Why are there ads anyway?

Simple.  It's a free site.

We could defer the full cost of eliminating all ads from the site ($220) by charging classmates an added fee to join, but the committee has worked hard to keep down costs, so we chose the free option.

There is never a time when you will use your credit card on this site.  If something asks for it, it is not connected to the Class of '73 and is probably a pop-up ad.  Ignore it.
