Alice Day (Smith)

I can't even tell you how many times Mr. Huebel kicked me out of the theatre for talking. I'll never forget his flashlight shining in my row. Too bad someone won't come in there and refurbish it. Yes, Gerry Sue, we could get in for .10 and then it was .25 and we thought that was just horrible. I could walk from my house to the movie theatre in 5 mins.

Margaret Dubois (Ammons)

HL and I both have our rings in my jewelry box.

I remember going to the Lake Theater, getting in for .25
and having a quarter to spend at the concession stand.
Coke wsa .10 and popcorn was .10. My youngest brother
used to come around and bum the nickle off of the three of us to buy candy. How many people remember seeing all the Beach Blanket and Gidget movies there?

Alice, I remember lost lake behind your house somewhere and we were scared to death to go back there. Not sure where it went maybe that's now called Shy Pond- it was so great to be able to go out and play until after dark and not worry, but boy how it has changed these days. I'm having a blast trying to remember a bunch of stuff everyone else remembers- Surf drive in, wrapping houses and stuff.
I hope and pray you have a wonderful trip and bring lots of folks to know God. We look forward to a safe return for you and your ladies. God Bless You-

Wow, what memories you guys have. I think the ones who stayed in the area have an advantage. You have visuals to jog the memory.

I did love those books of tickets for the swimming pool.
I remember riding in the trunk to the drive inn. Once we got in, we didn't even want to see the movie. It was just fun sneaking in!

I don't remember getting kicked out of the movies but I did buy a childs ticket when I was in 10th grade.

Gerry Sue, I am not believing you even remember the bus stops! I loved the slumber parties except I usually got asthma and was so sick the next day.

Maybe the surgeon general needs to do some research on the relationship of altheimers(sp) and ddt. May be more cases in mosquito infested areas!

Boys and Girls this is great stuff! I remember going to Lake Drug (no offense Joy) thats where my parents had an account. With a dollar I could buy a hamburger, fries and chocolate malt and have a quarter left over for the show. I made gunpowder from chemicals I bought from LDrug...saltpeter charcoal and sulphur and tried to make my own firecrackers...oh well I am no chemist...

Freeport kids had the Showboat Theater on 2nd Street. Lots of great movies came and went through that theater. Tammy, Davie Crockett, etc. I remember that my mom wouldn't let me sit in the balcony or close to the back rows because the older kids would go there to make out. I really hated to see them close that theater. Lee's Jewelers is in that building now since their old location just down the block burned down.

Been out for the day and catching up! Freeport Junior High had 9th Grade graduation at the gym; Russell's Cafe was great; saw Gone with the Wind and The Birds at the Velasco Theater; the Alamo Drive-In was super (Olive Cokes were terrific); I still have my senior ring; our class didn't have the B'wood option - it was the class after ours; yes, I did run behind the mosquito truck; never kissed a pig (4-legged one)....whew! Okay, I'm caught up!

Kitty! Purrrfect!

Joe, that's the first I've heard that. NOT!!!!!

GA's first case of swine flu was announced today. They said it was a lady who went to Mexico and got sick.

Being a teacher of Kindergarteners and 1st graders, I'm ready for school to get out!! SNOTTY noses and fingers ALWAYS in their mouths!

Dear Classmates, Alice will be going on a mission trip to reach out to the people of Ethiopia and Uganda. Please gather hands and pray for Alice and the two other ladies that will be going with her that they will have a safe trip and the Lord will deliver the words, through them, to bring them to Christ. I know prayers work because I turned to Alice, Collene B, Margaret W., Winona, Kathy H., Cyndie C., and Beth S. when I needed prayer for my daughter. The doctors found a hugh mass and said it was the C word. When they went in to remove it, there was no cancer. All the above were in prayer for my daughter and GOD listened. Now its my turn to ask you to please turn to our Heavenly Father for Alice. God's blessing to each of you, Marian

Kitty Allison (Hilton)

Oh Marian, that was beautiful...thank you for reminding us. God's glorious blessings for Alice and her associates, and the lives they will touch. I'm so grateful to hear that your daughter is doing well.

Margaret, Beach Blanket Bingo and the Gidget movies were my life! Cindy Peace and I used to pretend for hours (and days!) that we were those actresses. It was such girly fun! I'd sure love for someone to contact Cindy about coming to the reunion. I'm sorry that I've lost contact with her.

And yes, the swine pic is priceless, isn't it?!

Marian Sahr (Bullard)

Good Morning. I have a confession......I have the most comfortable mattress in the whole world. When I lay down at night, I'm out until the alarm goes off at 5. But, last night I woke up at 2:30 from a dead sleep thinking about something. NO...not the swine flu breakout, NO....not the new cartoon of Blue Bell in the freez, but Carrol. That's right, Carrol Reneau Jeffers. In school I never had classes with, I don't think we attended the same parties and I don't think we even said a word to each other. After my daughters surgery, I was tired, nervous and a bunch of different feelings. I went to check my messages on my phone and it had died. After charging my phone, I had 11 missed messages. My very first message was from CARROL! She said that several classmates has asked her about my daughter and she wanted to know the outcome of the surgery. That call totally put me back to reality. My point.....God knew when it would be time for Carrol and I to communicate and he choose that time when I needed her the most. She took the time to look-up my profile and call me. Carrol, you will always have a special place in my heart. God Bless You. PS Freeport classmates, how lucky you were to grow-up with her!

Dee I just got off the phone with my mom and she said hi to her old Pastor..I am bringing her with me to the Sunday service. Is that something we can do

Hey Irby my mom says hi to you too she said and I faintly remember that my parents and yours birded together.. I told her about this site and we were reminiscing about the chat and old school friends

Glynn Irby

Yes, Joe, several years ago my parents and yours traveled together to see a rare South American Jabiru that briefly took up residence in the bay near Corpus Christi. They and I also were with many birdwatching groups at other times in Brazoria County and surrounding counties, including a spring migration excursion on Matagorda Island with an Audubon Nature Group that included your mother and father as well as Jimmy and Bea Harrison (BHS 69 & 70). Your dad was full of interesting knowledge -- and fifteen to twenty years after our high school graduation I was glad to get to know your parents as adults rather than as just a former social studies teacher and his wife.

SOMEONE SUGGESTED SHOWING OUR PROGRESSION OVER THE YEARS

SO I UPLOADED ON MY PROFILE MY AGE PROGRESSION....
I WAS BRAVE.....WHO'S NEXT.....CHALLENGE HAS BEEN MADE...

WHO WILL TAKE UP THE GAUNTLET

05/02/09 10:36 AM #833

Joe Ballard

Irby that is really neat and my parents did really enjoy those excursions. I find myself now at times enjoying a moderate amount of bird watching. As I hope to eventually retire and like to feel a semi retirement now as Dawn Marie and I work together in the surveying business, we have cut our hours to a 40 hr week 4 days a week Mon thru Thurs so we can do more in our garden and short trips around Texas.

John I am working on my progression of age photos and will submit soon..Good Idea

Judy I definely need a spell check or go back to school for typing or english course

Joy I was reading your profile and saw where your third childs name was Austin. Our first so was Austin Travis Ballard..hmmm loved and still do Austin...Chueys wow.Austin died when he was 9 days old.. but three wonderful additions later. I went to TSTI/Waco and recieved my degree in Civil Engr/Surveying Technology in 84-86 (late bloomer). I did so well and ALWAYS wanted to go to UT to get my Civil Engineering degree. Well life can get in the way and things happen in this case we lost our first born which was the 4th and last grandchild to die in a row..Sorry for the ramble but there is so much healing here for me and others reading everyones stories(profiles and chat) and all. To me this is truely a blessing of a site. Being able to reconnect with old memories and hearing wonderful things about how God is working in so many peoples lives.

Oh and to all that live or visit our stae capital..You really need to go to the new Museum of Texas History..awesome exhibits!!! It was worth the money for us

Kitty Allison (Hilton)

Okay, Joe, get this! How proud do you think I was when Allison did her 5th grade state report on TEXAS?! The state report is a big deal in CA...I don't know if it is in other states' elementary school districts. In CA the kids do a big 4th grade mission report and then in 5th it's the huge (many months of research) state report. As I've stated before Allison LOVES Texas, so she was REALLY into it. I learned a lot about our state (Texas, that is!) through her diligent work. Early on she wrote to the Brazosport Facts and had them post a request for Texans to contribute...it was wicked fun for her, and, of course, the true Texans came through for her, donating all kinds of historic bits of info and little flags, etc. Her report was so exceptional that the school district made copies for all the school libraries, and her report ended up being part of a Texas museums traveling trunk show going to schools throughout Texas! Her Texas grandparents were so proud! When we were in Texas we went to the museum and she had her picture taken with the exhibit. Texas is the best!

RIGHT ON!! RIGHT ON!! Give a big hug from all of us other Texans Kitty she probably knows this but only two states ever entered the union as republics Texas and California...Someone Jim, Dickie, do not remember mentioned the Texas History animated history book. I remember as a kid getting up with my dad actually before he got up rolling and throwing my papers..and then coming back and looking at my dads history books including the one above....Life is good!!!
