I had known Rebekah since grade school. She was a fun, quirky and interesting person and will be missed. I always enjoyed catching up with her latest news when I saw her in the years gone by. A funny story I remember concerned the school parking lot and Rebekah's car and mine. One morning, having parked my car, I noticed Rebekah backing slowly in the lot heading straight toward my car. I blew the horn frantically but to no avail. Rebekah continued backing and ran straight into the side of my car causing very obvious damage. We decided that we would not bother our parents about this and hoped they would not notice. Of course, the first thing that happened that evening was that mine did notice it. I had to call Rebekah's dad and it was dealt with in a quite civil manner with our parents having the work to do.. Rebekah and I promptly forgot about it but it is still funny how we thought we could manage to avoid dealing with it and no one would notice. Magical thinking that belongs in the teenage world I guess.. anyway, it is too bad she is no longer here for so many reasons, life is sad when our friends and family are so vulnerable and if one thinks about the finality, it becomes all the more necessary to be thankful for each day we have with our loved ones and know one day we will be reunited.
It's hard to sum up the love you feel for someone. Words are simple fare for emotions that fill your heart. In high school Rebekah was a beautiful soul who welcomed me when most other girls didn't. She made me feel like one of the gang, rather than like the interloper I was, transferring in and out of schools every one to two years.
Our paths continued to cross as our destinies played out -- first in college, later after we were both married and had careers, and then thankfully at the reunions.
She lived a full and courageous life. I know we'll cross paths again in another life. Light & Love Always!
