I was extremely sad to learn of Bill's passing. I remember him as a renaissance man. At Swarthmore he was pre-med and in the English Literature Honors program. Bill said he considered becoming a concert pianist but the necessary training wasn't available where he grew up. He loved opera and French cuisine, typed 120 words per minute and baked a delicious key lime pie. In the comments posted to his obituary, two people said he saved their life through his medical expertise. What a wonderful tribute to his life.

I was a terrible roommate for freshman year in the Wharton 101 quad.  Bill loved the Sunday opera broadcasts on the radio, while Peter, Fred and I were typically into anything diametrically opposite to classical music.  We were just that shallow.  But I remember Bill as someone I envied - quiet... gentle... self-assured.

I've often wondered where life had led him.  What he had accomplished.  I was sure it would have been different than my journey.  Now I'm sad that his has ended - but hope it was a great ride for him.
