Judy, the Brazosport area hasn't changed to the point that you wouldn't be able to find Brazosport High School. Stay on 288 the whole way, and once you pass by Dow Chemical Company it will pretty much look like it used to. The road has a lane or two more than when we were in high school, but you just keep going straight until you get to good old Hopper Field. Not to worry...it isn't Houston!!!

Omg...there was this restaurant near Daddy's drugstore that attracted rats!!! They would break into Dad's storeroom and feast on coffee, and Coke syrup!!! Also, one of my past acquaintances told me some rats attacked her Mother in the bed while sleeping! I hate rats...snakes...bugs.....is that what you put in your stew??!!! LOL!!!!!!!!!

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT:

To all those attending the Gumbo/Chili/Roadkill Cook-off, you read Glenn Mallory's(A.K.A.'The Posse') not-so-veiled threat regarding spiked gumbo post #1750. It would appear that at a minimum, Marvin Zindler would issue citations for at least one of the entries. I would suggest that it would be SAFE to taste the entries of the following:
MARGARET DUBOIS AMMONS,
BETTY BECK,
TONY BARNARD,
JOY GARRETT CHESSHER,
JANEY WILLIAMS MOEBIUS,
JERRI MILLS,
NELL TEAS,
SANDRA ENGLISH BYERS,
WINONA HEBERT SPINKS,
LYNN RASBERRY BROOKS
and JANET SKAGGS.

A word to the wise.

Joy Garrett (Chessher)

Thank you Carrol...you are so right...beware of the "varmit stews!"

Margaret Dubois (Ammons)

Carrol-
I noticed that you left Dee out of the list-he's the one who started all this with his boasts of the best gumbo anywhere. Couldn't let that one rest. I know we have some dang good cooks from our class.

YES.

Mike Strickland

Carrol,

You are trying to influence the cook off by castigating certain participants, who all happen to be male. This is un-American.

And Marvin is dead.

08/11/09 10:55 AM #1768

Jd Barnett:

Women castigating guys is as American as apple pie.

Dee Allen

DEE, look: C - a - R - R - o - l
One C. One a. TWO r's. One o. One l.
It has always been spelled like that.
You can do it, I know you can.
Thank you.

Margaret -

Carol wouldn't deliberately omit me. It was an oversight, I’m sure. Regardless, stay away from her sample of my world famous frappe of squid, oysters, and bananas.

Joy - This is not a facial mixture.

Margaret Dubois (Ammons)

Yuck! I am looking forward to trying your entry-which remain a secret. Your fried tree rat sounds good. I once ate fried rabbit-we had a pet rabbit named Blackie and he turned mean in his old age and would bite my moms
ankles when she was haning clothes on the line. We didn't know it was Blackie until after we ate it, but it tasted just like chicken.

08/11/09 11:08 AM #1771

Jd Barnett:

I had Christmas Rabbit in Austria one year...it's considered a delicacy. And it was delicious.

08/11/09 11:09 AM #1772

Jd Barnett:

And how did Barnard make it onto Carrol's safe list? Is there some quid pro quo going on?

08/11/09 11:17 AM #1773

Margaret Dubois (Ammons)

I guess Tony hasn't given her a reason to doubt him.

08/11/09 11:44 AM #1774

Carrol Reneau (Jeffers)

Otra vez - no hablo ingles.

08/11/09 12:36 PM #1775

Jd Barnett:

Tony probably sticks to the big three of chili meats (beef, pork, and possum) and doesn't get into the exotic stuff like furry tail rats.

08/11/09 01:25 PM #1776

Margaret Dubois (Ammons)

Keep it safe-I do believe Tony is going to try his hand at Chicken and Sausage Gumbo, along with a few others
including me. I am also going to cook something else which I am keeping a secret.

Marian Sahr (Bullard)

OK Joy and Joe here we go.....how many are planning on attending the beach party after the game? Let us know ASAP please. I think we should bring food/drinks according to how many people we are bringing. Joy, I will make some dip and bring some chips. Chairs is a great idea. I have several for the "out of town" people but if we can get an head count, I will know how many to bring. Has anyone found out if we can have a fire? It doesn't have to be a "gigantic" one but more like a camp fire. How do you feel about shutting it down around 1 or 2 a.m.? I can pick-up the paper plates and napkins. I have NO musical talent but I am sure some of you can play an instrument. I can bring a boom box if needed. So, come on classmates, contact Joy, Joe or myself and let us know if you will be attending. I hope to see everyone there. Joy, thanks again for letting us use your beach house!

Margaret Dubois (Ammons)

No bonfires at Surfside-we would have to move it to the county beach or Quintana for that. Maybe if we asked everyone that logs on here to RSVP for the beach fun.?

08/11/09 03:24 PM #1779

Jd Barnett:

Margaret:

Something secret? Nutria etouffe, maybe?

08/11/09 03:38 PM #1780

Carrol Reneau (Jeffers)

Just a thought - the English language having returned temporarily - before the beach location changes. Campfires MAY be legal if we get rain, bonfires are not going to be allowed at any beach. The beach house that Joy is renting - where there is air conditioning and indoor plumbing - is at Surfside (and I think a couple of other groups have houses there, too). Has the party after the game become about a BONFIRE? Do you know HOW HOT IT IS HERE THE FIRST WEEK OF SEPTEMBER? And Saturday we've got a 7:00 a.m. golf game, a 10:00 Bunco game,1:00 p.m. Roadkill cook-off and 7:00 dinner/dance. And Sunday at 10:30 a sermon and BHS tour. PACE yourselves, people.

ahora no hablo ingles.

Margaret Dubois (Ammons)

Jim-
Something like that. Ya wanna change your mind and come to see what I've got going? All I can promise is that it will be tasty.

Carrol-
I nay be too old to party upon party upon party. After all, as you have reminded us frequently-we are 58 yrs old! Besides which, I may need to be home cooking for the cookoff, unless burned hotdogs and marshmallow would entice Judge Huff.

08/11/09 04:00 PM #1782

Joe Ballard

OK Marian! I can bring about 6 or 8 chairs myself. Irby plays guitar Glenn Pool too. I thought of making some cd's from Rhapsody if people had some suggrstions for favorites. I have hundreds of rock old and new cds so if others have favorites that would work. I think you covered it really well. I agree if all who are interested could send emails to us including Joy, and let us know if they are coming,it will help us know how much is needed in food, chairs etc. Feel free to bring any contributions to the party. Bud, Heinies, wine, whatever BYOB or tea totalers sodas etc.

Margaret the RSVP is a really good idea and we can do that by e-mail

08/11/09 04:17 PM #1783

Dee Allen

give Strickland a little bucket and a little shovel and he can build a sand castle.
*********************************************************
Will he be wearing a Speedo?

08/11/09 04:46 PM #1784

Jd Barnett:

At least a bonfire would help keep the mosquitos away if it isn't breezy enough.

08/11/09 05:22 PM #1785

Jd Barnett:

Margaret, some of us are 58 years old. Others of us are one year old, fifty eight times.
