Hey Joy,
Remember when we were in PE you would always put baby powder in your hair to fluff it up.. I will always remember..

Gary,
Hope you get a good report.

I love to talk football. And Pat I agree with you regarding the way Jerry Jones dishonored Coach Landry. Our family was a REAL Cowboy fan until Jones bought the team. From that time, it has been hard to overlook the poor attitude of Jones.

Earl Campbell was not walking for many years. Serious football injuries. Within the last year he had a surgery that has him on a walker now. This is good news for him.

I love the Manning "group" too. Archie Manning, the dad, Eli, and Peyton have all been speakers for Get Motivated. I haven't met them, but last year Eddie and I had dinner with some of the speakers, and I was able to visit with Joe Montana. Huuuuuuuge guy, and rather shy in many ways. Terry Bradshaw, on the other hand, is always loud and talkative with anyone in the backstage who will talk with him. LOL

Some of my favorites are: Tony Dorsett, Drew Pearson, Fran Tarkington, Earl (of course), Terry Bradshaw, Bob Lilly and Bob Hayes. And many more from all the different teams. Does anyone remember "Robert ?" with the Oilers who was a running back and had thighs as big as a man's waist? He would drag 4-8 players down the field with him. What was his last name?

Alice,

I think Roberts last name is Newhouse, I think he also played at UofH.

Glenn, oh yes, you are right. Robert Newhouse. What a dynamic guy to watch. He was one of my favorites.

ALICE.....THE "ROBERT" YOU ARE DESCRIBING SOUNDS LIKE ROBERT NEWHOUSE... HE PLAYED FOR THE DALLAS COWBOYS. HE WAS A SMALLER VERSION OF EARL CAMPBELL.
HE WAS BORN IN LONGVIEW AND PLAYED FOR U OF H.
HE SCORED THE ONLY TOUCHDOWN IN THE EXHIBITION GAME WHERE THE NATION'S TOP COLLEGE SENIORS PLAYED AGAINST THE DALLAS COWBOYS

I KNOW..MORE INFORMATION THAN YOU NEEDED BUT I WAS A FAN AND HE WAS BORN IN 1950 SO HE'S ONE OF "US"

ENJOYING THE REUNION PICTURES......WISH I HAD COME, BUT "STUFF" HAPPENS.

ENJOYED THE MEMORIAL TRIBUTE......

A LOT OF US ARE DEALING WITH FAMILY ILLNESS OR LOSING LOVED ONES, LATELY.
ITS ALWAYS HARD LOSING SOMEONE EVEN WHEN WE KNOW THAT THEIR FUTURE IS SECURE AND THEY ARE IN A BETTER PLACE THAN WE ARE.

GOD BLESSED ME WITH A POEM ABOUT 10 YEARS AGO DURING A
"ROUGH PATCH" IN MY LIFE.....THE GIST OF IT WAS:

THAT IT'S NOT WHEN WE ARE ON THE MOUNTAINTOP AND ARE IN A HIGH GOOD TIME IN OUR LIFE THAT GODS AIDS US MOST....

"IN THE VALLEY HE RESTORETH MY SOUL"

GOD ALWAYS MINISTERS TO US TO LIFT US OUT OF OUR VALLEYS AND HE IS TRULY WITH US "ALWAYS".....ESPECIALLY IN OUR TIMES OF GREAT NEED.

====================================================

John, you are right. It was Robert Newhouse. Loved, loved, watching this guy play football...so did my daddy. Your poem is very touching, and so true. God bless you friend. Alice

If we are gonna talk football! My favorites other than the old Cowboy regime was the Steelers in the 70's Terry Bradshaw and Lynn Swain what a combo! The steel curtain! Mean Joe Green and what about one of the greatest runners ever, Franco Harris! I can not remember the year but I went out New Years Eve and saw "ZZ TOP at Panther Stadium and had a blast with a Dallas friend of mine and the next day hung over, I went to my friends apartment and his brother had just dropped of some tickets he had for us to go and see Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburg Steelers play at Cotton Bowl Super Bowl XIII (not sure of year or which bowl, hazy). It was the year that a man in a snowman outfit caught fire on the opposite side of the stadiun from us....Dallas lost but anyway we had a blast that weekend and we were long hair cowboy freaks in those days and we wore our staw cowboy hats with both events ticket stubs in the brims for a week at least....Ohh the memories are so great!

If you are talking about a huge running bk for the Oilers during the Earl Campbell days, it must have been Tim Wilson. He was the one in there blocking for the amazing Earl. Of course having receivers like Billy "Whiteshoes" Johnson, Mike Renfro, and a tight end like Mike Barber didn't hurt. I heard that Barber actually became a minister after he left football. And having Robert "DR. Doom" Brazile on defense didn't hurt either. I had heard about Campbell's health problems and saw pictures of him in a walker at a golf tournament held in his honor a couple of yrs ago in Austin. So sad to see such a great, yet humble man have to suffer because of all the hits he took in yrs past. The price he paid seems so high.
I wonder how Texas wound up with 2 of the worst owners in history. First the news hound Bud Adams who took my beloved Oilers to Tenn. Then Jones taking over the Cowboys. I guess Dallas can be greatful he didn't move them to Okla. At least the Texans seem to have some decent people behind them, so maybe eventually they'll be real contenders.

This is my latest football story...I went to meet a fitness trainer for lunch. He's impressed with my product and wanted to meet. When I arrived he had brought with him a medical doctor (also interested in my product) AND football pro, Tony Parrish! What a great lunch date(s) for a girl! All of them now use and recommend my products!! I swear networking is SO fun!

Judy Teague (Crenshaw)

I love all the football talk, especially the old Cowboys. Yes, I remember Robert Newhouse. He was the only one I ever heard of thighs bigger than his waist.

When we were in Dallas, my oldest son saw Tony Dorsett (2nd year) at a gas station with his dad. He started asking me how he could be black. Tony could hardly walk but went out the next Sunday and ran for over 100yds.

Thanks Pat for being another female football fan!

Now Joy, I will be praying for your son and his wife. God will hear their prayers. I have a story for you. My best friend here in Georgia was in the same situation. After 3 failed invetro tries the dr. said don't try again. She went home and cried and prayed, "Lord, if I am going to have any kids, you are going to have to give them to me, cause I'm not making any." Don't you just love honest prayers.

Without knowing her prayer, I had been trying to help a girl who was unwed, pregnant, and had a 4 year old son. I got our class to give a baby shower, we helped with Christmas gifts, etc. Then her power was turned off and I let her come live with me for 3 weeks while we got her power back on. By that time she had the baby but had given her 4 yr. old back to the father. My friend met me at the mall with the girl and the baby. She went her way and I went mine. Several months later I went to a prayer meeting at our church and learned that the girl had abandoned the baby to our pastor. She had disappeared and the couple the pastor had taking care of the baby wanted to give it up because their own children were getting attached. I spoke up and asked if the baby was eligible for adoption. They said yes because she had not only abandoned her but there had been a history of neglect and drug use. I called my pastor and told him of my friend. I called my friend and told her about the situation. Two months later after many legalities, she had legal custody of the baby. After waiting two years for the mother to come reclaim her baby, she legally adopted him. The mother has never returned and the baby is now 19 years old.

Because of the relationship the pastor had with my friend and her husband through this situation, several years later when a girl wanted to have an abortion, my pastor told her of a couple who would take the baby if she would have it. So the baby lived and my friend got her second child at 3 days old from the hospital. I had the privilege of going with her to bring the baby home.

About two years later, someone called my pastor about a baby who needed to be adopted because her mother had been shot in the head and was paralyzed and the father was in jail. My friend finally got her little girl. She now has a beautiful family of three children. The little girl is in beauty pageants and is drop dead gorgeous. They are all beautiful children and so blessed. My friend used to tell people in the stores when they complimented her beautiful baby, "I know! God gave them to us. We couldn't have made anything that cute!" She felt sooo blessed.

I hope this is encouraging. God will answer but sometimes it is in a different way than we think.

Reporting directly from the front line trenches on the home front: good news and bad news, first the bad, Brazosport lost for the first time this season to Santa Fe (Hitchcock) after a hard fought game for a 7 to 10 loss. But I think we can consider this only a minor set back and our boys and we will be ready for the next game against Manvel High School at Alvin next Friday.
The homecoming bonfire was Thursday night, with lots of BHS school sprit being displayed, and a little 'reliving' my high school days on my part. BHS will be having its anual "Red Tide" community
pep rally on October 9. All are welcome and it's pretty much like the pep rallies we attended back in the last century just with free food thrown in -- looking forward to seeing some of you former Exporters there. GO BIG RED

Thanks Steve for the local football report. I bet it is fun attending the old alma mater gatherings along with your daughters involvement. Cleburne suffered its first defeat last night to Alvarado 33-7 as my daughter Rachel reports. Friday Night Football what a Texas tradition!!!

Kitty Allison (Hilton)

I love all the stories shared here...what fun! Thanks Steve for the update...what about the homecoming queen? Was this the homecoming game?

OMGosh, Judy, what a story!! I'd like to speak with you personally. I've helped a number of friends (and their friends) conceive or carry a pregnancy to term. Certainly no promises, but every time it works I'm blown away and so grateful.

Steve Landers

Hi Joe, odd for me to on this thing in the daytime but it is the weekend and I'm definitely attempting to recover from 'homecoming'. It is great to have kids at Brazosport, unfortunately this is the last. For the past ten years and three kids in school activities the one thing I can testify to is BHS spirit. As I have roamed around at football, volleyball, and tennis games then cheerleader competitions and band involvement, the one constant that stands out is Brasosport community spirit, enthusiasm, and involvement. I have seen ball games where we as the visiting team dwarfed the hometeam crowd and had to sit on their side of the field because Brazosport filled the visitors stands. I have been to tennis matches where the sponsor school expected fifteen to twenty spectators total and Brazosport showed up with fifty. I definitely take great pride in that. And even this football season which by all indicators was going to be a mediocre season at best, the entusiastic crowds continue, and I continue to be amazed.

Kitty I was trying to be polite but since you asked (big mistake). Yes I can now lay claim to royalty in the family. Morgan my seventeen year old was homecoming queen last night so next time you see me, you will have to endure hours of bragging and endless pictures and video I will show no mercy. And eventhough it may not show I am very proud of my baby (be careful if you ask about the older two). She was one of the cheerleaders you saw at the Reunion football game. And to quote your profile Kitty, she made us look good, a bit of humbling wisdom you pointed out to me. And I promise to calm down (in a few decades) next time we talk.

Kitty, thanks for asking Steve about homecoming queen. Since he didn't volunteer it this a.m. . . . I GRACIOUSLY didn't ask (yeah, I know, I surprise myself when I think before I speak, too). CONGRATULATIONS, STEVE & QUEEN!

OK Carol I deserve it, but I will pass your good wishes along to the queen. If she grants me audience.

Sorry to have appeared ungracious...I just thought I must have mixed up the homecoming dates! Congrats to the whole fam damily! Steve, I think it's normal to brag on your kids IF they earn it!

Judy, I should have directed that last message to Joy...sorry another mix up for me! I really love your story though. I'll talk with Joy about getting pregnant and staying pregnant! LOL!

*******************************************************
Kitty, NEVER in your life have you had an ungracious moment! Not even as a child. Some are born with it . . . I was not and cannot seem to learn it.

Joy Garrett (Chessher)

WOW!!! Judy what a wonderful story! I do believe that this is a protection for my daughter-in-law. She has not had the best health for several years. She was attacked at the mall by a drug addict, and her car was stolen. It was a blessing if you can believe I would say that! She found out that she had an undetermined birth defect, and when knocked on the back of her head she was diagnosed, and had brain surgery...then later diagnosed with Chron's disease. She is taking a product called GI Pro and Ambrostose from Mannatech which is food for the cells to build the immune system, and it is working!!! Praise GOD she is now healthy, but I have always been concerned that she may have problems with her health if she became pregnant. Maybe my feelings come from my very protective nature for people I love! We don't always understand GOD'S plan, but I do trust HIM to do the very best for my son, Randy, and his wife Katy! They are a match made in Heaven! They are both so loving, and I know that one day GOD will bless them!!! They feel very blessed to have a wonderful, loving relationship! My son Randy is a sweetheart, and when he see an elderly woman he will help them get into their car...put their packages in the car! I love that he treats everyone with love and respect!! One day he heard that one of my friends was ill, and he took her a dozen roses! He is a great big 6'5" teddy bear!!!! Thank you so much Judy for your story...very encouraging, and GOD does use people to encourage us to have faith...and know we have a GOD that only wants what is best for us!!! You are so wonderful Judy, and it is so awesome you care so much for people!!!
Maybe you will hear of another baby that needs a loving home, because I do feel that GOD will bless them with children! Also...I am a devoted Grandmother, and I need some more kids to love!!!!

Kitty...I must hear that story of how to get pregnant, and stay that way!!! Not that I had any trouble in that department!!! Hahahahahah...4 sons!!! Did you hear about the 21 pound newborn on Yahoo...???!!!! Hey, I am now finished with my business as of today!!! Yippppppee! So, let's talk and get my order done!! Wow I heard about this treatment yesterday for sagging skin...it is called the Titan...in 30 minutes this lady reported she didn't even recognize this woman that had the treatment!! How fun your job sounds... I can't wait to try the products!!! I am not sure about Katy...going to nursing school! Yes, Kitty you were born a princess, but when you become a Mom you become a Queen!!! They call me Queenie and Mama JOY!!!!

Carrol...I am confused on what you were saying, but I want you to know we all think you are great! If GOD made us all the same...how boring! GOD made you strong, and the image of HIMSELF...HIS desire is for us all to become more like HIM! You know so we will all fit in...in the most loving place with HIM in Heaven!!!! I remember one time when Randy was sick asking HIM to take everything HE saw in me that was not desirable and pleasing to HIM. Well, I am still a work in progress...We are all works in progress...some it is harder growing up, and some it is easier...but we will get there, and live forever in Fairy tale Land...Heaven... Carrol...I heard a story the other day that someone had been to HEAVEN on a near death experience, and they heard all kinds of music playing. They said that GOD pipes in music from earth when HE hears his children singing!!! My son Chuck has a beautiful voice, and sings in the shower!!! I wonder if Randy, Daddy, Mom, Mammy and Papa, Nana and Papa can hear him?!!! Hope they don't hear my singing....hahahahaha!!!

Have ya'll ever heard anyone talk as much as me?!!! hahahaha...born to talk!!! OMG...so is Jolie...talks more than me!!!!

I hope you all are doing great!!! I am feeling so goooooooddddddddd! I have lost 34 pounds!!! Heh heh...only 40 more to go!!!! I will get there, and not give up!!!
Thank you all so much for the prayers! You are the best!!!

GOD bless you all...
Love,
JOY!!!!!!!!!!!!! :0)
