Hints for Joining via Zoom

We are using Zoom for our virtual meetings.

  1. Please inform us at least two days in advance of the meeting so that we can put you the attendance list. We will send you an email message that contains the link to join the party. You just have to click on the link.
  2. Be prepared before you show up. You may wish to check the internet to see how to connect to Zoom.
  3. You will have to input your name after signing in. That name will appear below your picture on the Zoom page. Remember, we graduated 62 years ago and our memories may be a little dodgy. So that people can recognize you, use your full name (e.g. “Bill Wedley”, not simply “Bill”). If your name has changed via marriage, please include your maiden name (e. g. Jo Ann (Mitchell) Wedley, not Jo Ann Wedley).
  4. If you want to say something, act as though you are back in school. Raise your hand, so that our host can see on the screen that that you want to say something.

Some hints for join.

  1. Once on Zoom call, only one person should speak at a time. If you want to listen but not talk, there is a microphone symbol at the bottom left of the screen that you can click to mute your mike. If you want to speak, re-click the mike to return it to active status. During the meeting, our host may mute mikes if too many people are attempting to speak at one time.
  2. Various events can be pre-arranged for the meeting. If you have a song to sing, a poem to read, a picture to show, a painting to display or a story to tell, please tell us beforehand. We will weave your request into our party agenda.
  3. Your partner or significant other is invited to join the party on the same connection as yours. If your partner joins, make sure you sign in with your name first and your partner’s name second (e.g. Ed Jackson and Anne Jackson).
  4. Clear the clutter out of the background if you do not want it displayed. As well, make sure you have good lighting, particularly of yourself. Poor lighting yields poor video.
  5. Although not essential, it is useful to have the Zoom app downloaded to your device before the meeting starts. If not downloaded beforehand, don’t worry.  The join process will prompt you through the process.
