Andrea Klingner

I retired from teaching in 2006. After Loretto our family lived in Iowa City, IA (real estate) for a couple years. We returned to KC and I began teaching at St. Paul's Episcopal Day School. I taught first and second grades there for 22 years. I believe that the curriculum at the Loretto was ahead of its time.

I taught five years, 2 years in South Pod and 3 years in West Pod, covering 1975-1980. The first year I started, son Michael was in North Pod with Mrs. Bagby (his only year at Loretto) and Wendy came a year later in West Pod.
I taught with Maureen Cooney, Kathy Chavers, later with Karen Fried (MacDonald), Judy Jackson, Sally Turman, and Linda Brown.
I loved telling Halloween stories in the graveyard, Friday afternoons in the woods finding crawdaddies in the stream, and discovering the beaver pond, in spite of the poison ivy. Teaching an animal tracks course in the snow with Sister Susan was chilly and fun. Allowing students to have choices in what classes they took was unique to Loretto and I loved that! The bathtub and loft to read in were very popular. The Lower School environment was always happy and motivating.
