Dave maybe it wasn't bullet proof but BS proof of my texting on the website! 😁
Yeah summer is here as I saw the parades of mosquitoes and wood ticks going by oh and don't forget the gnats! I have managed to get out kayaking a fee times already and had a snapping turtle trying to race me. Thought of the movie Jaws as people were dangling their legs in the water sitting on their paddle boards. I'm not seeing any ideas or suggestions for our 50 year reunion? Any volunteers? Stay safe! Enjoy summer!

Bob, Hoping that Kayaking and wildlife help you with coming out of your "shell." With such a long winter, I'm glad you "snapped" to it (Kayaking). I would like a time together with all you classmates. Just texting each other (or is it messaging, or is it posting?) makes me regret not being pro-active in finding out all about my classmates 50+ years ago! What a great bunch of good people!

For a reunion venue, the VFW Red Barn worked out very well last time.  I would suggest that we attempt to use it again.  I believe Jeff DuBois is still holding the purse for this one, so donations should go to his address in the "support our website/donations" link on our home page.

Steve... K.I.S.S.? (Keep it simple silly).... what is the easiest to put together for a reunion? Steve, if you lived here we could have a party at your house. :)  On a very sad note, our classmate Kathi DeMarco (Buss) lost her first born, Stacy, this past week (KOK funeral home). Please Pray for the family's loss..

If everyone is ok with the same place as the 45th RedBarn VFW in cottage grove then we are checking out dates now.
End of Aug/Sept? Thinking of the snowbirds returning south. We have a lot of fun things planned. It would be very helpful to have some responses to whether you will attend. Thank you in advance! Any help is very much appreciated!

Very sorry for your loss!

Bob, do you think you might get your buddy Eric Clapton to play music at the class reunion? If so, ask him to play acoustical so we can hear each other talk. After all, that is why we are going to the class reunion. Thanks Bob! Don't listen to Steve Hardy's request for your other friend to do music, Bob Dylan. Great summer!

Dave, how about the Rolling Stones as you can't always get what you want. Maybe give you a microphone so you can hum karaoke. I know it's a year away but we already have some fun things planned. Waiting to hear back on possible dates/availability. Where are our classmates with all that spirit?
Maybe they don't get on this website?
Is there an interest to have a picnic the second day perhaps on Grey Cloud Island or somewhere. More time together.

The Friday night "hoedown" at the Red Barn, followed by the picnic Saturday, sounds llike a great plan.  Allowing a few hours of conversation before the music drowns us out would seem best.

And late September/October sounds good, especially if it would allow more snowbirds to attend.

The short weekends of reunion stationed at five year intervals seem reminiscent of the story of "Brigadoon."

Well, that brings up the most important question; do you think my ringing in my ear was from the charity event I attended once, about 1300 people in a small venue? Ever since then, ringing, ringing, ringing. Sounds like I'm describing a S.A. charity. But my comment wasn't about the music too loud; it was more abut Bob getting one of his friends to play... Rolling Stones it is. Thanks Bob! You ok with the Stones Steve? If not, tell Bob he can "get off my cloud" (1965).

I personally enjoyed going back to our days with some music to remind us of how much fun we had!  Music can always be turned down.  Steve, as far as "cost effective", renting the Red Barn and the food took up most of the expenses. Are you suggest no music, no food and just meet at the Red Barn?  Any other ideas out there?  Maybe we just do a picnic and make the most out of that gathering?

Dave remember a rolling stone gathers NO moss unlike those whom just like to sit around and claim its because they are "OLD". YES, we have lots of social time at the Red Barn and also will have some fun time!! Thinking the day after could be social time along with some potlucks or whatever at a nearby park.
What would be music to my ear would be to get some feedback from other classmates. That would be very much appreciated! Realize how fast a year goes by and consider looking back as it will have been 50 years. Thank you in advance.

Dave the only music I have heard so far is the "Sound of Silence!" Simon and Garfunkel (great song).

I was not suggesting the absence of any of the amenities such as food or music.  The lower volume of music was great for the previous two reunions, started at the later time, seemed to allow for an abundance of conversation, which seems like a great use of our limited time together.

Has anyone proposed an event itinerary yet?
Do we still need to create an itinerary, if so, how are we going to deside activities and who will be in charge?
Is there any budget left over from the last reunion?
Or how about a way to collect money in advance of the event so a budget could be in place?
Has anyone grabbed the reins yet?

Maybe Dave F. can put his band together by then. wink

There is still plenty of time to make this a great event, is it too early to start a task list?
We could start by finalize a date so we can start looking and booking?

I'll be as helpful as I can.

Steve, you're right about the money collection.  We need to establish a contact point for donations, such as an address for sending checks, and a VenMo or other online payment option.  The sooner the better, to give us the time to "trickle" in the donations if need be.

Bob, are you managing the collection?

Bob,

Steve Kaufold mentioned that he knows someone in a band, and that he will ask him about the price.

I could provide the music, if you really want. I sing like a prisoner. Behind a few bars and can't find the key.

Hello All!  Hope you are having an awesome Summer!  Regarding our 50th Class Reunion, Bob and I are willing to take on organizing the event, and according to Joe Cocker; as long as "We can by with a little help from our friends" smiley  I have been in contact with the Red Barn for regarding available dates and they are pretty open right now.  Thinking about Friday, September 22nd, or Friday October 13th from 5p-9p? I'm not sure when snowbirds leave, so I thought these dates would be safe. We need to reserve the date early!  Cost of the rental is $1000...no surprise that this expense will take up whatever is left in the budget from the last time we met.  Ofcourse, we will need to cover what we don't have with donations.  Jeff DuBois has been the keeper of the budget, so I am not sure what we have left to work with.  Bob and I have some really fun activities planned, so we will volunteer for that(I guarantee you won't be disappointed)!  I am creating a spreadsheet of what all was involved in setting up the reunion from last time, so we can get some volunteers to lighten the load. We had some feedback about music interfering with folks visiting, so to save the expense of hiring a band, what about just using Pandora Shuffle so we can cover many music genres, and also give people some quiet time for cathching up?. Anyway, I'll put together a spreadsheet and get it posted for feedback!  Enjoy the rest of your Summer!

I'm sure I have enough audio gear lying around to supply a PA system that is more than adequate for making our announcements and playing nostalgic background music. I agree a live band, even though it could be fun, would probably interfere with the socializing aspect which is what a reunion is mostly about. I still do have a lot of connections in the entertainment biz if it is decided that a majority people would prefer live music.

If Dave Fraser wants to put together a Class of 74 all-star band, I have the drums, keyboards, amps, guitars... everything needed to make Dave the rock star he's always dreamed about becoming. laugh

I like Yvette's suggestion about the music, sort of DJ'ing it with some Pandora or other mixes.

I can put a donation point of contact on our main page.  Will Jeff be receiving the donations, or do we need to send them elsewhere?  I can post that information here as soon as it is confirmed.

Wow! You all are impressive... How quickly you come together and sort things out. Those dates are next year's dates (sorry, I'm a little slow upstairs)? And Steve B., you don't want me to sing... I offered my services to the pastor when he preaches, I'll close his serrmon with singing, then he can say, "Now that you suspect what hell will be like, accept Jesus now for the free git of heaven."

Do we just decide on a date?  I'm not sure how many classmates are on here much. Any way we could send a mass email letting everyone know we are in planning mode and we have narrowed down the date?

Francene has an super great speaker, with microphone that we could set up Pandora through.  I will work on an itinerary and send it with a sign up spreadsheet!  Can't wait, should be fun!

I'm just one vote here, but the October date would work better for at least four of us.  We will be in the BWCAW on our annual trip in September. Starting on the 19th. smiley
