Charles Darryl "Chuck" Scofield (1944 - 2016)

 

 

 

 

Scofield, Charles Darryl "Chuck" 72, retired Lieutenant Colonel US Air Force, passed away on December 31, 2016. Preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Ruth Garber Scofield; niece, Mallory Scofield; and his constant companion, his dog Buster. He is survived by his son, Ryan (Emily) Scofield of Baton Rouge, LA; sister, Barbara (Joe) Scofield Pauler; nieces, Moriah McClure and Faith Gerkin of Douglass, KS; cousin, Charles Garber, Oklahoma City, OK. Chuck was born August 19, 1944 and was raised in Wichita, KS. He graduated from North High School in 1962. Shortly after his graduation he enlisted in the US Army and trained as an x-ray technician. He was stationed in San Antonio, TX and then Japan. Once discharged, he returned to Wichita and continued his training as a Registered Nurse and then became a Nurse Anesthetist. Chuck moved to Louisiana and his son Ryan was born there. When Chuck left Louisiana, he enlisted in the US Air Force and was stationed at Holloman Air Force Base near Alamogordo, NM. When he retired, he located to Springfield, MO and fell in love with the lakes and the outdoors in Missouri. Chuck returned to Wichita briefly to help take care of his mother Ruth. In 2004, Chuck returned to Missouri and permanently retired in Kissee Mills, MO on the shores of Bull Shoals Lake. He was able to enjoy the outdoors, fishing, boating, playing cards and watching sports, especially football and golf, always with his best friend and companion Buster by his side. Services for Chuck will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, January 23, 2017, at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, 5201 S. Southwood, Springfield, MO 65804. He will have full military honors and his ashes will interred in the wall. Flowers can be sent to the Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, 1947 E. Seminole St., Springfield, MO. Donations can also be made to the VFW in Wichita, KS in Chuck's name.

I didn't know Chuck very well..... He and I ended up sitting next to each other at graduation.  He was so funny....we laughed and laughed and became buds that evening. Blessings to his family.
