Dear Jim,
Jim...compared to socialized medicine we have the best health care. I agree completely with you that it is very expensive. I do believe there should be limits on charges. That is one thing the government could do is limit the charges for health care. I have had first hand experience with the health care in the US with my husband having a brain tumor. He would have died in less than 3 months had he not had excellent health care at MD Anderson and the University of Texas Health and Science Center. My husband lived for 3 years which I believe was GOD'S plan for him. Facing death was not easy for him, and the health care extended his life, and prepared him for leaving me and his boys. Randy made his own choices for care, and chose the best doctors for opinions and care. He felt secure in his fight for life, and I am happy he did what he needed to do! Randy and I have friends in England, and they are not pleased with socialized government controlled health care. They come to the US for doctors appointments every year because the quality of health care is so poor! Also, I am a child advocate of children with cancer. Pediatric cancer is the #1 killer of children. Our government was only giving a very small percentage of money for research until many child advocates signed a petition demanding help for these kids. Thousands of children are dying from cancer, and our government did nothing to help them until a Father that lost his son started this petition. What I am saying is government control is not the answer. Just look at the drugs the FDA is allowing without proper testing...many people are dying from the drugs, and having severe side effects. There will come a day that you might need to go to the doctor Jim, but you are turned down because you are past the age limit, and are going to die anyway. How horrible to think that you would worry and feel that you had no options...this group of government officials decided that you weren't young enough to keep alive! I certainly don't have all the answers, but I do know that more government control is not the answer, and I know for sure I don't want someone telling me that I can't choose my doctor.... and they are sending me to counseling to prepare me for death or suicide so they don't have to spend money on me!!! Hey...the Chinese honor their elderly the US could learn from them!! Everyone has the right to health care, and if we stop wasting our tax dollars, and put the bucks where it is needed...instead of wasting and lining the pockets of government officials, etc. With socialized government they will make the decisions for your life, and you will have no recourse! Also, I would like to add one more thing why I don't believe socialized government is the answer to health...look at our food chain...government control did nothing to keep the rats out of the peanuts, and many people were very ill from salmonella poisoning. Our food chain is full of pesticides, antibotics, hormones...who is protecting our health...certainly not the government!!! So, when the big government bureaucracy doesn't take care of our food chain...I don't think they will take care of our health. I want to make my own choices!!! FReeeeeeeeeedommmmmm!!!

I respect your opinion...and it is from my own experiences that I have formed my opinions. GOD giveth life, and only HE has the right to take it!!!!
Thank you Jim...love listening to different opinions!!!

JOY!!! :0)

Marian Sahr (Bullard)

I have been sitting here since 2 this morning working on Fidelity Tool Report (state requirement) and thought I would stop a minute and read the latest on the messsge forum (it's so addictive). I totally broke out laughing. You are all too much. I needed that laugh. Joe, you are right. I hate to lose the new friendships I have been blessed to have in the last few months, so let's do it. The beach party sounds fun. Several people have emailed me to asked what we can do after the Saturday night event and I'm still thinking. It is going to be so hard to say goodbye to the ones that will be leaving but then what a blessing to see everyone again. I really would like to see us to do something for our 60th b'day party. (Gosh that sounds old)

Game is usually over by 10 pm so you'll have plenty of party time. Of course, everybody could cut out of the game early and head to the beach.

Joy -
I have 38 years worth of toe nail clippings. Can you use them?

Jim -
Like I said before - If you can't talk about controversial subjects among friends, with whom can you?

Bring it on everybody – I believe everyone is entitled to their own stupid opinions.

Tried to post a comment on the healthcare issue to chime in with Barnett, but it got kicked back.
Let's see if this flies...

yep, guess this spam filter recognizes and blocks sarcasm, but doesn't mind lots of exclamation points!!!!!!!!!!!

Jd Barnett:

The United States has the best non-"socialist" health care system in the world, well ahead of Togo, Slovenia, and Guatemala.

08/06/09 03:27 PM #1702

Joe Ballard

my question is why do Tylenol Tabs at a hospital cost 7 to 10 dollars a piece

08/06/09 03:44 PM #1703

Bruce Kibodeaux

The answer lies in the defacto subsidies insurers receive as a result of policies of non-regulation espoused by those who brand any attempt at regulation as socialism, but then collude in a system that allows lobbyists to influence legislation much more than public well-being.
Simple, isn't it?
It's so much easier to call names rather than research, investigate, and unravel the mess created by decades of "me first" political gaming of the system.

Maria Rodriguez contacted me through Classmates.com. She's in our annual but her classmates profile indicates she graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Los Angeles (guess she moved prior to graduation). I sent her a message about the reunion site...maybe she'll join us. I'll let you know if I hear from her again.

Jd Barnett:

OK, I'm for sure not going to the "time out" corner unless Joy and Bruce go first.

Where's Mr. Shaw now that we really need him?

08/06/09 04:11 PM #1706

Bruce Kibodeaux

Corner, heck -- We left the room a long time ago.

Joy,
Can you do a full body chemical peel? I think we could scrape enough old stuff from my carcus to make me a twin.

08/06/09 06:33 PM #1708

Carrol Reneau (Jeffers)

Mmmm, is that something we WANT to do, Glenn? Wait . . . I've rethought that . . . would it be a young twin or same age twin? You know, starting over with what we know now and didn't know then . . .

08/06/09 09:08 PM #1709

Glenn Mallory**

Carrol,
I think the same age twin would be easier to train. I think where we are in life is really great.
Under our breath we have probably all mumbled to our selves boy if I had a do over I would?????
In reality I think the BHS Class of 69 all came from great stock and we are fortunate to have many many life experiances be it good or bad that we can share with young and old and hopefully make a lasting impression and difference upon others. From what I have read on this forum we all have great life stories to be thankful for.
Always look forward to tomorrow!
