St. Mary High School regrets the fact that Eastern Championship has not been held this year due to lack of sponsorship. We are aware of the fact that you look forward to its staging each year and indeed you have contributed significantly to our performance over the years. We encourage you to contnue monitoring our performance at the Athetics Meets that we attend and at ISSA Boys and Girls Chamionships in March.

We thank you for your continued support and wish for you all a  happy and prosperous 2016.

Thanks for the update and you know as they say everything happens for a reason and I strongly believe that. I think with this happening, coach Williams will have more time for training and grooming of our athletes for boys and girls champs along with other meets.
You can definately count on our continued support.

Devon Jones (1978)

Good Morning,

That is unfortunate, I remember back in my day we always looked forward to the championships, Easter, Boys and Girls. I would have been very disappointed if one of those years there were no sponsers. and I didnt know what a sponsor was back then.

I think we have a responsibility to give those children a day when they are propable the most excited, a day when we can produce another Doreen Samuels, Jacqueline Pusey, Everold Samuels (order doesnt imply anything) and I am sure Tichfield, Oberlin and Morant Bay can day the same. There are now more schools and these young people should be given the opportunity to be the next Usain Bolt.

I am suffesting that we form a group caled Friends of Eastern Championships and we ask past students to contribute what they can to make this work. I will commit in the first year to $730.00 Canadian dollars which is $2.00 a day I am sure other would be happy to give what they can afford. maybe more, maybe less and if it doesnt make the target I am sure that with some media assistance we could find a sponsor to ick up the slacks.

Any thoughts,

Devon Jones

Good idea however it is a discusión that would have to be held with the Chairman Mr Thompson of Titchfield High. An account could be set up for this purpose.

I agree, this should not be an arbitruary engagement. I am assuming that the people who could contribute the most are outside of Jamaica and the people who would manage this are in Jamaica. The PSA of the schools bay be far and wide but they could each set up an entity to solicit contribution. They could eithey hire someone or a firm who would get a percentage of the gross amount taken in or someone could do this in a volunteer role. I would hire a professional to solicit monthly or an annual contribution from whomever can afford or from people or companies they do business from (either buy good and service or sell goods and services).

In any event the schools as a group should also find out if spondors would be interest in paraking in this venture.

Very good suggestion Devon. I have so many fond memories of Eastern Champs, hard to imagine that it could be gone for good.

So we should throw our support behind it!

I love the school spirit exhibited in the responses concerning Eastern Champs. Please be reminded, however, that St. Mary High School is but one of the usual participants and NOT the organisers of the event.

I also love the Friends of Eastern Champs idea! Questions: Who will mobilize the other schools to participate? Who will contact the organising body and negotiate the sponsorship details?

Please let us look more closely at this before we move to securing resources and not be able to restore the event.

Remember when?

I love the picture. However, it remember me of the previous times when i used to represent St Mary High at Eastern Champs as well as Boys and Girls Champs....miss those times but as i progress in life i will always have these lovely moments that i shared with this school.

The St. Mary High School family wishes to express our love and support via this forum to  Rosemarie Boothe . You have been a tower of support to St. Mary High School ,trying with every breath that you take to kindle and re-kindle the flame of loyalty in the hearts of St. Mary High School's Past Students.Consequently the Past Students' Association  has grown and St. Mary High School has been the beneficiary of its growth and development. We thank you and we thank all Past Students who continue to take an interest in their alma mater.

Now however , we recognize that Rosemarie needs our prayers and our support as she herself challenges negative forces that seek to manipulate equity and justice. We stand behind you Rosemarie and beside you, encouraging you to be strong and courageous . We also encourage you to bend your will to the virtue of patience ,expecting that sooner than later conscience will triumph over bigotry and your heart will be lighter as you see light dawning at the end of the tunnel.

We at St. Mary High School along with all Past Students across the world, will continue to join hearts and hands in a united bond which will create a silent, yet powerful force that will ultimately counteract any evil deed or intent.

Soldier on Rosemarie and fight the good fight. May God continue to bless you.

St.Mary High School wishes to take this opportunity to thank via this forum Class of 1980 for their generosity and loyalty to St.Mary High school. We are truly grateful for your cheque of one hundred and seventy one thousand dollars given to us to construct three trophy cases to house our scores of trophies. This will allow all our students to view them at their leisure in the auditorium. There is no doubt that you have already been rewarded as we have gained additional trophies in Visual Arts, Music and Speech since you so generously contributed to the housing of our trophies. We thank all our Past Students who have given and continue to give. Thank you again Class of 1980. In the same breath I thank the Florida Chapter and wish for them outstanding success in staging yet another Reunion. We know we will benefit from this venture as we continue to do. God bless you all. Dear Past Students of the Florida Chapter how privileged you are and how privileged I am. I am privileged to have your support despite the fact that you also have challenges yourselves but you choose to help the less fortunate than yourselves. I am using my phone to send you this message because it has been delayed long enough because of lack of Internet service. You are privileged to live in a developed country where this service is guaranteed. Do not take it for granted. Similarly, I would urge you to treaure your PSA Florida Chapter and view it as a root that anchors the St. Mary High School tree.Water it and nurture it so that it can spread its branches far and wide. Do not damage it with words spoken hastily neither tear away its branches. Do not cut it down. Let it provide shade and beauty for all who desire these elements.
Thank you for a weekend of fun, food and frolic.Thank you for a weekend of spiritual connection.Thank you for a weekend of reflection. You forced me to reflect on the beauty of the human spirit-the spirit of giving even when you yourselves might not have enough.
Your medical supplies for the clinic and the bed linen are well appreciated. Your donation of nine hundred and two dollars is well appreciated.Your football shoes and gloves are well appreciated. Your iron for the clinic will prevent a chill when students arrive at school wet.
Your donation Paul from sale of SMHS shirts is well appreciated.
Your beautiful handmade bouquet Angella, I will treasure.
All who gave thank you. You said a kind word- I thank you. You came to remember the good old days and have a good laugh with batchmates. Your presence made a difference.
Our Nucleus - Rosemarie and her executive team relentlessly holding everyone close to the centre, we say thanks. My ever gracious chauffeurs sherryl and Angella, I salute you.
I re-connected with persons who have become friends. I met some new ones. Let us add more to the number. Let us not fragment. The PSA Florida brand is a good brand that shoud be improved upon until all past students view it as the centre of the St.Mary High School universe.
Mr. Brady, Commone, Mr. Williams, Paul, Angella and all others whose names I cannot recall at this time, please fight hard alongside Rosemarie to preserve the brand.

On behalf of the staff and students of St.Mary High, I express profound gratitude to the Florida Chapter of the St. Mary High School Past Students' Association for all donations and for caring enough about your Alma Mater to meet just so that you can give of your time, effort, resources and money.
Thank you all. God bless you!

Dear St. Mary High School Past Students:

It is with much pleasure and pride that I use this medium once again to to say thank you to St. Mary High School's Past Students generally for their support and good wishes. I wish to identify at this time however particular year groups for their contribution to St. Mary High School and/or its teachers recently. The year groups are : Class of 1980, Class of 1980 ( 11c) provided us with three beautiful trophy cases in which we have displayed our many trophies . These trophy cases cost $ 171,000.00 . They are proudly displayed in the auditorium for all to see.

Next we thank Class of 1991 for their contribution of $ 185,000 dollars to the Agricultural Science Department's Rabbit Production Project. You have made it possible for us to realize our goal for producing rabbits for the local market while simultaneously improving the Agricultural Science Departrment.

Finally we thank Class of 1996 for their Award Banquet . This occasion was used to award present and past teachers of St, Mary High as well as immediate past and present Principals of St, Mary High School. The event was inspiring as well as entertaining. Of note is the fact that Class of 1996 also awarded two persons form the community for contributing to their growth and development during their years at St. Mary High. This was a great gesture and much appreciated by the two recipients. Thank you Class of 1996 for a wonderful evening.

St. Mary High School staff and Students are extremely happy that our Past Students are taking such keen interest in our welfare . Indeed it seems that school spirit is at an all time high and we are truly humbled by it since we know it is a conscious choice you have made to sacrifice on behalf of your Alma Mater.

Thank you so very much Classes of 1960-2015. We appreciate you!!!

From St.Mary High School's Principal, Staff and students

Dear St. Mary High School Past Students:

I know I am a little late in registering the gratitude of the Board of Management ,Staff and Students of St. Mary High for all the things you all have done for us during the holidays. We, like other schools, have had to be searching desperately for new teachers due to attrition thus life at the moment is quite hectic. That aside though, let me thank Class of 1992 for their donation of paint to make our classrooms  much more  student-friendly. Special thanks to Kamone Lee. We also express our gratitude to Ms. Cassandra McKoy for the netballs,, training bibs ,resistance tubes, silver and gold medals, mini and large trophies as well as the netball whistle. We know Cassandra is passionate about netball and intends to provide the junior team with all they need to motivate them. We applaud her effort and pledge our support

We thank the Florida Chapter for the ping pong balls and sheet sets donated to the Guidance and Welfare Department.

We thank Mr. Pringle for the beautiful garden he has provided to enhance the auditorium.

Teaching and learning will be infinitely improved with the gift of 48 laptops from United Friends of Highgate- Florida Chapter. We thank you.

We thank you all Past Students and Friends of St. Mary High for the kind words and the donations that you continue to give and give..If I have failed to express gratitude to anyone or group it is not intentional  . I really appreciate all that you do. Just email or call me and I will gladly correct the omission.

God bless you and your loved ones.
