Jim D. Little was born April 24, 1943 in Winters, TX. His family moved to Austin in 1953. Jim graduated from Austin McCallum High School in 1961, served the US Air Force from 1962 to 1966 and graduated from University of Texas Dental School in 1971. He had a thriving dental practice in Austin for 31 years. In 2004, he moved to Kentucky to follow family and pursue the thoroughbred horse business. Jim died after a long battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy on February 2, 2011 at home in Lexington, KY. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Leslie Johnston, sons John and Bill, John's wife Laurie, grandchildren Leanne, Jennifer, Daniel and Anna, brother Bob and sisters Wanda McNeill, Loyce Stanley and Anne Davis. Jim had fierce independence, incredible wisdom and a wonderful wit. He worked hard and played hard and tended to mix the two. Jim had a gift of open, heart-felt communication with straightforward, independent thought which was strong in nature but distinctly not self-serving. His personality was central to his successes in business and his widespread, long-lasting circle of friends. Jim's funeral will be held Saturday, February 12, 2011, 3:30 p.m. at Cook Walden Capital Parks Funeral Home, Pflugerville, TX. The family requests with gratitude that any contributions be sent to UK Sanders Brown Center, 800 S. Limestone, Lexington, KY 40536.

Jim was one of my best friends all these years and I always admired him for his wit , intelligence, fair play a never ending laugh. He and Leslie were also friends of my parents and thet enjoyed his communication with them over the years. He was a great dentist but he never fixed my front tooth he broke out during football eventhough he was my dentist until he retired. I will always remember him and already miss him . Good luck Jim in that new world and I am sure you will make many more new friends. Will always miss you, Glen Kallman

It is with great sadness to hear of Jim's passing. I have known Jim since our early teens and he was always up to something. He had a wit and charm that made you smile when he walked in the room. Jim was also our family Dentist until he and Leslie moved to Kentucky. We truly missed visiting with he and Leslie on our visits to his office.
I have this feeling there's one more star up in the sky tonight. And even though it's far away, it's brightness and warmth still reach us here to make the night a little less dark.
May Jim's memories help his family get through the tough times ahead and may they know that our prayers and thoughts are with them.

I was in school with Jim from Brentwood--Lamar--and McCallum. We lived one block over from him. Several years after Carolyn and I moved from Austin we were at her family's farm in Thorndale visiting one weekend and our 7/8 son had a front tooth knocked out. We were able to make contact with Jim and he meet us at his office on a Saturday afternoon got a temp. crown in place and told us he would have his office staff mail us a bill on Monday. We never got that bill.

Jim was a great guy, smart, witty and always fun to be around. Jim and I were friends since junior high. Enjoyed playing football with him. Saw him professionally and thought he was a great dentist. He will missed by us all.
