Mary Ann- I did get an education at ESH. Probably equivalent to a PhD! I too worked in the Recreation Department, and I HAD to take turns with the other Rec employees in "opening" the dance (on Monday & Friday nites 7-9 pm), which consisted of getting up on the stage with a microphone in front of the 400+ people to welcome them, then when the dance concluded two hours later, get back on the stage and call out each individual building to leave the gym. I was still terribly shy, and this in itself was a life changing moment in my life and a real learning experience. Throughout the dance I also played the records (45's) and danced with the patients. We also had to wear a dress to the dance, as this was before pants were suitable wear for women! The patients favorite record to dance to was, "Harper Vally PTA," by Jeanne C. Riley. They "all" got up and danced to that record! I worked with a wonderful Rec crew the first few years and we had great time together, we are still life-long friends.

Mary Ann -- I can tell you that St. Francis does not have an acceptable program. We have already checked that one out. They want you to go to NeuroSpecialist and it is no place for a 13 year old. Don't know about St. John's. I will know a little later exactly how much therapy they project will be needed. Any assistance you can give is appreciated.

Betty - I learned a long time ago that the medical community tends to be very tight. Talk to doctors and/or nurses that you know and have them either recommend or check with their colleagues on who and where there is a reputable rehab program. Doctors and programs which have good reputations are generally well known in the medical community. A secondary path is to search google.

Judy - My brother-in-law danced with the patients too. I think he got a lot of come ons and I imagine you did too. I have some vague memories of going to a dance or 2 I'm sure when my sister was dating my future brother-in- law. But I think there was a country and western band that may have played there and the leaders first name was "Emmit" I think. I remember the band wearing "fringed" western shirts.

I would like to thank all of you for your support during my recuperation from surgery on 9/14. My medical leave is ending and I am returning to work tomorrow, which I am not terribly excited about. I thought that the recovery would be pretty easy, but the terrible truth was that it turned out to be much more difficult that I had ever thought. I guess when you get up in years, things just aren't as easy as they were 20 years ago (when I had the same surgery).

Do any of you make noises when you get up out of a chair, or out of the car? I swear I'm surprised at the sounds I now hear coming out of ME.

JAN- WHATEVER NOISES THAT ESCAPES OUR BODY THE DR. SAID IS NORMAL FOR OUR AGE. IT'S FUNNY WE NEVER REMEMBER ANY OF THIS ABOUT OUR PARENTS WHEN THEY WERE THIS AGE.WE NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT GETTING "OLD" YEARS BACK BUT NOW LOOK AT US!

Jan- Isn't that called flatulence?

Carla- HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Carla Ray Williams (Yocum)

The only sounds I make are moans and groans from my pain as I try to drag my body where it needs to go. It is actually my muscles!! Fibermyalgia! I don't mind getting old...it is the aches and pains I hate!

Paul-Good luck on going back to work! Remember not to over do things!

Steve-Thanks for remembering my up coming Birthday! I have been thinking you were on a trip. I haven't see anything from you in a while. I have been going crazy over the storyline on Y&R!!! I am so mad over Nick and Sharon! I hate Ashley and the whole fake pregnacy storyline! I am glad Nikki and Victor are getting closer!
Billy is a selfish pig! Chloe better let him go and move on to Chance!!! What is all the fake art/real art???? I am tired of that too!

Carla- I think that we are going to see a big change in Victor. I also think that Chance will lose his virginity to either Cloe or Rafe. Hopefully Cloe!!!

Well I guess I did! I see I need to proof-read my messages. Steve's reference reminds me of an cute email I got this week. A woman sitting on a chair (much more mature than any of us) telling about her experience with directions for a new deodorant and she says " The directions said remove cap and push up bottom, well I can't walk very well, but when I fart the room smells pretty good..
Happy Birthday Carla, enjoy your special day..

Jan ~ this is Susan...last night my book club went to the launch of a new book 'The Pioneer Woman Cooks'. It is written by Ree Drummond, who lives on huge cattle ranch in Pawhuska. She has a website, www.thepioneerwoman.com where she blogs about her life on a working cattle ranch. It is a great award-winning blog, and her recipes and photography are fabulous...I think you would find her a kindred spirit! If you get on her site, she writes about the fans that 'tail gated' to her book launch, and how someone brought her a glass of red wine...that was US !!! Hope you are having a wonderful Fall !!! Carla Happy Birthday! 58 isn't so bad, I've been here for 6 months now. You were really a young first grader! You were always so petite - I bet you were tiny in the first grade!

Jan - As to sounds we make - when you live alone, I think you make more sounds - verbally- just to hear some noise. When I went to California with my daughter and son-in-law this summer, he drove from 7 AM to 2 AM, we rented a room for four hours - I'm not kidding - got up at 6 AM and were back on the road til about 9:00 PM. My daughter said I was moaning that night (not in ecstacy, Steve). I can't even spell "ecstacy" - guess I've lived alone to long. My body could not unbend after that many hours in the back seat of a van, but I didn't realize that I was "sighing" out loud. That's an old person thing! In general, I do think most of us look younger than our parents at this age, but I've heard that you might fool mother nature, but you'll never fool father time. This is not a good conversation for Carla to be reading.

I was home today with "pink eye" and at my age! That's one of the fun things that can happen when you work with little kids!

Paul - Do take it easy as you resume work, you may need more sleep at night for a while longer.

Mary Ann - Pink eye!!! My boss is a doctor. When one of the doctors we employ came in for a meeting and had pink eye, she laughed and told him that the diseases parents catch from their kids build their immune system. So, just think, those kids are making you better....;)

Mary Ann- You sound like a speech teacher rather than a math teacher. Carla just turned 59. Sorry Carla. You were always petite even though you were older than most of us. Were you just 'red-shirted' that first year?

10/29/09 11:06 AM #1060

Carla Ray Williams (Yocum)

Steve-Thanks for setting everyone straight! I am going to be 59 on Monday! I was the oldest in our class! I was born one day after the cut off of November 1st!!! They would not let me go to school until the next year!!!! I was devastated! I cried so hard! I am glad now because I fit into our class much better than the one before us!

I hope Chance chooses Chloe! Will Sharon ever find out her baby is alive? She has had so much sadness...I want her to have a happy life! They say if you have a heart transplant you take on the personality of the donor! Are we ready for a Victor that is kind hearted?

Thank you for all the Birthday wishes! I am going out to dinner with Bill, Nicky and Brad, Bennett, Brayen, Clay, Cindy, Lance and my Daddy. I just have to figure out where we should go. That is the hard part!

Susan, thanks so much for the information. I will look for Mrs. Drummonds blog as soon as I get off here. Actually the Drummonds are old family friends. Mom was from Pawhuska and born there as well as Chuck and I. Yea Osages. Living on a ranch and living that lifestyle never leaves you. Thanks again.
Mary Ann, Old people sounds take no effort at all to produce: all you have to do is open you mouth or move.

10/29/09 09:18 PM #1062

Mary Ann Johnson (Null)

Hey noise maker - I mean Jan - is this the Drummonds from the BIG ranch? I'm impressed.
Susan - I think I will tell my son-in-law's mother about that book. She and her husband ranch in Montana and it is a totally different life style. When my daughter went to meet the family before they were married, she told about what a fantastic cook her mother-in-law was - pulling something out of the oven every time she turned around. Stephanie felt very inept around this very "ept" person. Even more so, when at the breakfast table, Laura looked out and noticed a calf or lamb (one of Ole McDonald's animals) hung up on a barbed wire fence. She commented that she would have to go out and sew up the animal right after breakfast. I never learned how to do that in Ms. Mitchell's home ec class!

Carla - I did not know that you are 59 - wow, I'll ask for advice now! How is it?

ALL - The noise maker has been sending me pictures of mature, fat women and I'm not so excited about this age process when I see the possibilities! Well, I guess I'll just decorate up a little more.

Steve - I do speech therapy (not math), but little kids have a way of hugging or taking my hand when we walk - no matter how dirty or sticky it is, I just can't refuse. I'm just a grandma who can't say "no". I do use a lot of hand sanitizer!

Paul - I had pink when I was 5 and I don't think I ever had it again until now! If the Dr. got it, I don't feel so badly. Everything cleared up really fast, except the redness. I look like I've been on a 3 day drunk!

Carla- I think your parents were being kind to you when they told you the cut off date had passed. My sister Patricia was also born on November 2, 1953, and that was the "actual" cut off date for entering 1st grade. My sister was truly the youngest in her class. Steven's first born son Cody was also born on November 2, 1976.

ALL- DID ANYONE HAPPEN TO NOTICE THAT MARYANN PUT HER MESSAGE ON THE FORUM IN TWICE? MARY ANN- THAT TRULLY SHOWS YOUR AGE. WE ALL FORGET OR JUST THINK WE DID SOMETHING WHEN WE DIDN'T OR DID AND JUST DID IT AGAIN.

STEVE- VERY FUNNY, I SEE WE HAVE A COMEDIAN IN THE CLASS. I'M SUFFERING WITH BURSITIS IN MY HIPS RIGHT NOW. NOT PLEASANT, VERY PAINFUL. MUST BE THE CHANGE OF WEATHER CAUSING IT, I CAN HARDLY WALK.I GUESS WE ALL ARE SHOWING OUR AGE OUR BODIES ARE JUST WEARING OUT.

Lavanna - Thanks for letting me know that I screwed up. I only do that 7 or 8 times a day! Sometimes I think I need an attendant - just to check that I'm wearing matching shoes etc.
All - For fun,who will share one their most embarrassing moments in life? I will, but only if someone else does first. No sad humiliating stories - just funny ones. I seem to have a lot of those.
