Victor Johanson

Joel was my best friend for the last couple years at Chamberlain, and teammate on the "Categorically Speaking" quiz team. He was brilliant and individual. After high school we went our separate ways, and I don't think I ever saw him again, although I may have spoken to him on the phone once or twice, and we did conduct a brief email exchange many years later. Sorry to hear he's moved on.

I had completely forgotten (consciously, anyhow) that John even existed, and then I had a weird dream some years ago in which he appeared in the form of an Army second lieutenant...later on I tracked him down online and we had a good laugh about that. RIP John.

I was close friends with Donna at Buchanan (I think we met in one of Mr. Landry's history classes) and Chamberlain. She was my date to Bern's steakhouse the night before I left for the Army. I visited her once during my enlistment, and then lost track. Some years on, my late father bumped into her after he did a radio interview in Asheville, where she had moved. I tried looking her up a few times, but to no avail. It was only recently that I'd learned of her name change and found her once again. Ironically, she had lived in St. Louis in the early '80s during a time I was living there also. We communicated some online, but I never got to see her again before ALS took her life.
