HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU TOO BRUCE I HOPE YOU HAVE A GREAT DAY!

Carla & Bruce- I failed to mention my sister ran for Rodeo Queen in 1970 and my cousin Carol Ann (Steven's sister) was Rodeo Queen in 1976 at age 15.

When my Daddy passed away in July 2004 the Legion honored my Dad by dedicating all four rodeo performances to him that year in recognition to his lifelong years of service as a Legionaire and Rodeo activator. It was then, that Bob McSpadden ask me and my sister to carry the Legion and American flags in the parade and rodeo as part of the dedication, so my debut was extremely heartfelt and that is why it remains such an honor for me to have the privilege.

Lavanna- Thank you for the birthday wishes. I hope your birthday on Saturday will bring you great happiness and the year ahead good health!

I think September 1951 was a busy month for the Vinita Hospital. Dr. Olson delivered me and I think the hospital bill was something like $64. My mother still has the receipt. I had so much hair, the nurses had it combed and in a blue bow, when they brought me to Mother for the first time.

Do you think any of us were in the nursery together?

HI JUDY,- DR. MARKS DELIVERED ME, I HAD ALOT OF PROBLEMS WHEN I WAS BORN, I COULDN'T LAY COMPLETELY FLAT OR I WOULD TURN BLUE AND STOP BREATHING. MY SISTER TOLD ME THEY ALWAYS HAD TO LAY ME AT AN ANGLE FOR THE LONGEST TIME. THEN I COULDN'T KEEP ANY KIND OF MILK DOWN, AND I WAS LOOSING WEIGHT RAPIDLY. THEY WERE WORRIED I WAS GOING TO DIE. THEN ONE DAY MOM WAS AT THE STORE AND PICKED UP A CAN OF CARNATION CONDENSED MILK AND FED IT TO ME, I KEPT IT DOWN AND THAT SAVED MY LIFE. THEN, WHEN I WAS 2 YEARS OLD AND WE WERE STILL LIVING ON THE FARM, MY MOTHER WAS CANNING GREEN BEANS AND I WAS SUPPOSED TO BE NAPPING, BUT I GOT UP AND TODDLED AROUND AND FELL INTO THE SCALDING HOT WATER FROM THE GREEN BEANS AND WAS BADLY BURNED. I ALMOST DIED FROM THAT TOO. THANK GOD I DON'T REMEMBER ANY OF IT. I HAVE SEVERE SCARS OVER MY SIDES AND BACK. MY SKIN WAS A GREEN COLOR UNTIL I WAS ABOUT 8, THEN IT TURNED BACK TO WHITE.
WE PROBABLY WERE IN THE HOSPITAL AT THE SAME TIME. I KNOW THAT CHARLENE TUCKER'S MOTHER AND MY MOTHER WERE IN THE SAME ROOM WHEN I WAS BORN, AND CHARLENE AND I WERE BORN ON THE SAME DAY. I FOUND THAT OUT WHEN I ASKED MY MOTHER IF SHE KNEW CHARLENE, AND SHE TOLD ME THE STORY OF US BEING BORN ON THE SAME DAY.

Lavanna- Boy, did you have a rough start! So glad you were able to overcome it all.

I'm sorry to tell you that Charlene Tucker Manley passed away a couple of years ago from throat cancer. She was married and had two daughters, one of which has since had twin daughters. Charlene's mother Eveyln Tucker is doing just fine and lives in Vinita.

My Mother was in the same room as Deloris Newman from Centralia, so Mother was well acquainted with her. She had a daughter named Marcia born on September 22nd. I would get to see Marcia when we were growing up when we went to my Grandma and Granddad Chaney's in Centralia.

I pulled a good one too, when I was the age of two. I wanted a drink and Mother was feeding my baby sister Patricia, so I thought I could get it myself and I climbed up onto the cabinet shelf and turned the cabinet full of dishes over on top of me. Thank goodness I was not hurt. I know I scared the daylights out of my Mother.

JUDY- THANKS FOR THE WELL WISHES OF A HAPPY BIRTHDAY. PROBABLY WON'T DO ANYTHING SPECIAL, MY 2 BOYS IN OHIO ARE PLANNING ON COMING UP TO NY TO VISIT ME SOMETIME THIS MONTH. THEY TRY TO DO IT EVERY YEAR. THEY ONLY LIVE FIVE HOURS AWAY. I HOPE THEY CAN ARRANGE IT, I MISS THEM. WE HAVE A GOOD TIME WHEN THEY COME, WE LIKE TO PLAY SCRABBLE AND RUMMY. THE LAST TIME THEY TOOK ME TO A MOVIE BUT IT WAS A HORRIBLE MOVIE AND THEY WERE SO EMBARRASSED THAT THEY TOOK THEIR MOTHER TO IT. THE MOVIE WAS RATED PG BUT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN RATED X FOR THE CONTENT. I FELT LIKE CLIMBING UNDER THE SEAT. THEY KEPT APOLOGIZING TO ME ALL EVENING.

Happy birthday to all the 58 year old kids! There must have been something in the water system 9 months before! Whatever it was, it produced very good kids!
Judy -I never knew your personal history with the rodeo and I'm so thankful for the honors you (and your family) have received there! I'm going to try and make it next year and will be watching for you! You definitely need to be involved in the queen program! Between the rodeo and your birthday - it's a busy couple of weeks! I hope this is a wonderful year for you!
Lavanna - Hope the entire year is as nice for you as the Birthday was! Sound like you can put that bookcase to good use! I like board games too and if I can catch anyone to play, I get embarrassingly into it!
Bruce - Have a great birthday! Make some more pictures for posterity in that hat you were pictured in (at the BBQ). Your a young looking 58!
I'm a little on overload work wise. But I found it interesting to know how your parents came to Vinita, Bruce. Did your sisters relocate to Texas to be close to you? I didn't know that your grandfather had the Hay and Grain. I'll try to check in earlier next weekend and tell how my mom and dad ended up in Vinita. But for now - anyone reading this - how did your family settle in Vinita?

Connie - Hope you had a great celebration - 58 is an important one! Hope your daughter bought you more jewelery - she has great taste!
Carla - What years were your aunts Rodeo Queens?

BRUCE- HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, I KNOW WITH THAT BEAUTIFUL FAMILY YOU'LL HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY. I USED TO GO TO THE HAY AND GRAIN WITH MY MOM AND DAD ALL THE TIME BUT I DIDN'T KNOW YOUR FAMILY OWNED IT.

Janis Ann (Jan) Dirickson (Marshall)

Sorry I missed so many opportunities to wish everyone best wishes on their speical day. So now I say. Happy Birthday to ALL. I guess my folks were busier a little earlier than most of the class, so I'm a little older, wiser, smarter, OLDER, Wrinkleier (not sure about that spelling, OK not smarter). It's not as much fun to be older than the rest of you as it was when I turned 16. This morning it was 40 with the wind chill it made it in the 20's. Fall is definitely here. Have a great day, Bruce I don't suppose that fine wine had Boone or Annie anywhere on it's label?

All -I just got out of the hospital yesterday after some surgery to remove a stricture of my small intestine. This is just a repeat performance of a chronic ailment that has been plaguing me since my senior year in high school, although probably no one remembers it. I had to learn all over again, that if the hospital food doesn't kill you, the TV will (although I wasn't able to eat for almost 5 days). Most of the time I was zonked out on pain killers after the surgery. My surgeon was happy to report that I have an awful lot of my intestine left, so I shouldn't have to worry about not being able to get fat. Right now, I'm not asking for any prayers for my recovery - it's either going to happen or not. However, I would really appreciate some good wishes.

Mary Ann Johnson (Null)

Paul - You have my wishes and my prayers. I don't watch much tv - so I know I would be undone if that is all that I had to do. I don't think that you have to worry about getting fat at this point in life, since you haven't already. I do request that you get that 10 (or 20) pounds lighter camera before our next reunion (since I saw the sow in the black and white sun dress chowing down on the watermelon in the last video)! OH my Gosh! Oh well. Do take care to not overdo in the healing process!

Paul- You are most certainly in my thoughts and prayers for a speedy and successful recovery. I'm sure you have been through hell and back during your crisis. I have always heard that a hospital stay will get you faster than the illness! So try to stay out of there! Get lots of rest, you will need it more than you realize during your recovery.
