Carrol Reneau (Jeffers)

Y'all FORCED me to do this:

A man in Topeka , Kansas decided to write a book about churches around the country. He started by flying to San Francisco and started working east from there. Going to a very large church, he began taking photographs and making notes. He spotted a golden telephone on the vestibule wall and was intrigued with a sign, which read "Calls: $10,000 a minute.." Seeking out the pastor he asked about the phone and the sign. The pastor answered that this golden phone is, in fact, a direct line to heaven and if he pays the price he can talk directly to GOD. The man thanked the pastor and continued on his way. As he continued to visit churches in Seattle,Phoenix,Salt Lake City,Denver,Oklahoma City, and around the United States, he found more phones, with the same sign, and the same answer from each pastor. Finally, he arrived in Texas, upon entering a church in Dallas,Texas, behold - he saw the usual golden telephone. But THIS time, the sign read "Calls: 35 cents."

Fascinated, he asked to talk to the pastor, "Reverend, I have been in cities all across the country and in each church I have found this golden telephone and have been told it is a direct line to Heaven and that I could talk to GOD, but in the other churches the cost was $10,000 a minute. Your sign reads only 35 cents a call. Why?"

I love this part... We love Texas ............. The pastor, smiling benignly, replied, "Son, you're in Texas now ... You're in God's Country, It's a local call."

Kitty, John and Joe....I love hearing you brag about your kids and grandkids. In the line of work I am in, drug and alcohol abuse in youth, its so sad. Most of these kids just lack in the love and praise of their parents. It breaks my heart but I feel blessed to have this job, hoping that I can make a difference. My three kids have known nothing but love from their parents. So, Kudos to all of you! Carrol, I can't wait to get to work Monday and tell your story. I was born in Alabama but got here as fast as I could (three years old). No, matter of fact....I'm going to share it with my Sunday School Class. Thanks!

Kitty Allison (Hilton)

Ha! Allison swears she's a Texan, John loves Texas (both of them born in CA)...and I didn't think I was bragging on Allison with that story, I thought I was bragging on Texas!!

Carrol, I've already repeated your joke! It's a good one. I'm a lousy joke teller, usually can't remember it in the right order, but that one was easy...it's a logical story!

IT'S ALL GOOD.....IT'S GOOD TO BRAG ABOUT TEXAS AND NO HARM IN BOASTING ON KIDS AND GRANDKIDS.........IF YOUR A TEXAN IT'S PART OF YOUR NATURE...................... AND BESIDES, IF IT'S TRUE............IT AINT BRAGGIN'

Kitty Allison (Hilton)

To clarify...I DO brag about Allison all the time! We're very proud of her and her choices (so far, so good!). Get back to me when she's about 25 and we'll see if we're still on track. But my comment about that story being more of a brag on Texas than it was on Allison, is sincere. I fully understood and appreciated Marian's comments...no offense, at all.

If I don't move back to Texas...I may loose my daughter...and my husband, for that matter! Allison wants to continue her education there and longs for a good ole Texas boy in her future. How I've managed to raise a true Texas girl here in sunny So Cal is mystifying...yet very gratifying! Love to all my Texas buddies!

JOY YOU ARE JUST ONE OF THE RECENT VICTIMS HERE IN AUSTIN. THERE HAS BEEN A PICTURE, ON THE NEWS, OF A WOMAN THEY ARE PRETTY SURE IS THE ONE SNATCHING PURSES HERE. TOO BAD YOU DIDN'T GET A LOOK AT HER.

Kitty Allison (Hilton)

Gosh Darn, Joy! I'm really sorry to hear about your purse and wallet...that's a bummer. I had mine stolen from my car (along with a camera, etc) about 6 years ago and it seems it took forever for me to get everything back in order...new DL, etc. Replacement CC's came fast, but Macy's still asks me for ID sometimes. Good luck with recovering even some of it. It would be nice if they'd just take the cash and leave the purse, wallet and other pertinent belongings behind. Hopefully, you won't have any serious repercussions from the theft. I love you.

Joy Garrett (Chessher)

Thank you John and Kitty!!! I do wish I could have seen who did it! I am over my cry now...and already cancelled cards, etc. I needed a new picture for my driver's license anyway!!! Kitty you are so sweet...always so lovely, and always will be!!!
Talk more later....have a good night...sweet dreams!!!!

Joy, you may have to insist on a new DL photo. They used my old archived photo! If it was a good one I wouldn't complain, but, of course, it's the standard awful photo! Maybe in Texas you'll automatically get an updated photo which is what makes the most sense! Good luck with it all. I'm still praying they find your purse and wallet...not to be the bearer of bad "vibes" but check on your identity status...there's bad guys (and girls) out there! It's happened on my little private street that mail was removed from mail boxes for the purposes of identity theft. Just protect yourself. XO

Joy Garrett (Chessher)

Thank you Kitty for your concern!!! Yipppeee I stopped by Home Depot, and they had my purse locked up in the safe!! A TEXAN brought it in...must have been in a daze and left in the basket!! It was white and it blended in...someone called me...oh well I was distracted! I take it as a warning sign...pay attention!! Yippppeee I have my pink billfold!!!! Thanks for the prayers...I prayed too! They had it the whole time, but no one told anyone! I am not crying anymore...SMILING!!!!!!
Kitty you are so kind...thank you, and Love you too!!! JOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YIPPPPPPPPPPPPEEEEEE!!!!!

Poliitical news>>>> Have ya'll heard about the law suits against President Obama questioning his eligibility for President due to dual citizenship?!!! Justice Antonin Scalia of the Supreme Court has agreed to hear the arguements. It appears that President Obama applied for legal aid, and he was eligible because he had dual citizenship. The final report will be provided to Eric Holder US Attorney. President Obama's campaign report indicates that he spent $950,000 in legal fees to block personal disclosures of citizenship etc. during his campaign. I don't know what to think of this!!!!!

05/04/09 04:23 PM #854

Mike Strickland

You should think it bogus. The Clinton campaign would have dug this up and played it months ago if it were true.

I watch and listen to all the pundits on a daily basis and its all about Specter and swine flu and now Jack Kemp... So hi all

Jd Barnett:

Joy, I heard they were going to try to overturn the election on the grounds that President Obama was secretly a Texan. It was felt that the last time that happened turned out so poorly that a moratorium is in order.

I hear they were going to get around to it once Jeb Bush, Romney, and Cantor get back from their "What's wrong with the Republican Party" tour they just started. Rumor is that the whole thing is being held up because they just couldn't believe the people when they said that the Republican Party had become the party of ruinous deficits and ill conceived military adventures.

"We don't do that!" Romney exclaimed, "We're Republicans. We hate deficit spending."

Jeb Bush had no comment.

The trilogy:

The only thing wrong with capitalism is some of the capitalists.

The only thing wrong with socialism is socialism.

The only thing wrong with the Republican Party is that there are no longer any Republicans.

05/04/09 07:21 PM #858

Jd Barnett:

All Bush, Romney et al need now is Diogenes' lamp.

"What are you doing with that lamp, guys?"

"We're looking for an honest Republican."

05/04/09 07:42 PM #859

Mike Strickland

Substitute "politician" for "republican" and I'm with you. 99% of them are charlatans interested only in getting re-elected.

Hey I was for Ron Paul!!!! Ohh welll

05/04/09 08:27 PM #861

Paul was part of the 1%, but he was painted as a flake for so long by both sides, he never had a chance.
