Shelley Gray (McCoy)

I will be working the Angleton-Brazoswood game at our new stadium, so I'll miss joining you for the game, but I would very much like to join you afterwards, so please keep me posted on where you're gathering Friday night.

As a cancer survivor, I want to tell Michael that he has the right attitude -- get your life back to normal as soon as you can, and keep that wonderfully positive attitude.

I want to clear something up beforehand. While Anne Vickers said she and Michael Poehl could compare scars, I don't think you'd want me to join in this event. Remember -- I had breast cancer! Smile.

All,
For any ladies traveling from out of town, I live in Clear Lake, near Hobby Airport. I have a modest 4 bedroom home with plenty of space to sleep. First come first serve. I plan to go to dinner on Thursday night, the game and dinner on Friday night, Joy's beach house as soon as I know when and where, and the Sunday meeting, if I am still able. I have a car that seats 5 and we can caravan if we need to. Just email me and we can make arrangements.

It has been some time since I invited a gentleman to stay with me, but if you ladies are bringing your husbsnds, gentlemen are welcome.

Hallelujah!! Just heard my final report on the growth within my parotid gland which was removed on Tuesday – it was an Oncocytoma !! This is fantastic news as it means there is 100 % no cancer present, and the growth was 100 % removed with clean margins.

God is great, prayer is powerful, and I am a blessed man to have so many good friends and family members who gave me wonderful support over this ordeal.

Thanks for being there for me when I needed you.

Some info on Oncocytoma - Oncocytoma accounts for less than 1% of all salivary gland neoplasms. There is no gender predilection. Oncocytic metaplasia is the transformation of ductal and acinar epithelium into oncocyte. Usually this does not occur until after 50 years of age. The proliferation of oncocytes then progresses with age and explains why oncocytoma usually do not present until the sixth to eighth decade of life. Oncocytoma can be differentiated from oncocytic hyperplasia in that oncocytomas are usually better circumscribed and organized. Usually, oncobytoma presents as a painless mass and is usually seen in the parotid gland. Histologically it is an encapsulated tumor with a trabecular or cord like or organoid pattern that is separated by thin fibro-connective stroma. Predominantly, you see these large polyhedral cells with abundant granular eosinophilic cytoplasms. The granular eosinophilic cytoplasm is usually secondary to mitochondrial hyperplasia; however, a clear cell variant may also be seen. Again, the treatment for oncocytoma is complete surgical excision. Radiotherapy is not indicated because oncocytes are thought to be radioresistant. Recurrence is rare.

Now it is time to focus on getting the stitches out, and healed up. I had some fluid build-up, and my head is now wrapped with an Ace bandage to get the skin to seal against the wound. If all goes well on this front stitches are supposed to come out tomorrow – Tuesday – 8/25. YEAH !

Looking forward to seeing everyone at THE reunion. Now I need to conentrate on what would be slinky and look good with a fresh facial scar.

Michael that is awesome news!!! you are truely a blessed man.. I found out some good news this weekend about the possibility of testicle cancer and was given a good report there too. It sure made me think about my future and my family's future too. I feel like every day is more important to let God know how much I love him and the blessings he has poured out on me and my family. Michael see you at the reunion Hmmmm Scarface was that not a movie about a mafia gangster. Love you Brother and glad to hear the Good News!!!

Linda Fluker (Carr)

I second that Hallelujah for both of you, Joe and Michael. And a hardy yeeha. I'm so glad for your outcomes. And looking forward to a good report on your healing, Micheal.

Also, I agree whole-heartedly with Marian about Maria's Forever Treasures. It is a must see with lots of BLING. But mostly it has Maria. As many of you know she is very kind, enthusiastic and welcoming. I had a chance to go by there today (located at 217 Parking Way, downtown LJ)having taken a half day off work. Maria greeted me enthusiastically as she did every customer who entered, quite a few for a Monday afternoon. It's a high traffic store. Maria's personal service helps match her customers (me included) with just the right take-home delights. I had a fun time and left with several items, happy thoughts and a wishlist for next payday. Y'all check it out.

Hi Linda...It's great seeing you here. I am on a business trip in Clear Lake (for the whole week) but I will be at the reunion meeting tomorrow night and drive back to the horrible hotel. If you can make the meeting, come on by. You will have a great time and everyone meets you with a big hug. Take care, Marian

Michael--so relieved to hear your fantastic report! You had a lot of good karma and prayers going your way.

Judy Teague (Crenshaw)

Michael, I also celebrate your great news. But I say nothing goes better with a big, manly scar than black leather. Maybe the air condition will be blowing full force!

Joe, great news, buddy.

Everytime I get on this site I feel a great big hug from friends and from God.

Can't wait to collect on the real ones,(hugs, that is.)

I just wanted to add that I had a peculiar thing happen today. I hope it doesn't happen at the reunion.

We had to have our picture taken today at school. So I went down, sat up straight, tilted my chin to keep my glasses from making me look like Little Orphan Annie, and smiled a sweet but not too broad smile. Click and then the girl showed me the instant picture. That is when the peculiar thing happened. Instead of me, there was this middle-aged woman on the screen. I think my picture must have gotten deleted in the process. I will try again when we have retakes.

I hope the cameras do not cut up at the reunion. I do want some great pictures of such great memories we will make. Please test your cameras before you come.

Margaret Dubois (Ammons)

Good one, Judy-I don't recognize the woman in my pictures either. The mirror tells me I'm still young, thin and girlish. Wonder who is showing up in the pictures?

Alice Day (Smith)

We had a GREAT turnout for the last reunion meeting tonight. Thanks to all of you who have pitched in with the final things to be done. I really believe this is going to be a memorable reunion that we will talk about for years....and then it will be up to us to have a 45 year reunion. Aaaawwww, I'm feeling younger by the day.

I love all of you guys and gals. What a joy it's been to hang out with you. After this reunion is over, PLEASE give me other excuses to come to LJ/Freeport/Clute!!! I love my hometown community, and YOU.

Praising God for the many victories we've heard from your medical breakthroughs. I will tell you. Our class is experiencing a supernatural touch of God with healings. I have learned and teach about prayer, "Unity enables, and disunity disables." I believe God is pleased with our UNITED EFFORT TO STAND IN PRAYER for our friends.

Yippppppeeee Michael!!!! Once again this is the best news I have heard this week...month!!
Well, you want be alone with stitches, but mine is certainly not as bad! I will have surgery on my ear lobe Monday...due to hair brush hanging on earring!!! Ouchie!!! So...one ear will have stitches, but I am not going to complain because things can always be worse!! Maybe I will wear a bright pink bandaid to match my outfit!!!! I could glue some rhinestones...make it pretty!!! I wonder do they put in colored stitches? I will ask them on Monday!!! I know they have colored rubber bands for braces!!!!
So, So, So, so happy to hear your diagnosis Michael, but I want you to know that I had total confidence that the LORD was taking care of you! I just never thought it was cancer.... When Randy had his first brain operation it was a terrible diagnosis of glioblastoma, and he was given only 3 months to live, but GOD changed the tumor to Oligodendriglioma, and Randy lived 3 more years...from 3 months to 3 years! GOD gave us precious time together, and even as difficult this changed mine and Randy's life forever! I praise OUR LORD...for healing you!!!! Yipppppppppeeeeeee, and now you will come to the reunion and have so much fun!!!!Wahooooooooo'!!!!! High kick...High kick!!! I can do this at the reunion to celebrate!!!! LOL!!!!!!!

Well...change of plan on the beach house! I cannot stay through Tuesday because my nephew is coming from China, another surgery on the other ear, and have business that I have to be there for!!! But....I have rented two rooms at Cherotel, 925 Highway 332! We are doing facials and hanging out! What are the best restaurants in Lake Jackson?!!!!

Karen King....what I remember is that you were a whiz kid on sewing, and poor me sewed the zipper to the front of the dress instead of the back!!! You are without a doubt one of the sweetest girls I have ever known!!! Thank you so much for helping me...I really needed all the help I could get back then!!! In college I decided that I could sew...made four blouses just alike in different colors!!! Now, I am a woman that faces my fears, and never gives up!!! GOD has given me strength and great courage to see me through this life...this race!!! hahaha I am trying to keep up!!!! Love ya girl! Can't wait to see you!

Alice...I am sure everyone welcomes you to come see them! You are welcome anytime to Austin, and if you ever need a place to stay...I have plenty of room, and would consider it a treat!!!! GOD Bless you for your love, encouragement, and great service!!!

GOD bless...love to all,
JOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :0)

Joy Garrett (Chessher)

Hey..Julie knows all the good restaurants! I want to go by my old hang outs...is Rolands still there...the Dairy Queen, and also the ALAMO?!!!!

08/26/09 09:25 PM #1956

Janice Mangum (Colwell)

Joy, I am afraid you are going to be very disappointed....Rolands, the Dairy Queen and the Alamo are all long gone!! We have some other great places, though. There are the Dairy Bar, The Local in downtown Lake Jackson, El Toro in Clute (still sooo good!), On the River in Freeport, just to name a few. B'port locals, name a few more.
*********************************************************
The best are The Local and El Toro but also, Cafe Annice in downtown LJ. There is a new one at Surfside that is great, Pirate's Alley, it is 2 story right on the beach - turn off of Blue Water Highway at Red Snapper Inn. Parking lot is awkward to get out of so be careful where you park. Of course, there are all of the chains, too, Chili's, Carino's, Ryans, Red Lobster, etc.

Steve Stein (Class of '70) posted the following on his Facebook page this morning...

"ATTENTION: All former Brazosport students: It is 3:30 AM, and on a whim, I checked email this morning - and opened one that is very emotional. Mr. Magee has a very aggressive form of bladder cancer - this the Dr's opinion without lab results. ... Please keep Mr. Magee and his entire family in your prayers. [can't post the entire email here - space limitation. Again, please say a prayer for Mr. Magee -"

I wasn't in Choir, but I know how much he means to BHS so keep him and his family in your prayers.
