After high school, I was off to UNCG with Bernadette, Mayme Jo, Betty, Connie, Beth & Trish. I’ll leave it to your imagination as to how much trouble this group caused, but I did graduate with an associate degree in business.
I came home and worked for Duke Power Co, where I met Charles Holland (North Meck class of ’58). We were married and soon after off to NC State for him to finish with a degree in mechanical engineering. We returned to Charlotte for him to work at Celanese and started a family. His job led us to Lincolnton, NC, where we have been for the last 40 years. Our two girls graduated from NC State and married fellas from the area who are also Wolfpackers. Our oldest daughter recently went back to work at NC State…and loves every minute. She and husband Ron have an 8-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter. Our youngest daughter is the queen volunteer in Clayton, NC. She and husband Rudy have 9-year-old triplets: a boy and two girls. Charles retired from Pharr Yarns of McAdenville, NC, as senior vice president and president of the high performance products group. He retired 4 years ago and is the happiest retired person! I fell into a career as a real estate broker 31 years ago and became rather good at matching people and houses. This happened when I signed up for a course in cake decorating. When I went to take the class, I found it was canceled, so my buddies and I took the real estate class instead. It has been good to me, and I enjoyed meeting the new people who came to town. I do plan to retire soon as Charles and I have a motor home that our grandchildren nicknamed “The Chuckwagon .” We have traveled with family through the West in 2007 and New England in 2008, as well as several other smaller trips. I want to do more traveling before time slips up on us. I cannot wait to see everyone!
Can you believe it has been 50 years?
