SENIOR SUPERIORS
On the third day of September., Nineteen Hundred and Sixty eight, 84 seniors filled with anticipation, entered the hallowed halls of UCHS for their final stretch.
The 42 guys and 42 gals were carefully and wisely advised by Mrs. Pendill, Miss Gregg, and Mr. Bartlett.
The first order of business on the sixty niners' schedule was the election of class officers. Rex Spoor and Denny Spooner were wisely chosen as the senior's co-leaders. Doug Brooks handled notes for the class and Mary Lou Knapp kept track of the money. The Class of Nineteen Hundred and Sixty Nine was ready to make it the best year they'd ever seen.
Next on the schedule was to send representatives from the class to fill seats in the Student Council. President Rolla Uldriks received Larry Carpenter, Mike Claar, Dan Hicks, Tim Kever, Micki Smith and Rex Spoor as the senior members.
Football is a big part of fall. Lee Tundevold and Dennis Spooner were elected as captains for this year's team. At the end of the season two seniors were given high awards by their teammates. Maynard Wood was elected as the Most Valuable Lineman, and Garth Kincaid received the Most Valuable Back. Garth was also awarded Most Valuable Player and received honorable mention on the all-conference team.
School spirit is an essential part to any team's success. Mary Lou Knapp, Micki Smith, and Karen McCormick were the senior yell leaders. This was the fourth complete on the cheerleading squads for Micki and Mary Lou.
Mary Lou Knapp was crowned the 1968-69 Homecoming Queen Oct. 4, with Lee Tundevold as her escort. The other two sixty niners' on the court were Vicki Hoenes, escorted by Mike Claar and Micki Smith, escorted by Tim Kever.
Next on the schedule was the 1968-69 basketball season. The senior captain of the team was Tim Kever. Dan Hicks received the Most Valuable Player award for his outstanding performance this year. he also received the Top Rebounder award and was given honorable mention on the all-conference team.
Three seniors were inducted into the National Honor Society this year. They were Connie Halstead, Rose Martin and Doug Brooks. the N.H.S. officers were President, Larry Smith; Vice President, Steve Patton; Secretary, Kris McCormick and Treasurer, Karen McCormick.
The class of '69 produced an outstanding wrestler as well. Ron Peck was the captain of the wrestlers. He was seated second in the state of Michigan at the 165 weight class. Ron also won the Regional and Quadrangular championship and was second in the conference. he placed fourth in the G-A and Parma tournaments.
When basketball and wrestling season ended, things really started popping for the seniors. Announcements were ordered and we were measured for caps and gowns.
On May 7 the buses were loaded and the Class of '69 had their Senior Trip.
The junior class then honored us at the traditional Junior-Senior Banquet held May 10 and prom held May 17.
The class brain power was also announced this spring. Sue Warsop was awarded head of the class with a grade point average of 3.914. Cindy Crane was second with an average of 3.563.
Dan Hicks and Wayne Alexander were the senior captains of this year's baseball team. They were both big factors in the success of the season.
Most members of the class will tell you the past year has gone by almost too fast.
Graduation is June 5, and so ends the Class of Nineteen hundred and Sixty-Nine.
