of Silverdale

March 8, 1956

to Dec. 10, 2012

Son, brother and friend, Mark S. Hansen, 56, of Silverdale, died unexpectedly at home from complications of diabetes and congestive heart failure. He was born in Moscow, Idaho to Roy and Bonnie (St. Cyr) Hansen.

Graduating from West High School in 1974, he began a career as a chef, honing his skills at cooking in several restaurants in Kitsap County with a long time loyalty to the Capt. K's chain. From about 1990 to 2000, he took his expertise to the opportunity of being a manager/chief steward for NOAA. In the course of his employ of at least three ships, he sailed extensively foreign, intercoastal or coastwise ocean voyages, visiting many ports of call and countries. He achieved certificates and he received the Antarctica Service Medal of the USA from the National Science Foundation, awarded by the Secretary of the Navy for five tours to Antarctica to his credit.

Retiring on a disability, he made his home at Ridgetop and worked part-time at the gas market. He enjoyed reading, movies, video gaming and his beloved cat, Kinky.

Survivors also include his parents and a sister, Michelle Lyman (Bruce) of Bremerton. He was preceded in death by his brother, Michael in 2004.

A final "bon voyage," Mark. You are loved and missed. Rest in peace.
