I agree with Tom, keep the expenses down and facilitate an atmosphere of fellowship and reconnecting.

We made the $500 deposit in the Red Barn rental.  3 classmates and myself donated a total of $200.  Jeff, can you Venmo me the balance in the budget so we can break even on this expense?  @Yvette-Nierenhausen.  Thanks, and thanks to all for donating!  Enjoy your weekend!

Hi Yvette - thank you for securing the Red Barn!

I will mail you the balance of the class account via check to your home address.

Thank you Steve Hardy for keeping this site alive!

Thank you very much to those whom help send money in for the reunion. It was very much appreciated. I know everyone will have a lot of fun at our 50th. With that in mind a year will go by fast so please put the date of October 11, 2024 on your calendar. Secondly please contact any fellow classmates in letting them know of our reunion and the date. Also we would like to have a potluck picnic the following day at a nearby park. Plenty of catch up time!
On that note some of us would like to get together for a picnic/ canoe/ kayaking time yet this year. Dont have to canoe or kayak but stil participate for some fun. Dates?

08/08/23 09:22 PM #2325

Steve Hardy

I updated our "Reunion Info" page on this site with the dates, and I sent an email to phs@sowashco.org, asking that the site administrator post the reunion info on the alumni page.

Even after we cover the $500 deposit, we all should keep sending donations, a few dollars here and there, so that we can cover the balance by the time it is due.

Thanks Steve! Very much appreciated! How are the funds for the website? Do you help in that funding as well?

Lynn Dieman (ldieman@sowashco.org) responded to my request to post the reunion info to the PHS Alumni page, so the announcement is up and running.

BTW, who is managing the Facebook page for Class of 1974?

Steve. you asked, "BTW, who is managing the Facebook page for Class of 1974?" Don't know the answer, my answer could be, "not me." Sorry (just trying to keep your question alive).

Regarding a picnic and canoe/kayak get together - yes that would be great fun!

FYI - Regarding a date for the event my currently open weekends are Sept 16/17, Sept 23/24, and Sept 30/Oct 1.

Labor day weekend and the weekend after labor day (Sept 9/10) are already booked for me - although I might be able to make a Sunday Sept 10 get together.

Any more takers on the canoe/kayak get together?

Thanks Jeff for providing those dates. What are the dates that a group of guys go to the boundary waters? Once we know that then let's pick a date and anyone who wants to get together for a picnic and canoeing/kayaking or just yakking! The more the merrier!

Bob, this year our BWCA trip is Sept 18 - 25, but I wouldn't try too hard to plan the activities around our trip.  Go with whatever works out for the most who have already shown interest.

Thanks Brent! Does Sept 16 sound like b.c an open date got most to get together? Lake/parks perhaps like White Bear or Bald Eagle or any other where people don't have to by a pass. Where there is ample parking and picnic tables etc. I know Jeff mentioned he has access to some canoes and I have an extra kayak. If anyone knows of a great place then let's go!

I have an extra kayak as well!  Should be fun!!

Paddling on Saturday the 16th this weekend works for me, butI will  verify with my wife who is currently in Europe.

I was thinking of paddling the backwaters of Mississippi at Grey Cloud Island.  There is a launch point near one of the bridges in grey cloud.  The backwaters there may be little more interesting and less weedy perhaps than a lake.  we can do an out and back trip.

There is also Long Lake in New Brighton, MN, or the Rum River at the Anoka fairgrounds (would paddle first upstream and then down).

Another possiblity is the St Croix river at William O'Brian state park - nice park facilities for a picnic and of course the river is nearby.

I have not paddled on White Bear Lake.. but am flexible to paddle anywhere!

I own a two person kevlar canoe and a three person/seater kevlar canoe.

I am checking if the club will allow me to use one or two of their four person canoes for the event.

Note that I originally planned to paddle a canoe race with my 89 year old dad on Labor Day weekend in Quebec Canada, but he suffered some fractured ribs.  Consequently I paddled day one of the three day race on Labor day weekend with my daughter instead :)

Unforturnately I did catch covid on that canoe race trip - my first symptoms were Tues Sept 5.

I feeling fairly good now (had a mild case)  and Sept 16 will be 11 days after the initial symptoms so, as per the CDC , I should not be contagious on the 16th and should no longer need to wear a mask. It was my first time getting covid so I am bumming :(.

One of our race pit crew members tested positive with covid after I started driving back home - it appears that  I caught it from him.

Paddling is an  outside activity so there is a degree of protection from covid there with so much ventilation.

If there are health concerns I am also happy to wear a cloth N 95 respirator for the entire gathering to ensure others are protected from potential exposure.

For the Kayak/Canoe outing - on the St. Croix there is also an launch point at Marine on St. Croix by the "ice cream shop" where there is no parking fee, but not sure if there are picnic tables there except for the ice cream shop customers.

Long Lake regional park in New Brighton has tables.

At Grey Cloud Island there is maybe only one picnic table.

Another possibility is to paddle at Lion's Levee Park in St. Paul Park.  Nice park and free parking, but once you paddle downstream a bit there is about a five minute stretch where you are on the big Mississippi.  We would also probably want to do a shuttle if we do that route, paddling from St. Paul Park to Grey Cloud Island.

People should bring life jackets if they have them!

I am on for paddling this weekend Sept 16 or 17 if there is an interest from others...

Jeff thank you very much for your help and ideas for places to go on Saturday. My suggestion would be Bald Eagle lake as there aren't any fees each to get to there is a large pavilion with 5th h a lot of picnic tables and parking. Easy for paddling for those whom dont canoe or kayak much. People can bring whatever they want. Have a fun get together. So where is Dave now? If anyone is interested it would be nice to know would can come so we know to bring extra canoes/kayaks with life jackets etc. And people dont have to do that but just enjoy the time with classmates.
