Well, here's my responses. I saw everyone writing about our Mom's sewing for us girls. It was so cheap-I don't remember when I got a "real outfit." Well, my Mom did the same. What was so funny was when my mom finally moved from Lake Jackson to Colorado we helped clean out her attic and there were all kinds of scraps. She gave them to my Aunt and just recently all 3 of us girls got quilt covers and guess what we found: scraps from so many of our dresses and clothes! What wild things we had! I feel into sewing for my kids: made dress suits and camos for my son and made many matching outfits for me and my daughter(when she was young)! Don't know if anyone knows it but I won 1st place in the Wool Sewing contest in "Home Economics" (Whoopee); was suppose to go to State but got very sick and couldn't make it. I've had my sewing machine away for many years but recently made doll clothes for my grandaughter's American Doll...surprised everyone - Ha!

Joy Garrett (Chessher)

Hi Judy...thank you so much! I have been wondering about some of the other Brazosport classes! Janie tells me you are so sweet! Come to our reunion...I want to meet you!
I am hoping Janie will come with me!! Have a great day!
JOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kitty...loved everything you wrote me...and I am so happy things are going great for you! It is TIME that doctors rely on natural healers instead of deadly drugs that react to each other.....(and this is from a pharmacist's daughter) I have heard great things about Noni products, and Mannatech supplements...I have taken them for 5 years!!! My friend tells me it stops the aging process...and that sure sounds good to me!!! Hey Kitty....I am for hire...well when Jolie grows up some! I will get back with you very soon! Great job...but always remember great things happen to great people!!!! GOD bless you and yours.

Well, I am off to work it out...work it..work it...still eating those eggs, meat, and cheese! One of my friends lost 25 pounds on this crazy diet! The reason it is supposed to work is without very few carbs your own body fat will burn the calories you eat!!! I give it a month!! Does anyone know about it...Atkins diet???!!!

Thank you Kathy...Janie added those pictures on my profile Facebook and Exporter profile!!! That is Randy holding the "big fish"...named him Monroe...He was always wanting to catch Monroe...he did!!!!! YIPPPPPPPEEEE! I wish that you all could have known Randy...he is the greatest man I have ever known...and he loved only me!!!!!!! YIPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPEEEEEEEE!!!!

GOD bless you all with a wonderful day!!!!!!! Yipppppeee I am feeling great...wonder if it is the diet? Who feels good on a diet???!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love to all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dee Allen

Joy -

If you eat all that stuff you put on your face, two things will happen.

1. You will have a nutritious and balanced diet, and

2. You would have the most beautiful gastro-intestinal lining at the reunion.

You could bring us pictures, like JD Barnett's colon scope.

06/23/09 10:43 AM #1393

Joy Garrett (Chessher)

Dee....LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hey, did JD put his colon scope on his profile?!!! LOL..LOL!!!!!!!! Now that is funny! Remember in school show and tell? My daughter-in-law has one of those scopes! I wonder if she would let me show and tell...lol!!!!! Just kidding...that is embarrassing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You stay out of trouble...I know it is very difficult for you!!!!
Hey, I think I am going to make some deer meat chili...Randy's recipe if I can remember it!!! Yummmmmmmyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Judy Burkes McGough (Pinkard)

Joy, I would so love the opportunity to get to meet you. Your sister is just an awesome human being and has always been very special to me (even though she didn't know it...how sad is that?). Anyway, I will not be able to attend your reunion, as much as I'd like to. I know you will all have a wonderful time...I'm very envious that I will miss out on so much fun. I hope you all take lots of pictures and post them on here for us to see.

Carrol, do you remember us eating lunch together in high school sometimes? I don't know why it sticks out in my mind so much (but it looked so good)...you would bring wiener sandwiches. Do you remember that?

Judy,I went all through elementary school and jr. high with Keith. He was a great schoolmate. I have many great memories of him in school. Glad to see you on the site.
Take care

Judy Burkes McGough (Pinkard)

Melinda, I remember your name and when I saw your picture I remember you too! Yes, he was a great person and we all miss him. Please go to his memory section. He died in 1998 and post something for his children to read about their dad. If you have a funny story...feel free to put it out there ... I will print it off for them. They will not be surprised. Do you remember "Shorty's" the guys big hang out in Clute? It seems he was there every day. He would call me after school (before cells..ya know) and say "I'm going to Shorty's" or "I just got back from Shorty'"....I wonder what REALLY went on there????? Thanks for your comments and it is so much fun reading everything and reconnecting after all this time. I have so many friends in this class!

Joy, I have used a version of the Adkins diet twice in my life. I say "a version" because mine was a much stricter high protein low carb diet. After my 2nd and last daughter, I was huge. So, when I finally got disgusted enough, I went to a diet doctor/hypnotist in Houston. Never thought the hypnotist part did much good since it was still hard as hell to stay on the diet, but the first wk, I lost 10lbs. The fast results kept me going cause patience has never been one of my virtues. But as long as I stayed on the diet, the lbs came off. I eventually lost over 60 lbs and it stayed off for 7-8 yrs. Then in my mid 40's it crept bk up, so this time I didn't pay a doctor, just bk on the diet and once again, the lbs came off. This time I lost more than 50lbs...a size 9 slim fit (remember those Rocky Mt brand jeans?)Of course over the past 10 yrs, a few of those lbs have managed to find their way bk, but cancer seemed to take care of most that I gained. Not that I would recommend that as a wt reduction technique. But the diet that worked for me was drastic. Only 10 grams of carbs per day. So basically, you ate meat. Any and all kinds. And as long as you didn't pig out, portion sizes weren't as important as no carbs. I fudged a little cause I ended up eating lots of barbque and could not go without at least a drop or two of sauce. And a lot of tuna salad with very little Miracle Whip. Sugar free jello came in handy and I drank a lot of unsweet tea...using artificial sweetner. But careful cause each brand is different. A lot of them say "less than a gram of carb", but actually have 9/10 of a gram which is almost 10% of your daily allotment. Same warning with diet soda. If you can stick it out, it has always worked for me. But it ain't easy. Good luck with whatever you try.

I just love what this website does! My doorbell rang and it was DeeAnn Trout Glenn! (and her brother and his wife who still live in LJ) Unfortunately, DeeAnn was here for their 93 year old aunt Iris Durham's funeral. Some of y'all may have known DeeAnn's aunt. "Iris and Harold were true pioneers of Lake Jackson, known as one of the first 10 families to reside in Lake Jackson. Their daughter, Mary Lynne, was known as the third child born to a Lake Jackson family. Iris was a 30-year employee at the Dow Chemical Company in the payroll department. Her love of music brought her to be one of the early pianists of the First United Methodist Church of Lake Jackson, where she has been a member for more than 50 years." (partial obit from The Facts)
It was such a surprise and pleasure. DeeAnn and I have been facebook buddies for a few months and she knew I was having granite countertops put in and her brother & wife are wanting do granite countertops, too . . . so they stopped hoping to see new stuff but . . . it isn't scheduled to be installed until July 6. But enjoyed the short visit and meeting her brother & wife.

Ok, I finally found my backups of the original recording of our fight song being sung in the auditorium. Mr. Mac had originally recorded it on reel to reel tape which I had - but somehow....a 15 second piece of it was erased in the middle of it. So, I looked all over in boxes of hundreds of cassette tapes that I had stored and remembered that I had made a couple of back up cassettes of the tapes (just in case). The easiest way to transfer the music to DVD was to hold my camcorder on a page of the book and play the cassette over the stereo - then transfer that to Youtube. You may have to adjust your sound volume down.

Anyway, this is US singing along with the band at a concert in the auditorium.

And today is the last day of summer school here in Tularosa, so now I'm off for the rest of the summer. Leaving in another week to go on a 3-week trip across this great land of ours with my sister in her new big chromed out Peterbilt. We'll have a great time. She's done this for over 10 years and I've never had the chance to ride with her. It has one of those big "condo" sleepers that has 10 ft ceilings. Cindy is one of those truck drivers you don't want to mess with. She usually has her husband of 24 years along with her, but she's dropping him off at home so I can go.

She doesn't think that I can hack the trucker's life. I consider it an adventure. I'll have my laptop with me so I can keep up with my e-mails.

Dickie, Thank you for all your efforts to get the Fight Song on here. I really did enjoy listening to it.

I rode with my husband for a year in our "decked out" Peterbilt the first year we were married. It is luxury for the rider, but it does get old after awhile. He always said it was harder for a woman. We had a fridge, tv/vcr (no dvd's then), stereo system and microwave.

You will have a blast AND you will come home with a new appreciation for what the truck drivers have to put up with out on the road and in general. Have a safe trip and enjoy!

Alice you know that us manly guys cannot answer silly questions like these and maintain our macho status down at the bar, first thing that would happen is all my partners would be on the far end of the bar talking about me. I would have to go get another tattoo just so they would let me in the joint. O K, Alice just to prove that us guys can be sin-su-tive I will take up the banner and sally forth…….. I have written to the Census Bureau and asked them not to censor this too much, since I worked real hard at keeping things offensive and stinky out of most of my comments.

3 things I would save in a fire: The fire has already occurred so in my case my choices are somewhat more simplified. So …. my shotgun, my four wheel drive, and my dog should be no problem since I sleep with them. Now I know ya’ll are all worried about the wife, kids and grandma but I have every intention of blowing the horn as I drive out.

3 toppings on a pizza: Ya’ mean there is something else other than pepperoni you can put on a pizza?

3 things I can't live without: Since I can’t live without them, the obvious answer would be my shotgun, truck and dog but I think you are looking for a more serious answer so after a lot of thought (that’s dangerous) the three things would have to be sex, drugs and rock-and-roll. But now I can’t remember why sex is on the list and CVS reminds me when my prescriptions need to be refilled, and I can’t remember which closet the Buddy Holly albums are in. Is this a trick question?

3 words I would say before I die: I tried real hard not to but I absolutely have to say this ---H E L P, C A L L 9 1 1 ---. I can assure you of one thing, I’m gonna say a heck of a lot more than three words before I die and begging for forgiveness is high on the list, then denying everything else will follow closely, then an awful lot of apologies, and of course a general retraction of stupid statements and wise cracks will have to be included. Because what all you Class of ’69 members have to realize is that you will only be facing Saint Pete at the Pearly Gates. I will have my Grandmother standing beside ‘ole Pete with ledger book in hand and a red pen pointing out particular instances in my life that should receive a closer examination. Not an area I need any help in.

3 best friends: Sorry, but this one I truly cannot answer, I have already lost one and therefore know the value and cost involved, and will not place a limit here.

3 dream vacations: Now this is a real easy one. When I win the lottery next week I intend to travel up north and visit those exotic places I hear friends talk about….. Clute, Richwood and maybe even Lake Barbara. It would be unlikely that I would venture much north of the Mason-I 10 line. A trip like that would be the biggest thing in my life since the aliens landed last Tuesday night.

3 favorite words: Tried this once before but the FCC got involved and it took several years to straighten out, and there wasn’t even a wardrobe failure involved.

3 favorite movies: With the deaths of Marilynn and Linda the movies just aren’t the same (yes this is a test to see who Marilynn and Linda are). It is really hard to choose just three so without spending many hours on the internet trying to remember all the movies in my life, I think some of these will be on most or our lists, “Old Yell’er”, “Song of The South” and of course, Water Pidgeon and Leslie Nielson along with Robie in “Forbidden Planet”. More than likely TV had more to do with shaping my life than movies and ‘60’s sit-coms, variety shows, and of course private detective weeklies consumed huge chunks of our formative years and out there leading the pack for me was/is Daisy Moses.

3 things to do before you die: This computer ain’t got enough memory for me to answer this one.

3 things behaviors you'd like to change: Now this is downright unfair, only change three things? Does this include things like taking baths…. with soap, using a teeth brush, and I did use Right Guard for a while but it was too expensive so I switched to the other spay stuff, Krylon. For important occasions I will spring for Rust-O-Leum. And besides the ol’e lady already made me give up swearing and scratching my butt in church. But there still is the problem I have with picking my nose, maybe that could get changed, naaaaw, probably not. But the one thing that really does aggravate me is seeing my kids do something, or say something that I do and I don’t like it when they do it. How do you take back a behavior or speech pattern that you have un-wittingly taught them? I’m expecting an answer to this one.

3 items you see right now: I see myself needing to go to bed, it is well into tomorrow and I have spent way too much time answering these silly questions. Actually they are not all silly, some got real serious, but I think I have artfully dodged any resemblance to an adult answer. We need to have some exciting contest like whose telephone numbers adds up to the highest (or lowest) sum, that would be great. Is anybody still using any of the furniture that was in their bedroom when they were in school? Who lives closest to the house where they lived in high school? How many ‘Seventh’ streets are there in Freeport and what do the telephone prefixes CY, BE, and AN stand for? How about the telephone area code for Brazosport in 1969? Does anybody remember the ‘ONE WAY’ sign in the Second Street parking lot of BHS that had arrows pointing both ways? And who made a fool of themselves on their first date, and second, and third……..if you decide to answer this question, names, dates and details are required.
