You're welcome. Sorry about the poor wrapping, but just didn't have the stuff with me. Anyway, Karen and I saw that and thought it was unique. They had different records, but didn't really know your taste, but who could resist "I Got You Babe", lol. Just wanted to know that Karen and I were thinking of you while we were in South Carolina, :)

Hey Ya'll,

Tabb is playing Grafton tomorrow (Friday) night at Bailey Field, 7:30pm. I'm taking Daniel and the neighbors kid next door. If anyone can make it out I'll be sittin on the Tabb side of course. In case it's really crowded call me on my cell. The number is on my profile.

Hey Louie, when they play York I will unfortunately be sitting on The York side. My son is on the varsity team there. I tried to wear orange one year, but got some stange looks, so I go with the status quo..... Hope to see some of you there. I am off to New Kent tonight to see my son play. Then off to OBX for the weekend for some R & R. Talk to everyone soon!

Jimmy,

So you like the Nags Head area? It was neat to see my father transition to that area over a 20 year period. At first he went every other weekend, and now he lives there full time.

I visited him in Nags Head about a month ago. Every night when I went to sleep he'd call his girlfriend up and sneak out to her place.

This must be what is meant by the circle of life. Last time there was anybody in our family sneaking out of the house, it was me while at THS!

Bruce - great photo - saw 18 shot 0 - maybe you should have brought a bigger gun in case the bow didn't work - lol - One question if you kill an Elk and your above the tree line 3 peaks away from the truck - how do u get it down the mountain???? Gravity and a parachute?

On another note my wife flew to El Paso for labor Day and we went to a town in NM called Ruidoso which is at the 9k ft elevation and I met a guy there who bartends every summer and is a Big Game Hunting guide in the winter ($3k per trip) that will pay the beer tab and he showed me pics of the Elks, Rams and Bears he gets - they aren't like any deers at home they were the size of a moose!

It's funny how Bruce and I were both looking for Elk on the same weekend - check it out - click on the "My Elk" link below.

Gene,

We document all our hunts. Give me an email address and I'll send the full story of this hunt when it is finalized later this week or next week.

The closest we got to "sticking" an elk on this hunt was near opening morning. We spotted four bulls about five hundred yards away right after sending out a cow call. We scrambled to set up a spotting scope to score the elk and get their exact bedding locations. While doing this three bulls appeared to our left about 150 yards away and caught us completely off guard. While focusing on those nearby elk, another one came in behind us to within 25 yards and surprised the hell out of us when he scented us and shook the ground as he beat feet away from us.

As far as packing out elk goes, on a tiny one (~500 lbs, as seen in your picture) you can quarter it and carry the quarters out on a pack frame on your back. For more average sized bulls (~600 to 750 lbs) you have to take the rear quarters out on sleds, with the rest on your back. The monsters (~1000 lbs) have to be deboned in the field to get them out.

In this hunt, we had an ATV at the ready back in camp that could access all the hunting areas. I once dated a woman for 3.5 years and she was convinced that I only dated her to have access to her horses for packing out purposes. Women are so perceptive!

The real hunt for me will be the weekend of 13 September when muzzleloading season starts. Last year I got two new hunters within 30 yards of the biggest bull I've ever seen (in the wild or on a wall somewhere). One hunter got "buck fever" and didn't shoot, so the animal got away. We've scouted this bull and he's still right there in the same avalanche chute. Only catch is that there is a large bear right in the same area, so we'll have to watch our backside. Stay tune for another two weeks!

As far as big guns go, I developed a 50BMG load a couple months ago for a friend to use next year in the Craig, CO area. This guy complains that the elk stand at 600 yards and just stare at him.

Next time you're in the NM area, head North on I-25 and give me a call.

Lou,
I agree...
Although belated - Politics and Religion should be taboo.

I would not clasify my cylcing as daring - least not comparied to some folks I know. I feel being in the right place at the wrong time was something I did alot.

Nice Hunt info Bruce ...
I have never done alot of hunting. I did learn to use a compound bow and can shoot a weapon with reasonble accuracy. I just never took the time to go out in the field but a few times.
That sounds like a great adventure though.

Hey Bruce,

Yes I love it there. I may even look at moving south after retirement. You never know? I caught a great sunburn but had a great time with our friends. I am out the door now on the road right now (Atlanta), hope to be home soon.

Jimmy,

If you get this while on the road in the Atlanta area, look up Susan Hodge (now Harmon), class of '78. Susan works for the Delta airlines IT outfit in the Atlanta area, and lives down in Peach Tree City. Her email is

Peach Tree City
I just had to comment on the highways of the area.
I lived in Atlanta area for about 4 years and never could get the hang of all the various Peach Tree roadways. It was very confusing indeed.
Loved it there but work moved me on to other places.

It is so different to drive that area. It makes for a very good adventure to and from work. The only comparison here is how the bridge tunnel gets these days. Plus, I was there in the 80's, can’t imagine how bad it is now to get around.

Steven,

The roadways in PTC are a signature of that area. The most remarkable part of the PTC roadways are the golf cart roads. They are everywhere. And, everyone has a golf cart.

They even have cops who ride around in golf carts modified with police packages. I used to dread the thought of one of them stopping me from a golf cart and then I'd be forced to make a smart comment about their pursuit vehicle.

Bruce,
I was in Marrietta, Ga. and commuting to Stone Mountian area. Most of my note was refering to the beltway and the unbelivable amount of peachtree streets in Atlanta proper.

My step daugter lives in Smithfield and the neighborhood they live has lot of carts also. Not exactly designed for it like PTC is but all the neighbors know one another and every weekend they all gather in one place or another. Golf carts alow they to commute around the hood is some rather odd ones. THey have one with a 8in lift kit, chrome rims and monster truck tires, (sized to scale of course).

Hey folks,

Many of you from Mill Cove, Windy Point etal remember my Mom. Many of you attended parties at Bruton avenue, Lochaven etc.... Saw her at first Wards, then Lowes.
She spoke of each of you each time she saw you.

She aint doin well. She has gone through a tremendous time, and the future is not bright at all. IMHO, If we celebrate one more christmas, it will truly be heaven sent.

If you want, send a get well card to:

Hey Tommy, Sorry to hear that your Mom isn't doing so well. I'm not a card sending type of person but I do believe in the power of prayer. I'll be sure to include your Mom in my daily prayers as well as you and your family as you deal with the stress and uncertainty.

Hey Gene, I can't speak for anyone else but September was a busy month for me. My whole career has specialized in securing and performing government contracts and Septemeber is when the gov. dumps their remaining funds. It's use it or lose it. We were somewhat uncertain what the end result would be regarding the year end dump of funding, however it was much better than anticipated. We did loose the Bethel Youth Center bid. The low bid was 4.1M and ours was 4.3M.

We definitely need to get busy on the missing classmates list. I've talked to a bunch of people about the website and haven't seen them log in yet. Like they say, "You can lead a horse to water". If everyone would take the time to pick one person to find we could nearly double the log in count in a short time.

Hey, I also want to fill everyone in on the Tabb Middle School game yesterday against New Kent. Tabb won 30 to 20 and the team was lead by Jake Brown who scored all 4 of Tabb's Touchdowns. Yes, Jake Brown son of our own Billy Brown. Billy sure was one proud Dad.

Let's get busy,
Lou

Hi all. September was busy for me also. I was away for work for over three weeks. Anyway I am back now and went to the Tabb / York Football game last night. What a game it was. Unfortunatley Tabb lost to York 48 - 49 in triple overtime. It was ok though since my son plays for York. It was a great game! See everyone soon.

I just uploaded a picture of a co-worker's son. This guy was bow hunting and got mauled by a small grizzley. He was saved by the luckiest bow shot ever from his father.

If anyone would like the full story, along with a lot of other pictures, then email me. Warning: Some of the other pictures are a bit grusome.

I leave in a few hours for a weekendof hunting, so any replies would come early next week.

I'll also include some details of a black bear encounter about three weeks ago. This is more humorous though.
