Steve, do you remember the night in the 9th grade when the football team went to Dewey to play? They were real bad asses. But, somehow we beat them that night. After the game some guy, I think he was a linebacker, came up to our team and asked if #20 was there and you real happily bounced out and said "yeah that's me". Then the guy just cold cocked you, and almost started a riot. Wasn't that you?

Steven Ray (Steve) Postier

Bruce- Yes it was me. I think that I punched or bit him in a pile up.

GUYS, I remember after a Dewey game we went into the bathroom and some of the Dewey cheerleaders came in and starting acting really tough. It was the first and only time I ever saw brass knuckles. They made a believer out of me..It had to be the same game.

Jan- Was Rhea the one with the Brass Knuckles?

Rhea Joyce Freeman (Weaver)

I can remember LOTS of times after a game that we thought we were going to get in trouble because someone tended to get "mouthy" but I don't remember the brass knuckles...BUT, I'm sure Jan is right and I had to protect the rest of them.

Thank you Lavanna - what a nice thing to say. I remember you being at camp and in the pep squad and you sure could yell!

Lavanna M. Hawkins (Morgan)

HI RHEA- YES, AFTER I GOT MARRIED AND HAD 3 TEENAGE BOYS ALL OVER 6 FOOT, THEY SAID THE SAME THING. I GAVE UP SPANKING THEM WHEN THEY WERE ABOUT TEN, BECAUSE THEY WERE TALLER THEN ME. I STARTED GRABBING THERE HAIR WHEN THEY WERE SITTING DOWN, THAT SURE GOT THEIR ATTENTION AND THEY HATED IT. BEING A SINGLE MOTHER RAISING 3 BOYS WAS REALLY HARD, SO I DID WHATEVER I COULD TO KEEP THE PEACE. ALL OF YOU LADIES OUT THERE SHOULD THANK GOD THAT YOU HAVE LOVING HUSBANDS WHO ARE THERE TO SUPPORT AND LOVE YOU. IT'S A CRUEL WORLD OUT THERE.

Here's the truth about Rhea, she really was probably the best kid in high school. She was a good one to admire, Lavanna. I can't imagine raising 3 boys alone, especially if you lived near snow. When my adopted son came to live with us at almost nine, his counselor told me that I better get my bluff in quickly. For the most part, I did. He sure didn't always do what I said, but he knew there would always be consequences. When my girls were growing up, no-one wanted to sit in the middle of the back seat because that was the only one I could reach to pinch, when they were bad. Steve, this is not anything to report to DHS (the bruises are long gone).

MARY ANN- I DIDN'T RAISE MY BOYS HERE, WE LIVED IN SUNNY ARIZONA. MY OLDEST SON IS BI-POLAR WHICH I DIDN'T FIND OUT UNTIL HE WAS GROWN, HE WAS VERY VIOLENT TO HIS BROTHERS AND TO ME. HE SLAMMED ME AGAINST THE WALL, THEN THAT WAS IT, I MOVED HIM OUT TO LIVE WITH HIS GRANDPA. I TOOK HIM TO SEVERAL COUNSELORS, BUT THEY ALL SAID THE SAME THING, IF HE DOESN'T WANT TO BE HELPED THEY CAN'T HELP HIM. THIS WAS WHEN HE WAS A TEEN. WE HAD MANY WARS IN OUR HOUSEHOULD THROUGH THE YEARS, BUT NOW AS A MAN HE IS SEEING A DR. REGULARLY AND IS ON MEDS AND HE IS A TOTALLY DIFFERENT PERSON. HE WAS ONE REASON I LEFT ARIZONA, I JUST COULDN'T STAND TO BE AROUND HIM ANY LONGER. I KNOW THAT IS A TERRIBLE THING TO SAY ABOUT YOUR OWN SON, BUT HE MADE OUR LIVES A TRUE HELL. MY MIDDLE SON IS STILL TO THIS DAY SCARED TO DEATH OF HIS BROTHER, AND WILL NOT GO AROUND HIM. HE LIVES IN OHIO. BUT THE GOOD LORD WAS ALWAYS WITH ME AND GAVE ME THE STRENGTH TO GO ON. HE SAW ME THROUGH THAT, AND MANY OTHER THINGS, AND I KNOW HE WILL ALWAYS BE WITH ME.

From the Tuesday, May 5, 2009 Vinita Daily Journal:

PAGES OF THE PAST

40 Years Ago.....

Jan Nix was crowned VHS Band Queen by band president Barry Denney during the annual spring concert. Her court included Carla Williams, Jody Shelton, Ann Chandler, Jan Shelton, Ginny Dillon, and Pauline Cass. Carol Lee Campbell was the flower girl and Dan Chapman the crown bearer.

I now remember, Rhea did come to our rescue on several occasions. She used a defensive move she had learned when dating some boy in jr high. Judy I figured out why you remember so much-it has to do with the thongs you told us you own. They must keep the blood flowing to your brain. Lavanna you haven't had it easy, but you've dealt with life and are a true survivor. But maybe your own thongs will give you a lift.
After seeing Judy's picture and how happy she looks, I know I'm going thong shopping this weekend.

Judith Ann Postier

Jan- A couple of hints on thong shopping....

Always try them on, the fit and feel is important!

Get several colors to color co-ordinate with your outfits, (or give Big Dick a buzz.)

05/06/09 01:39 PM #556

Lavanna M. Hawkins (Morgan)

JAN- I DON'T WEAR THONGS. I FEEL REALLY UNCOMFORTABLE HAVING MY BUTT NOT COVERED AND BESIDES LIVING IN N.Y. IN THE WINTERTIME MY BUTT WOULD BE HAVING ICE CICLES HANGING OFF OF IT.

MY LIFE HAS MADE ME A STRONG PERSON AND I KNOW THE LORD ALLOWED ME GO TROUGH THE DIFFERENT THINGS I DID, TO HELP OTHERS THAT I HAVE COME ACROSS IN MY LIFE, GOING THROUGH THE SAME THINGS.

Jan- While shopping in Tulsa this week, I saw a few pair of thongs with rhinestones on them. They were really cute. I'm sure you can find them in Montana, but if you can't, let me know what size and I will send you a pair so you can see if you like them.

Lavanna- You really must try a pair of thongs. I'm sure New York summers are warm enough to wear them.

I thought ladies of a certain age wore bloomers....;)

05/06/09 10:23 PM #559

Janis Ann (Jan) Dirickson (Marshall)

Judy, I tried to get Dick to try thongs but he didn't like the sound that they make when you walk. Ya know that suction sound.

05/06/09 11:10 PM #560

Rhea Joyce Freeman (Weaver)

Excuse me Paul, but I have never owned a pair of bloomers nor do I ever intend to. Judy, I have a pair of black with rhinestones...

Oooppsss....;) I thought the lastest fad was Crocs? It's so strange seeing people wearing plastic shoes...

Lavanna, I know what it's like to live in the cold country. One winter the tractor tire was flat so Dick sent me to town (80 miles one way) to get it fixed. I wanted him to send the hired man, but he said No, I need him to feed since the tractor is down. So, I headed to town, the wind chill was -65. I drove fast, like 80 mph, passed a highway patrolman and held my breath. I knew the cop and saw him later in the cafe (as I was waiting for the tire) he said, "Mrs. Marshall what in the hell are you doing out in this weather, and going a little fast weren't you?!" I said, Officer Sheilds, my husband didn't need me, and yes, I was driving too fast, but I figured if you wanted to stop me and stand outside in
-65 to write a ticket, you could. Obviously you didn't, cause I didn't get a ticket. Actually, -30 actual temp. isn't as cold as you think, we have dry air which is so different than the humid regions. I just know I can dress for cold, but not for hot. Wind chills are another story.

Janis Ann (Jan) Dirickson (Marshall)

Paul, sorry to tell ya but the styles just keep coming and going. I had plastic shoes, they looked like Cinderella slippers, you know back in the old days. Okay maybe not all styles, I don't and haven't had bloomers.

05/06/09 11:51 PM #564

Paul Ray Wever

and I suppose you don't have any cullots either....:) Jan, you were always such a fashion statement.

You would be amazed at all the people here who wear flip-flops (thongs?). But then again it doesn't really get that cold here.

05/07/09 07:35 AM #565

Lavanna M. Hawkins (Morgan)

JAN- YES I KNOW ABOUT THE COLD BUT NOT THAT COLD.I ABOUT FROZE THE FIRST YEAR I MOVED HERE I WAS ALWAYS WRAPPED UP IN A BLANKET. I LEARNED EARLY LAYERS, LAYERS AND MORE LAYERS TO STAY WARM. IT GOT -20 DEGREES ONE WINTER AND THAT WAS JUST THE TEMP. YES WIND CHILL IS ANOTHER STORY. I CAME FROM SUNNY ARIZONA, IT'S LIKE A DIFFERENT WORLD HERE.
STEVE- NO COMMENT ABOUT THE ICICLES HANGING OFF MY BUTT? I'M DISAPPOINTED.

egad!!! 23 pages! When i started posting there were 2!

When I was last here there were 11!

Okie dokie...well Sam (Samantha) is thru her prom! Thank God! She has had the college advisor set her classes for fall. (whew) The ROTC awards cermony was this last Monday! (sigh) Thats over. Now the next big thing is Grad Nite (trip to Disneyland) Graduation practice and then the BIGGGGGG day. GRADUATION!!!! YEA!!!!

You know the old saying "I am bleeding money" well folks, I am way past that...we are now down to "HEMMORAGING" money!!!!

Trying to get a kid started in college these days...and thru their senior year...(moan, groan... and thats just from the pocket book) LOL

Then just when you think you have a handle on things, comes the emotional side of the whole issue. Now guys, I am as tough as they come, but this little 5'3" ball of fluff, blue-eyed charmer can bring you down to a gurgling mass of sobbing protoplasma with the checkbook, credit cards and cash in your hand screaming "take it! Take it all!!" And then she has the unmitigated gall to stand there bat her eyelashes and proclaim "I love you daddy!" Her mother just looks at me and shakes her head sayin "You pussy!" ROFL!!!!!!

Yeah well, we will see who is bawlin buckets when she moves out this fall...teeeeheee...revenge is going to be "sweet"!

This is last one folks, no more kids, dogs, cats, gerbils, guinea pigs, gold fish, etc etc. Aug 14th is emmancipation day! We will be FREEEEEEEE!!! And the first one of you that tells me "womb to the tomb" I swear I will smack you on the nose with a rolled up newspaper. LOL
Let me live in my fantasy world of make believe that she isnt going to be calling me in the middle of the night "daddy I miss you" or moving back home with kid in tow from the first domestic squabble. Nope. Dont want to hear that...(sticks his fingers in his ears) LOL

I love all my boys, they have been a hoot to watch grow up and become men with thier own families and problems. Although, I wasnt around them that much, Fran did an excellent job in raising all of them. All of you who lived or still lives in the Vinita area...I am sure has had to come across them in your travels. From the heart, I thank you one and all for the postive influence and role models that you gave my children during the years.

Thank you!

Welcome back Johnnie! We sent a search party out for you but they didn't come back either. You have A LOT of catching up to do...

Johnnie Wayne Johnson

Hi Rhea,

Yeah, had a lot of "stuff" going on, all at the same time. Finally gettin a chance to sit back and take a deep breath. That and let the credit cards cool off a bit. LOL

LOL...if you sent Steve and Bruce after me...(rolling on the floor laughing) no telling when they will be back. Never send a man to do a women's job, not if you want it done right!!! LOL (picture two little boys on their way to school stopping to inspect every butterfly, bug, creepy-crawling along the way) teeeeheeeee

Hugs

John
