me up to audition for Madrigal as a joke, without telling me.  The choir director sent for me and told me that since my name was on the audtion sheet, she wanted me to audition.  So I did.  I think I sang "My Country Tis Of Thee".  And I GOT IN.  I loved every minute of it.  Especially our trips to Boston and the annual talent night, Carousel (see Roberta Feldman Ornstein's profile for a picture of a performance of "The Telephone Hour" from Bye Bye Birdie, which we staged for one Carousel event.  I played Harvey Johnson, the kid who's voice was changing.

My other favorite moment was watching Brian Mastrianni shoot solid streams of saliva out of his mouth during Latin class.  Wait.  I think that was JUNIOR high school.  Never mind.

Biggest thrill: Going to Boston as part of the All-State Chorus

Biggest disappointment: Not making Madrigal

Well, there were actually lots of disappointments, but that one was big.

Building friendships that have lasted a lifetime. It's wonderful how so many of the friends that we established during our high school years remain to this day, even though so many years have gone by with little, if any contact.

My high school years were not necessarily stellar academically, but I can say, without doubt, that they were years which helped set a foundation for my future years of community service and involvement.

Be well my friends...

Sandy

After years of it sitting in my closet, I finally extracted my clarinet, had it refurbished, and have actually been playing it.  Even with other people aroundlaugh.  But, the process has made we wonder often about what happened to Vinnie O'Keefe.  It had actually been his clarinet.

Does anybody know where he went to, and if he's still alive?  I figure he must have been about 20 years older than us.

I used to be in touch with him on AOL mssenger, but the account was taken down. The last time I heard from him, his sister was very ill in NY and he was going there to visit her. Haven't heard from him since.
