Jd Barnett:

Mike, I followed that development issue for quite a while. It's nice to hear that it's been resolved, at least for now. These things tend to crop up again and again, though.

That area is nice the way it is. People that want more night life or better grooming can always head out to Breckenridge or Copper. I always thought that the pass itself was a good test of cold weather skills, especially when the road was ice and a light mist made it greasy...I saw a lot of people slide off the road. It kept the crowds down.

Wolf Creek always good about having locals days where you could ski cheap, especially early and late in the season. I always got a season pass at Purg, because it was only an hour away, but loved skiing Wolf Creek to start and end the season.

Please everyone take a few minutes and read the Prayer Request. We have several classmates needing our prayers and support along with Judy Hays Seymour in the loss of her father. Thank you and have a bless day.

Jim,

Next time you're there in warmer weather, drive up to the top of the pass. The road is directly across from the continental divide marker. It takes about 15 minutes to get up there, but it has a beautiful 20 mile view.

Jd Barnett:

Mike, I'll do that. Maybe I'll even ride my bike up; I need the workout. It'll take a little more than fifteen minutes, though.

I always loved driving up that beautiful valley in the springtime and seeing everything budding out in the warm sunshine, then hitting the base of the pass. By the time I got to the top a few miles (and several thousand feet elevation) later it was full blown wintertime, likely as not snowing like crazy and 50 degrees colder than it was just below.

I've not had the pleasure of driving from Houston to Lake Jackson on Friday afternoon of a holiday weekend since the 1980s. If I want to get to Lake Jackson by 6pm (check in at the hotel before the game), what time should I plan on leaving Houston (Rice University area)??

I figured plenty of y'all would know the answer to this question.

Margaret Dubois (Ammons)

Yvonee-Traffic down 288 is pretty intense going South, so I would give myself 2 hrs just in case. Who knows, it may be lighter because of the holiday.

Susie (Gerry Sue) Reichenbach (Tyler)

Joy-oh my goodness girlfriend you just make my days!!!! God has blessed you with such a happy and loving heart!!!!! Your awesome----

Yvonne: If you give yourself about an hour drive from Houston to LJ, you should do fine, unless of course there's a wreck somewhere along the way. When your passing Pearland exit (Hwy 518) it's usually busy but stay in the left hand lane because everyone is trying to exit on the right--- it's not a bad drive but be sure to go potty before you leave Houston as there's not any good place to stop along the way- the only places to get off are busy intersections and getting tangled up in traffic there is no fun!!!! Be safe!!!!!

Greetings, Friends--Todd and I are celebrating our 31st wedding anniversary today. Many people ask us the secret for keeping a marriage together, and it is...don't leave!

Kathy Harkreader (Jones)

Carrol, things to do. Thanks for thinking of me, though.

Joy, I fell, also. :) It was a slow-motion fall...in stages.... I hit about 3 different things on my way down and then caught 2 of my toes on a basket (I had on socks). It was quite jarring but also funny. :) No injuries...thank you, Jesus!

Donna, congrats! Great tip, too! :)

Joy Garrett (Chessher)

Well...........it is 3:00 AM...I am in a talking mood!!! Does this surprise you? LOL!!!!! After Jolie goes home...I sometimes take a nap...that lasts for 8 hours! Here I am all bright eyed ready for the day...at 3:00 AM!!!!!!!You all know me as happy, crazy JOY...but GOD has brought me through this life, and made me a strong woman....The lessons HE has taught me are many...I am a real case HE is working on...LOL!!!

I have just written my Senators and representative about Presdient Obama's health plan! Okay...I am going to be on my soap box tonight!!!! OKAY>>>>>>>> here goes::::::::: Please don't tell me we will change from the greatest health care in the world to Socialized government controlled health care. I do understand that people need health care insurance that cannot afford it. I also believe that we have what I call "gianormous" waste of our tax dollars..the stimulus package, which has stimulated nothing.... but calls for more spending! When I even think that we are spending our tax dollars on abortions, and international abortions I just become ill...you all know I am a lover of children, and believe there is only ONE that has the right to take LIFE, and that is our LORD and SAVIOR, JESUS CHRIST. When I hear that our government would deny our elderly health care and counsel them for a 5 years to prepare for death, and take their own lives.... I am shocked! I know people say we cannot pay for everyone, but if we can waste all of this money then we can take care of our elderly during the worst time of their lives. I love the elderly...my Grandmother, Mammy Garrett is the only woman I ever wanted to be like!!!

So...join me in my prayer the class of 1969...Dear LORD, I ask in YOUR NAME JESUS that for any government offical under YOU LORD.. that is against YOU when making decisions that YOU, LORD change their heart...humble them and bring them to their knees to make decisions in the best interest of the American people. May they have peace knowing they have done what YOU LORD would have them to do!!!

Gerry Sue....thank you sweetie for your kind words! GOD has given me a happy heart...but also made me to stand strong for HIM, HIS people, freeedommmmm!!!!!!! YIPPPPPEEE Jolie was so funny today wiping her baby's face saying she was sick and throwing up. Her imagination...wow!!! She loves my stories...thinking of writing some children's books! I did puppet shows for my children when they were in elementary school! Sometimes my imagination runs wild!!!!

Haha...Dee you are so funny...you can come to the ranch anytime!!!! Old Barneo is hiding from me...he has 14 points this year! I will see him though because we are putting a "hide out" in the high fence so I can watch him eat all you can eat buffet feeder!!!!!

Well...I guess we didn't have any high kickers for the kicking contest? I am the winner.........!!!!!!LOL

Kathy...oh no...the falling is catching!!! Poor Jolie fell flat on her face today!!! I hope you are okay! My shoulders are still popping!!! Are you coming...can't wait to see you!!!! Good to hear from you!!!!!

The reunion team...thank you so much for everything you are doing....GOD Bless you all.

Love to all..sweet dreams!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
JOY!! <3

Hey all!!This is an invitation to all who may visit this wonderful site and enjoy all the conversations and various opinions we share and may even disagree on. Our memories "Blast from the Past". Time is getting short and I believe this is gonna be one of the greatest reunions ever!! We are celebrating one of the greatest time of our lives. Landing on the moon! Woodstock and of course our jouney from Higb School into the great beyond where each of us sailed. I really hope to see all my old friends and even new ones that I met here and got to know better. At age 58, I see the glass not half full but still enough in it that I want to take advantage of every sip left. So if you are having hesitation in making up your mind remember we aint getting younger and for some of us we may not be here in another decade. Look at the list of ones who are not able to show. Remember the movie Fandango......Well lets do it. I want to see you all and I think I am speaking for a whole bunch of us....SEE YOU IN SEPTEMBER!!!

yeppers Joy!! Has anyone entertained the thought of a beach party after the game at Surfside Beach? I know some of my fellow classmates and frinds have said they wanted to go there and have an ole time bonfire (if we can) and mingle at the beach BYOB if you drink or just bring the fireworks you have left over and or hot dogs and marshmellows.

Jd Barnett:

I know, this post breaks my earlier resolution not to discuss controversial topics on this forum, but sometimes I'm powerless at the hands of my compulsions.

Regarding Joy's earlier comment that the US has the best health care in the world; that really isn't the case. The United States does not have the best health care system in the world. We just have the most expensive one.

The US, among industrialized countries, has the highest mortality rates in infants, children, and young adults. We lag Japan, France, Switzerland, Netherlands, Sweden, Canada, Norway, Germany, and Finland, among others, in life expectancy.

Compared to other countries getting and paying for health care in the US is a nightmare of red tape, approvals, inconsistencies, and just plain hassle.

A 2008 survey by the Commonwealth Fund, a private research foundation, states: “Compared with five other nations—Australia, Canada, Germany, New Zealand, the United Kingdom—the U.S. health care system ranks last or next-to-last on five dimensions of a high performance health system: quality, access, efficiency, equity, and healthy lives.

People in the US spend about twice as much per person as other industrialized countries on health care but don't get the results that such spending should bring.

I think we can do much better than our present system of health care.
