Lavanna M. Hawkins (Morgan)

SORRY MARY ANN I DIDN'T BRING IT TO EVERYONE'S ATTENTION BECAUSE YOU MESSED UP I JUST THOUGHT IT WAS CUTE THAT YOU SENT IT TWICE. I BET MY MOST EMBARRASING MOMENT WILL TOP THE LIST. THIS HAPPENED ABOUT 8 YEARS AGO WHEN I FIRST MOVED HERE. MY FRIEND BOB LIVED OUT IN THE COUNTRY AND I WAS TRYING TO BACK UP IN HIS DRIVEWAY. WELL IT HAD SNOWED THE NIGHT BEFORE AND I COULDN'T FIND THE DRIVEWAY BUT I STARTED TURNING MY WHEELS TO BACK UP, WELL I ALMOST RAN INTO HIS WELL AND HIS TRAILER THEN WHEN I FINALLY PULLED UP AND TRIED IT AGAIN I BACKED UP SLOWLY AND GOT STUCK IN THE SNOW. WELL I THOUGHT IT WAS THE SNOW I GOT STUCK IN. I WENT INSIDE AND GOT A SHOVEL AND STARTED TO DIG MY WHEELS OUT WHEN THE SHOVEL HIT SOMETHING METAL. I DIDN'T GET STUCK IN THE SNOW AT ALL I PLOWED DOWN A ROAD SIGN AND THAT WAS WHAT I WAS STUCK ON AND I COULDN'T MOVE MY CAR. MY FRIEND BOB WAS STANDING IN HIS DOOR WAY LAUGHING HIS BUTT OFF WHILE I WAS TRYING TO MANEUVER MY CAR AWAY FROM THE SIGN. AFTER I GOT MY CAR MOVED HE WENT OUT AND TRIED TO PUSH IT BACK UP TO A STANDING POSITION WHILE HE WAS STILL LAUGHING.A COUPLE OF WEEKS AFTER THIS HAPPENED I WAS HAVING TROUBLE WITH MY CAR AND I TOOK IT TO THE GARAGE I TOLD THEM TO CALL WHEN THEY FOUND OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. WELL THEY CALLED ME AND TOLD ME WHAT WAS WRONG AND THEN THE GUY SAID "MA'AM DID YOU KNOW THAT YOUR MUFFLER IS JUST HANGING ON BY A THREAD?, WOULD YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW THAT HAPPENED?" I HAD TO LAUGH AT MYSELF BECAUSE IMMEDIATELY MY THOUGHTS WENT BACK TO MY CAR PLOWING DOWN THAT SIGN.

Mary Ann- My boss in the Recreation Department was Sam Seabolt (he was also your brother-in-laws). He really was the best, but we all got irritated with him from time to time. One day I came back in from the wards and walked into our office, (which was right next to Sam's) and stupidly ask whoever was sitting there, "Is the Big Cheese in?" About a second later Sam stuck his head around the door and said, "Yes." Was I embarrassed!

Did anyone go Trick-or-Treating? I wish I had. I would love to have a big bag of candy to eat on for the next hour or two. Remember how good the mixture of all the candy smelled? I wish I had a popcorn ball right now! And a grape or orange Pixie Stix or two!

I loved going to the school carnival in the old gym. Those were wonderful days. The school doesn't do anything like that now. Look what they are missing.

I went Tr or Ting with my 8th grader; she had a big Party and I took the group out and bagged a load of candy. I was dressed as The Mad Hatter; a purple coat and a giant purple top hat. They all danced in our dinning room after that then they all sat down and traded candy for half an hour b/4 chatting and dancing till their folks came and picked them up.
The Horns really did kick the Pokes tonight; we're loving it here in Austin.
Lavanna, when was the last time you got those glasses checked? I can't top that but I'll see if I can come up with something. Probably something with Steve, like the time he.......no not that but maybe when he.....or was it Russell?????

All - This weekend was beautiful in Oklahoma and I got to ride my bicycle both days! I just love riding the Pathfinder here - it's like a wooded path in town!
Since Lavanna was brave, (and shared what was not funny at the moment, but is now) - I will make good on my promise! Several years ago, when all my kids were home,we stopped by the house (so everyone could go to the bathroom) and then out to lunch, after church. I was the last one to leave - every one was starving and telling me to hurry. I couldn't find where I left my dress length coat, and so I put on a car coat and out the door I went. We ate at a very full restaurant. I was the last one in the building with my family. When I got up to go to the salad bar, I looked around to see if some redecorating had been done, because I felt a draft, but didn't notice any difference in the building. I took my time, shifting from hip to hip, slowly selecting just the right veggies. After several min, one of my daughters came up to tell me something, but couldn't get the words out for laughing. Finally,on the fourth try, she was able to tell me that the whole back of my dress and slip were tucked into my pantyhose! My first thought honestly was, "what color is my underwear"? I was hoping I hadn't chosen fire engine red of hot pink that day. I shuddered as I remembered that it was a shade called "nude" - that was even worse. I stood, salad and drink in my hands, for a few seconds as I tired to process my situation. I was standing in the middle of the restaurant. I said to my daughter, "I am walking out that door and never coming back here again." I heard a voice from a booth saying "oh no you're not" - and elderly lady was trying to encourage me. After pulling my skirt out, with an audience, I went back to the table. I laughed and then I cried and laughed and cried for a few min. When the waitress came, I had to ask,"did you not notice that I had no skirt in the back, when I walked in?" - remember I was in a hip length car coat. She replied, "I just thought it was the cut of your skirt". Now I ask - exposing all of my backside - did she really think I had a slit that big in my skirt - was that a good response? Well, only me, and only in an after church, full restaurant. I do know that I sat in that booth until the restaurant was empty that day!

Judy - remembering trick or treating - that was so much fun. I remember getting popcorn balls and candy or caramel apples from some people - of course we never
worried then. I remember the gym being so crowded and fun. I didn't go trick or treating after the 6th grade, but I get some really big kids coming for candy now.

Bruce - I'm so glad that you get to enjoy your daughters - those are memories they will have forever. And if you hadn't figured it out yet, girls dance at every celebration and party. One night, my oldest was having what used to called a slumber party. At 3:00 AM, the music was getting louder and I was getting sleepier. I went in the living room to tell them to "turn it down" When I came around the corner, they were all dancing with total abandonment. My daughter had her nightshirt tucked in to her undies on one side - it must run in the family. I got so tickled at the sight of them, that I didn't say a word about the volume.

Mary Ann- Maybe this will make you feel a little better...... Living in the country offers lots of benefits, one of which is not having to wear many clothes around the house. One summer morning around three years ago I walked nude from the waist-up to the dryer to retrieve a top I was going to wear that day. The utility room is on the far end of the house and opens into the garage. I had opened the dryer and got my top out and just as I raised up in full view of the window in the door out to the garage I found I was face to face with an UPS driver who was making a delivery. I hit the floor and he hit the door leaving the garage! I don't know who was more shocked! I didn't even know anyone was on the place, usually people drive up behind the house in the driveway in full view of any window on the south side of the house. I can't even tell you what this guy looked like, and I don't know if he has ever made another delivery here, but I can tell you there hasn't been any deliveries left in or made through the garage!

I have been laughing so hard at the embarrasing moments!! I can see you guys in my mind in your moments!
My most embarassing moment was when we moved to Miami so Bill could be an assistant coach for the Golden Norsemen! He moved two weeks before the rest of us because I was 9 months preg. with our son, Clay. When he was born Nicky, Clay and I moved from Bartlesville to Miami. The head coaches wife wanted to throw a welcome party and a baby shower for us. We arrived at her house and rang the doorbell. When she opened the door our daughter Nicky (who never met a stranger in her life) said, "Hi, I'm Nicky and this is my new brother Clay. He's crying because my mommy won't let him eat on her boobie! He has a hot dog woowoo just like my daddy!!!!" Bill and I wanted to turn and run to the car...but all the people had already heard! We both wanted to die! For the rest of the season we had to put up with jokes about my first introduction to all our coaches and their wives and kids!

Judy and Carla - I just now read your stories and I'm rolling. Judy, I've heard jokes about repairmen etc, but never really knew anyone who experienced it!
Carla - When I moved to Tulsa with 2 little ones, the Pastor from a church we had visited, came to call. My youngest crawled up in my lap, as we visited. When the lovely visit was over, I walked the Pastor to the door, thankful for a clean house and an uneventful visit. As I stood in the open door, waving to the Pastor as he hurriedly left, I began to notice a breeze. Holly had busied herself, while sitting in my lap, by unbuttoning my entire blouse!
Kids will do it to you. When Stacie was 2 years old, we went to Sears looking at some appliance to purchase. All of the sudden, I noticed that Stacie had disappeared. In a panic, we spread out over the store. I found Stace a few rows over, pants down, sitting on a toilet taking care of business. Problem being it was display toilet on a busy aisle in Sears - and it wasn't just tee-tee.
Judy -I don't think anyone can top (no pun intended) that!

Well, I thought I better post something since it's been a few days since anyone posted anything, except for Jan freezing her ass off. By the way the weather here in Austin has been our usual clear with a low of 60* & high of 75* this Fall. I can't seem to cancel enough things so I can play golf everyday but I try. I'll continue to coupe the best I can, and think of you'll hunkering down for the Winter. I'd be out there today except my Isabella is running a fever and I'm taking care of her. Plus, I regripped my new used driver, and I had to take one of our bikes to the shop for a tune-up. Also, it's my day to water the lawn; so you can tell I'm tied up. Maybe I'll go pitch & chip on the front lawn; I watered it this morning. We have this radio station in Austin called KGSR that plays all my favorite tunes, the Almond Brothers just finished Melissa...I think I'll go get me a snuggle.

I think we should keep Jan posted on our weather, as she was so good to keep us aware of the Montana weather last summer! Rainy this weekend, but the last two weekends were beautiful and I logged in quite a few miles on the bike. I am supposed to be grandma again on Wednesday - Stacie is scheduled for a c-section at noon then ( unless someone delivers early and then she will be moved up that day). She will be 37 and 1/2 weeks and I am so thankful. The Dr told her most twins are born 34 to 36 weeks, so I'm thankful for the maturity time they have had, even though they are still early. My sister is also having knee replacement that day. Please keep them both in your prayers and I will let you know! Have a great week!

MARY ANN- I AM SURE YOU ARE SO EXCITED THERE IS NOTHING LIKE GRANDCHILDREN I AM SURE READY FOR SOME MORE BUT IT WILL BE AWHILE. MY OLDEST THAT HAS THE 2 KIDS JUST GOT A DIVORCE, MY MIDDLE BOY MARRIED A MUCH OLDER WOMAN, NO KIDS THERE AND MY YOUNGEST DDOESN'T EVEN HAVE A GIRLFRIEND YET. HE IS MY LOGICAL ONE WHEN I ASKED ABOUT FINDING A GIRL HE SAID " MOM, I'M GOING TO PAY OFF MY CAR, BUY ME A HOME AND THEN LOOK FOR A WIFE." SO LIKE I SAID IT WILL BE A LONG WAIT. LOL I WILL PRAY FOR YOUR SISTER AND YOUR NEW GRANDBABIES AND THERE MOTHER.

Mary Ann- Just seems like yesterday that you were telling us your daughter was expecting. Can't believe it is time for the twins to be born. How excited you must be!

Jan and Dick were in Amarillo this weekend at the Ranch Rodeo finals (their son Brett was on a competing ranch team.) I would have liked to have gone out to Amarillo last Thursday with Dean, but I couldn't leave Mother for five days so I also "got" the job of feeding the cattle and horses while he was gone. Actually I enjoy it, but I have to give Dean a hard time about it. (You know, carrying his load while he is away having fun.) We have been attending the finals for the last 10 years, but I have had to skip the last couple of years. We met Jan and Dick out there three years ago, so it was an especially nice trip. It snowed huge feather flakes that Saturday and it was beautiful, but thank goodness it melted before we traveled back home on Monday.

Steven Ray (Steve) Postier

Mary Ann- Sister? I didn't know you had a sister. I got a new knee for Christmas last year and it is GREAT. I can now sleep at nite without pain. She will love it. Congratulations on the twin grandkids. Hope things go well.

Bruce- It has been really good golfing weather here as well. Highs in the mid 50's, strong North winds, and a little mist in the air.

Jan- I would really enjoy riding fence up there now. I don't know what I would like better, riding fence or watching a freight train run over my testicles.

11/18/09 11:41 AM #1093

Janis Ann (Jan) Dirickson (Marshall)

Steve I have to agree with you, I don't know which I'd rather do.......ride fence or watch the train..I don't get to ride all that much anymore, but that other option would probably be a once in a lifetime thing I imagine..
