John...all I remember about shots is the glass syringes the nurses would break at Dr Johnson's office when I would jump back and they would drop them in the floor...glass everywhere! I still hate shots, and one of my dreams is to be a nurse!!!! LOL I think they were giving tectanus shots because of the bacteria...boy did it smell in Lake Jackson and Freeport!!!!! Do you remember that smell... it is trapped in my brain!!!!!

Boy Carla was rough I truely remember her. We went to Dallas traffic was terrible getting through Houston. Then there was the pictures on TV. My dad and mom decided to bring me back with them to see what needed to be done. I remember feeling scared. Got back and first thing John was those dreaded shots and shot lines at BHS. I remember that the Freeport area had it worse and Joy you are right about that smell!! I remember on our street no electricity for I believe 2 weeks and the people on the opposite side of the street got theirs back first and the exstension chords going to our neighbors houses laying across the street. Mr Slade my dad and me going to West Columbia to get gasoline and some other supplies. Yeppers after that one we left when one got close again

Joy -
Sorry to hear that your toe broke off. Try rubbing it down with avocado and cod liver oil. It may not grow back, but at least it will be beautiful.

All -
After getting our post Carla shots, my sister and I got into an argument in the BHS parking lot. She slammed the car door on my finger. I screamed so loudly that all the Drs. and nurses came running out of the gym to see what happened. No one was left to give shots, hence the long lines. My bad.

We would not have gotten water in or house if the wind had not blown it off the blocks. As a result, we had about 8”. The hardwood floors all warped and buckled. We had to eventually rip out the dry wall and replace it to get rid of the smell. We used our garage door as a raft. Snakes everywhere there was any dry land. There was nothing left of Surfside except a bunch of house pilings sticking up and one Geodesic Dome house that survived only to succumb to beach erosion a few years ago. That was about the time Eliot Clark’s house fell into the Gulf too.

What ever happened to Eliot Clark? Doug Tucker? and the rest of the “surfer” dudes?

By the way -
I am far from being a techno-nerd. My cell phone only makes phone calls. If it does anything else, I don't know how to do it. So - when I would see someone type symbols (e.g. ":)" or ":(" ) I didn't know what that meant. I happened to type ":)" the other day and my word processer replaced it with a smiley face. Duh -
Will someone please send me a glossary of symbols so that I will know what ya'll are talking about? Do the Russians know this code?

Dee: Look here for a comprehensive list of emoticons. Here are more symbols. Or try these for texting abbreviations --it's never too late for an old dog to learn new tricks.

It would be easier to just type what you mean rather than try try remember all these symbols and then type them.

I took typing from Mr. JJJJJJohnson. He started every class by saying, "Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country. Let's type that a few times and when you get through, type it again."

He would give us timed test. We would type a paragraph from our exercise book. He would then time us again and we would type it again. We were supposed to be graded on our choice of the best result. I heard about people who would start typing, during the first timed test, taking their time, trying not to make mistakes. When the word was given to start typing the second attempt, they would keep typing on the first one. Lots of words with few mistakes. I didn't do it, I was just there.

I still slam my fingers down on a keyboard, especially for "A,Z,Q" because I learned to type on those old Underwood manual typewriters. When we would type carbons, you almost had to hit the keys with a hammer to make the copy show. If you typed too fast (which was not a problem that I had, or have) the keys would jamb. They would jamb on me because I couldn't control my fingers and would hit between the keys and two would go up at once.

What would we have to do if we had to use typewriters now. My submissions, to this forum would be illegible.

Joe, look to the top left blue column, in white letters it says "EXPORTERS' PROFILES". Scroll down alphabetically and you will see Freddie Brenk's name. He has a profile on the website; he lives here in Freeport. You can e-mail him directly.

DEE, I don't want to use my imagination when it comes to you and Strickland. That's just scarey. I do like Joy's buck horns idea though. Dee, your posts today had people coming out of their offices to find out what I was laughing at. I'm sure the computer cops will be targetting me now. thanks alot. *********************************************************
Dear All, Strickland sent some baseball baby team pictures that are posted under ATHLETICS.

Who could forget Carla. Fortunately, our house was not damaged but i remember my cousin's had 11ft. of water and snakes in the attack. I most definitely remember the shots. I also remember the smell coming back into the county. I was so sad. I saw dead horses and cows on tops of roofs. I thought life would never be back to normal. But do you remember how normal it got and so quickly. To my knowledge, I don't think the government gave our parents one dollar of aide. They just picked up where they were and did their best. People pitched in and helped. I remember our teacher telling us to bring clothes to school because some people might have lost everything.

Our city in Albany had a major flood like that in 1994. Coffins were floating around town. Some people came home and found skeletons stuck in their fences. Oh well, it just brought back that memory. Sorry.

Dee, are these door prizes, as in "given just for being there" or are they for the golf tournament or gumbo/chili cookoff, or for the bunco tournament? Give me a clue.... I would like to donate something. (and Dee, you will notice that I communicated to you without previously mentioned emoticons, symbols, and other abbreviated notations....) :)

Thank you Marian. My trip to Africa was amazing and God did great things while I was there. Many people became Christ-followers, healed, both physically and spiritially.

We are a blessed people here in the United States, with plenty to eat, a nice bed to lay, and friends and family who are safe. I ministered to widows in Uganda who have lost their husbands and children to AIDS, and unbelievably some watched as their husbands or children were hacked to death before their eyes.

Yes, I earnestly pray that each of us will ask God to one more time -- have mercy on this nation.

I just spoke with Carolyn Croy and she has had shoulder surgery and I have urged her to join the site. I have received several emails concerning Carol and she was so excited to know her Freeport Friends care!

Kathy, I do not know of a place that plays oldies. There is a radio station in Bay City that interviews me from time to time and they play nothing but oldies. I love that station (92.5). The DJ is great! At the old Lake Theater they were having live shows (playing alot of oldies and gospel) but they closed it down. I don't know why. They would have the "look alike" Elvis and he sounded exactly like Elvis.

Alice you ROCK! Everyone have a great week. It's been raining here off and on all weekend. (Messed-up my Galveston trip with daughter's and granddaughter).

I have been deeply touched by the loss of many of our classmates. It seems the Lord has taken home a lot of precious people from our class while leaving a craggy old cranky guy like me here.

I realize that I lost contact with a plethorea of my fellow Exporters that are still dear to my heart. The recent revelation of the loss of another beautiful classmate has stirred me so thatI my thoughts began to flow from my heart. I just finished writing this so I would ask you to bear with me and let me share this meager attempt to relate my feelings.

The life we live upon this earth
is only for a short time span
Our greatest purpose from our birth
is to reveal Gods love to man

Affect the lives you contact with
a blessing for a greater good
By modern tool or eolith
reshape a heart as Jesus would

A few have blessed me and I see
that I'm a better man through them
Because of love they've given me
My heart evolved from stone to gem

I now give honor to the life
that's gone but did affect my way
their gift to me of love was rife
and this to them I now repay

Thank you Winona

Joy in answer to you YES I remember the horrible odor in LJ and FPT. and yes it was a Tetanus shot that we lined up for, I think it was a DPT shot. I, too remember the broken glass it was a smallpox vaccine. I also remember the stapler that the school nurse used for a TB test. I always hated shots, but I guess that's a good thing. I never got into drugs because I hated smoke, needles and always had trouble swallowing pills as a child. Now I gulp down my medications and daily horse pill vitamins as if they were nothing at all.
