It doesn't seem possible that it has been 40 years since graduation-until I look in the mirror. It also doesn't seem possible that I have been with Delta for almost 38 years. I ran away and joined the airlines when I turned 20 and was always the baby of the crew. Now I am the senior mama.I have been involved in a number of aspects of the airline-from flight attendant supervisor to instructor for recurrent and initial training to interviewing new hires. I also serve as a peer representative for administrative appeals and am on what we call the Care Team-if there is an aircraft incident I am assigned a family to care for and assist in any way possible. I still enjoy flying the most and have been lucky to make very dear friends in other countries. I was fortunate to marry a wonderful man later in my life. We had several good years until his death from cancer 2 1/2 years ago. Since then I have been involved with an animal rescue group fostering dogs and I also volunteer at the hospice where my husband was. What incredible people work there! I can't figure out where they put their wings when they come to work-I am sure they are really angels.Recently I was honored by being asked to speak at a black tie fund-raiser for the hospice featuring Jeff Foxworthy-what a nice man! I would love to retire but in reality will probably keel over in the aisle. I just hope my colleagues won't run me over with the beverage cart. I have bought property near Turnersburg in the hopes of building there some sweet day. I have enjoyed life in the big city and traveling the world but look forward to settling back into a small town life.
There are so many things that flash through my head-lusting after Mr. Pfeiffer with the other girls, away games-weren't we daring?-with the occasional stray egg lobbed from the car. Sitting on "senior" steps after we got our class rings. Having to kneel on the floor to make sure our skirts were long enough or back home we went. Mr. Hiatt,Mrs. Goins-whew! My one regret is that I didn't have enough time to really get to know more people in our senior class. I am hoping we will have a good turnout in August.
