Paddling on Saturday the 16th this weekend works for me, butI will verify with my wife who is currently in Europe.
I was thinking of paddling the backwaters of Mississippi at Grey Cloud Island. There is a launch point near one of the bridges in grey cloud. The backwaters there may be little more interesting and less weedy perhaps than a lake. we can do an out and back trip.
There is also Long Lake in New Brighton, MN, or the Rum River at the Anoka fairgrounds (would paddle first upstream and then down).
Another possiblity is the St Croix river at William O'Brian state park - nice park facilities for a picnic and of course the river is nearby.
I have not paddled on White Bear Lake.. but am flexible to paddle anywhere!
I own a two person kevlar canoe and a three person/seater kevlar canoe.
I am checking if the club will allow me to use one or two of their four person canoes for the event.
Note that I originally planned to paddle a canoe race with my 89 year old dad on Labor Day weekend in Quebec Canada, but he suffered some fractured ribs. Consequently I paddled day one of the three day race on Labor day weekend with my daughter instead :)
Unforturnately I did catch covid on that canoe race trip - my first symptoms were Tues Sept 5.
I feeling fairly good now (had a mild case) and Sept 16 will be 11 days after the initial symptoms so, as per the CDC , I should not be contagious on the 16th and should no longer need to wear a mask. It was my first time getting covid so I am bumming :(.
One of our race pit crew members tested positive with covid after I started driving back home - it appears that I caught it from him.
Paddling is an outside activity so there is a degree of protection from covid there with so much ventilation.
If there are health concerns I am also happy to wear a cloth N 95 respirator for the entire gathering to ensure others are protected from potential exposure.
