I'm back too...2060 miles in the Vette and now we're safe at home. After the car show in Brekenridge, CO--we didn't win :-( we took a side trip to Estes Park, Co and drove through the Rocky Mounty National Park...got hailed on in Grand Lake, CO (YIKES--NOT FUN in a fiberglass car!); then on to Canon City, CO where we enjoyed the day at the Royal Gorge; spent the night in Raton, NM then headed home and arrived Thursday evening. We even managed to bring some of the rain with us--wish the mild temps had followed us too. I'll post a few photos on my profile later.

Dee your post of 7/28/09 was WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!
Our God is so good- It is so hard to loose our parents or siblings but just knowing that they are in Heaven and God has healed them and that we will see them again is AWESOME!! It does break our hearts to see them go and each day I thank him for allowing me a few more minutes here on Earth-
Nancy - I did not know your Dad that well but he has a fantastic reputation and it speaks wonders for him! When you can have those special times with our parents before they leave this earth they are memories that will bring you through dark days of loneliness.
I knew Louise in elementary school and she was precious- it saddens my heart that she is gone but knowing she is with our Lord is rewarding.

Happy Birthday Joy------- I hope your having a fantastic day.

I thank Alice and Carrol for getting this site going and all the excitement it has generated with the classmates-I have had some say that they weren't coming to the reunion until they started reading what's been posted.
May you all have a wonderful evening.

My husband and I went to the funeral home this evening for the visitation for the Bryan family. There was a huge crowd that trailed around the inside of the building and then outside and down the sidewalk. What an outpour of love and respect for Coach Bryan and his family! It was good to see the people visiting with each other and recalling fond memories. It was wonderful to see and visit briefly with Mr. McDonald, our band director. Laura was with him as well. I am REALLY looking forward to the reunion.

Dee...GOD's words speak through you. How wonderful your words are, and a great wittness to all. Thank you! JESUS came as a servant, but could have come as a great King adorned in riches. As a servant HE came to teach us how to live in HIS LOVE. HIS LOVE is the greatest love we will ever have. It is unfailing, and there are no conditions of HIS LOVE... HE gives it so freely, unconditionally. HE gave it all up for us, and loved us so much HE gave HIS own life to save us. The main attraction is not our mansion in Heaven...but it is HIM, JESUS CHRIST. To look in the eyes of our Savior will be the greatest day of my life!!!! There is no greater LOVE than the Love of our Savior JESUS CHRIST, and HIS unfailing love has seen me through this life. Thank you Dee...GOD bless you and yours. Oh, and don't worry I will share the glory with you when I win the Chili cook off!!! LOL...okay Michael and Alan I am counting on you!!! Since we are having our 40th I thought I would share something someone sent me so whoever is in charge of our 55th can start making plans now....

THE CLASS REUNION

Every ten years, as summertime nears, An announcement arrives in the mail,
A reunion is planned; it'll be really grand; Make plans to attend without fail.

I'll never forget the first time we met; We tried so hard to impress.
We drove fancy cars, smoked big cigars, And wore our most elegant dress.

It was quite an affair; the whole class was there. It was held at a fancy hotel.
We wined, and we dined, and we acted refined, And everyone thoughtit was swell.

The men all conversed about who had been first To achieve great fortune and fame.
Meanwhile, their spouses described their fine houses And how beautiful their children became.

The homecoming queen, who once had been lean, Now weighed in at one-ninety-six.
The jocks who were there had all lost their hair, And the cheerleaders could no longer do kicks.

No one had heard about the class nerd Who'd guided a spacecraft to the moon;
Or poor little Jane, who's always been plain; She married a shipping tycoon.

The boy we'd decreed 'most apt to succeed' Was serving ten years in the pen,
While the one voted 'least' now was a priest; Just shows you can be wrong now and then.

They awarded a prize to one of the guys Who seemed to have aged the least.
Another was given to the grad who had driven The farthest to attend the feast.

They took a class picture, a curious mixture Of beehives, crew cuts and wide ties.
Tall, short, or skinny, the style was the mini; You never saw so many thighs.

At our next get-together, no one cared whether they impressed their classmates or not.
The mood was informal, a whole lot more normal;
By this time we'd all gone to pot.

It was held out-of-doors, at the lake shores; We ate hamburgers, coleslaw, and beans.
Then most of us lay around in the shade, In our comfortable T-shirts and jeans.

By the fiftieth year, it was abundantly clear, We were definitely over the hill.
Those who weren't dead had to crawl out of bed, And be home in time for their pill.

And now I can't wait; they've set the date; Our 55th is coming, I'm told.
It should be a ball, they've rented a hall At the Shady Rest Home for the old.

Repairs have been made on my hearing aid; My pacemaker's been turned up on high.
My wheelchair is oiled, and my teeth have been boiled; And I've bought a new wig and glass eye.

I'm feeling quite hearty, and I'm ready to party I'm gonna dance 'til dawn's early light.
It'll be lots of fun; But I just hope that there's one other person who can make it that night.

Dee Ann Trout (Glenn)

I am planning on making the 55th and I'll be ready to dance, if the legs still work. Thanks for the poem, Michael, it was cute.

I was in attendance today at coaches service and his son ask that any coaches or players would stand and it looked to be about a hundred that stood, that shows what kind of coach we have lost and what kind of man he was.

SOME UPDATES:

1. I moved Coach Bryan's obituary to the In Memory section.

2. In doing the above, I deleted the updated list of those who have registered . . . yeah, I know, I'm fairly ,ahem, 'annoyed' myself . . . it'll take time but, of course, it can be recreated. Eventually.

3. I spoke with Nancy at Coach Bryan's visitation and she expressed much gratitude for the support of her classmates on this site. She feels your love & support and it is much appreciated.

4. Both Doris McGown's brother, Steven, and their Mother have joined our website. His B'Wood class reunion (c/o '74) is the same weekend as ours so Steven & Mrs. McGown will come visit with us, too. Their names can be found in our 'Guest Members' section.

Thanks, Winona. I think it probably would have been more impressive IF I HADN'T DELETED THE REGISTRATION LIST WHILE I WAS DOING ALL THAT!!!!!!! 2 steps forward, 1 step back - story of my life. ;>) Carrol

I have re-assembled the Class photo that Janet Skaggs originally provided on her profile. It's a little grainey because I increased the picture size (19"W x 5"H), but if you'd like to have the digital file, just email me and I'll send it to you.

Judy Teague (Crenshaw)

Just read most of the recent updates. All I can say is my heart is full to be a part of such a beautiful group of people.

Mike, love the poem. Watching my dad cling to his Lord willing. I think there is around 5 left of his class.

Dee, thanks for your words. God does speak through you. God Bless.

Carrol, I feel like through this site, I have made a life friend who I barely knew in high school.

I love this family much more than I did in '69. Thank you for your comments and prayers for my little unborn granddaughter. Her mother is still in the hospital but doing better. Please continue to pray that she will not give birth for at least 3 more weeks. For those who don't know what I am talking about, you can read the prayer request so I don't repeat myself.

Love you guys and keep writing.

Brenda S. Johnson (Lindsey)

Sure would love to make it to the reunion but life transitions just keep getting in the way. They are good ones though! Charles and I are moving to Farmington, NM and will just have landed there at the end of August. I will have the "cardboard box" war to fight and get settled into my nest. Charles has accepted a job as a mental health behavioral therapist at Presbyterian Medical Center in Farmington. It's a great place to visit, so come on up; only 45 miles south of Durango, CO. I would love to see everyone and play a little catch-up with some dear friends. So enjoy for me and I will keep watch for stories and pictures.

Jd Barnett:

Brenda, congrats! Presbyterian is a good outfit. I lived in Farmington from 1989 to 2005 and loved it. I still miss skiing at Purgatory, running the Animas river and camping everywhere.

Margaret Dubois (Ammons)

Hey, Brenda-Congrats on the new job and the move. NM is a great place to live. We lived in Albuquerque for 2 yrs and our oldest son was born at Presbyterian in Alb.
Loved living in NM and would love to visit some day.

Mike Strickland

Jim,

Did you ever spend time in the Pagosa Springs area?
**********************************************************
Mike, that's sounds like an investigator's question. Is JD Barnett considered 'a person of interest' in the Pasoa Springs area? Jim, you don't have to answer that - lawyer up, sounds like a trap. Normally I would be on the other side but this is Strickland after all.
Carrol

*****************************************************
Carrol Sue, you've been near the DA's office too long. Innocent question. I started going up there in 1976 before it was "discovered".

08/03/09 01:32 PM #1658

Jd Barnett:

Mike:

Yes, I did. I had several friends there and we always went skiing at Wolf Creek before Purgatory got enough snow to ski on. It's a nice place. Wolf Creek is a tiny resort with great skiing. Several years it opened up in late October.
*********************************************************
ooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhh, Jim, Jim,no,no,no,no,too late.

Carrol Reneau (Jeffers)

Kathy Harkreader Jones, where are you? Have you taken a vow of silence?
********************************************************
Judy Crenshaw,my farmer friend, how very nice of you. I think life has knocked the edge off of me a bit (for which I am MOST GRATEFUL) . . . or maybe that just happens to all of us as we grow up? I think I have been an extremely late bloomer, too. I agree with you and am glad of the opportunity to make new friends with old acquaintenances.

PEOPLE, ITS IN ABOUT 30 DAYS NOW - READY OR NOT! oh,dear.

08/03/09 09:44 PM #1660

Mike Strickland

Wolf Creek has been open as late as mid April as well.

Recently Red McCombs tried to build many hundreds of condos and apartments up at the pass. The locals and finally the park service wore him down.
