Carrol Reneau (Jeffers)

Once upon a time, in a faraway land as Elroy rolled his newspapers for his morning delivery, he sat there looking at the headlines of The Facts, he read that the Brazosport Class of 1969 was planning their 40 year class reunion. As he continued reading, low and behold he found out that no one in that class had ever solved the riddle. The riddle is as follows:
The Hotel Bill
Three people check into a hotel. They pay $30 to the manager and go to their room. The manager finds out that the room rate is $25 and gives the bellboy $5 to return to the guests. On the way to the room the bellboy reasons that $5 would be difficult to split among three people so he pockets $2 and gives $1 to each person. Now each person paid $10 and got back $1. So they paid $9 each, totaling $27. The bellboy has another $2, adding up to $29.
Where is the remaining dollar?
Except for Kitty Allison, Algebra stumped alot of the class but then

Carol had me blocked out for days. I hired some government computer geeks to help me around the firewall she built. It cost me a bundle but they assure me that the IRS will audit her returns for the past 5 years.

The Headline Elroy read said, "Class of '69 Holding 40th Reunion". The Byline said, "Strickland still complaining about taking Final Exam"

The next day, the forty year old riddle was solved when it was discovered that the Secretary of the Treasury, Timothy Geithner took the dollar, in 1969, and drew interest on it in order to pay his delinquent tax bill, 40 years later.

The three guests each ended up paying $9, for a total of $27 of their money to be accounted for. Can't make it add up to $30, since there aren't $30 in circulation once the $3 are given back ($1 to each guest). The trick is remembering that the bellboy's $2 is a subset of the money paid by the three guests....

The manager has $25 and the bellboy has $2, for a total of $27.....

Yvonne, I thought maybe we could finally be good friends but . . . alas, we cannot. You mathed me.

Thanks, Yvonne; I FINALLY get it (of course, I had to re-read your answer about a dozen times before it actually sank in)--I never was very good at math.

Now Elroy's dad was Kilroy. Kilroy had made his fortune with the icon and prose "Kilroy was here" during World War II and for years after his art work was found all over Europe and the USA and even some in the Pacific. He went on with his artwork endeavor in the 50's and sixties portraying rats and freaky critters driving hotrods and dragsters with emphasis on bare knuckles grasping gear shifters.

I just received this from Nancy Bryan Gilbert regarding her dad, Coach L.Z. Bryan, please add them to your prayer list.

Dad, L.Z. Bryan, needs all our prayers as he is in Intensive Care at Methodist Hospital in Houston. He is suffering from severe pneumonia. Last night they put him on a respirator. Please pray for him to begin to heal.

I received the following message from fellow classmate, Stanley Brock (even though he won't be able to attend, I've encouraged him to sign in to the Reunion site).

Hello Winona,
Long time no talk, about 40 years now. I have heard about the Class Reunion, but unfortunantely I will be unable to attend. I am working overseas and will not be in country Labor Day weekend. It is a shame, as it would be good to catch up with folks and renew old freindships. I do look forward to seeing some pictures of activities and people posted on the website.

Just a quick update, as I said I am working in Malaysia for ExxonMobile and have been with them for 38 years. I am married, have two boys and two Grand Daughters. I am living in between Montgomery and Conroe, just South of the lake and both boys live in the Tomball area, so we get to see them often. I am planning to retire about this time next year and am looking forward to being able to spend more time with the family.

It is good to hear from you. Let me know what's happening in your life. .....Stan

I rmember the Oscar Mayer Weiner whistles when I was kid. My parents could not afford to buy them while growing up. Now Danny Cappell had one and I was so envious.

I just talked to my mother, who volunteers at Brazaosport Hospital. She mentioned coach Bryan and that "Breezy" Cox had had a stroke. His mind seemed to be okay, but one side was affected. Prayers for him and his family, too. Nancy, hope your dad is doing better.

Time for my weekly call for door prize donations. Sorry, I left Janice Mangum off last weeks list of CONFIRMED donors.

Due to the dearth of responses, I have deduced that Carol, somehow, is blocking my access to the forum still. My request must appear only on my computer. If we don’t have many door prizes, it will be Carol’s falt.

I never wanted an Oscar Meyer whistle but I always begged my parents to get me one of the Davy Crockett coon skin hats that they sold at Weingarten’s. I never got one. Maybe someone will donate one as a door prize.

OMG! Just returned home from our summit in Austin at the Arboretum-North. This is one of the most beautiful places I have seen. I loved my tripped and while there, decided to buy a weekend get-away so maybe we can get together for a winter retreat. I love Austin but was alittle excited to get back home. Some of us just can't seem to leave this area. I did have to buy eye drops and allergy pills. But, it was worth it! I know now why my son would never move back. I have missed the message forum and I think Dee is one of the most halarious guys ever. Can't wait to see everyone. Take care!!!

Marian glad to see you back. If I could afford to move to Austin I would be there in a minute. We almost moved there in 1988 after graduating from TSTI/WACO. I wanted then to get my Civil Engineering degree. We priced housing and oh well ended up in Kopperl on Lake Whitney.
It is about time for a weekend in Austin "Keep Austin Weird" Question how many BHS'69ers live in the greater Austin area. Do you Carrol have any stats?

07/10/09 03:51 PM #1507

Donna Billie (Jones)

Hi, Marian--on behalf of all us Austinites, I apologize for the allergies. They definitely are the worst. That's why we're all on heavy drugs and keeping Austin Weird!

Joe, I am proud to say that I do not have any stats & have no wish to even know stats. But,as Herr Strickland would say, please feel free to work it up yourowndamnself.

I hope my humor made it to Cleburne. After your question, I actually did try to come up with a method of 'sorting' locales. On the homepage you can click on a map and it shows pin points and you could sort of guess and make a list but . . . I am very task oriented and if I started that . . . the weekend would be shot and I already have a to-do list!

FYI for all you Lake Jackson JH boys and girls...
Our beloved Asst. Principle, Paul Todd passed away Wednesday. He was such a character. Of course, I never had to go visit him, but I always thought he was the nicest guy.

His wife was my Sunday School teacher and we were always over that their house. hmmmm... maybe that's why I never seemed to get in trouble at school.

Anyway, thought ya'll would like to know.

Update for Coach Bryan:
Last night he could breathe on his own when the respirator was removed for a short time. Test show nothing is 'growing' in his lungs (bacteria). He is slightly better but still anticipate that he will be in ICU 1 - 2 weeks and hospitalized 6 - 8 weeks. Please remember Coach and Mrs. Bryan and their family in your prayers.
