In September I went to Il. to my 55th class reunion and had a great time.At the dinner someone told me if I stayed around until the following Friday I might be able to get my 1940 Ford in the high school home coming parade seeing that I was my 1960s high school car.I got in touch with the guy in charge and he said because it was my high school car of the 60s that I could lead the thing. What an honor.

On that Friday staying at my daughter Brenda's house I got off to a late start.Going down Rt.31 I noticed my gas gauge was on empty and not wanting to run out leading the parade and be the laughing stock of the whole town I decided to fill up. I pulled in to the first gas station I found and put the nozzle in the tank and got back in the car watching the gas gauge going up and looking at my watch I left the gas station in haste without finishing the job.

Getting to the high school too late to be in the lead they put me at the end of the parade. I thought until I saw the lights. Not good. The cop was a nice guy and was going to let me off easy until I told him I didn't do it. Another bad day followed. I guess at the age of 74 I still haven't learned to keep my big mouth shut.

Two weeks later I decided to drive my 40 Ford to Florida to show it off and to give my daughter Karen and my grandsons Chandler and Chase a ride. The three of us met and had dinner together and I thought it was time to give the boys a ride. We didn't go a hundred feet through the parking lot and twenty feet out on Martin Luther King Boulevard and 8th Av. when we heard a large bang and the car stopped moving. Another bad day or should I say night. Thank God I have AAA towing that I have not used since I started driving my 40 again since I rebuilt it over the last ten years. Chandlers dad came to pick him up and Chase's dad called 911 and told them where we were, that was a relief for me as the cops stood guard until my hot rod was on the flat bed tow truck and getting the HELL out of there.

I still have many more trips planed in years coming but its hard driving a car with your fingers crossed holding on the steering wheel and shifting my six speed transmission.

Now we are in to the 9th day of 2017 and nothing bad has happen to me yet. Hoping every one has a good 2017.
