Dale,
Since Becky has been covered by her employer's insurance, there is a certain length of time to get on Medicare even though over 65. So, as long as it is done within the acceptable time period (Special Enrollment Period), the penalty will not apply. I have been retired for a number of years and have been on my wife's (Pat) insurance plan at her work. Pat is retiring in June so I will be going on Medicare next month. Becky - I went to the Social Security Office this past week and, as Dale and Greg Hackney said, they are very helpful. If you would like, give me a call at 979-299-7187 and I can give you a bit of information. I'm certainly no expert, but with some investigation and help from Candy Sullivan Silcott's huband John, I know a little bit.
